Iโ€™ve never seen a more misunderstood animal more than ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐‡๐จ๐ซ๐ฌ๐ž ๐“๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐ˆ๐ฌ ๐‡๐ฎ๐ซ๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ .

Iโ€™ve been trying to tell you that I am in pain, but you donโ€™t seem to listen.

I show you that Iโ€™m in pain by not being willing to work but you just call me ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฎ๐›๐›๐จ๐ซ๐ง or ๐ฅ๐š๐ณ๐ฒ. Instead of helping me, you just ๐ค๐ข๐œ๐ค ๐ก๐š๐ซ๐๐ž๐ซ.

I show you that Iโ€™m in pain by rearing when you try to ride me, but you enjoy showing people you can sit to a rear. Instead of getting off and listening, you just say

I show you that Iโ€™m in pain by throwing my head in the air, but you just say itโ€™s one of ๐ฆ๐ฒ ๐ฏ๐ข๐œ๐ž๐ฌ. Instead of helping me, you just buy ๐ฆ๐จ๐ซ๐ž ๐ ๐š๐๐ ๐ž๐ญ๐ฌ so that I can no longer ๐ญ๐ก๐ซ๐จ๐ฐ ๐ฆ๐ฒ ๐ก๐ž๐š๐ ๐ข๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐š๐ข๐ซ.

I show you that Iโ€™m in pain by bolting, but you just get scared and decide Iโ€™m not the one for you. You sell me and I still remain as ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐‡๐จ๐ซ๐ฌ๐ž ๐“๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐ˆ๐ฌ ๐‡๐ฎ๐ซ๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ .

Itโ€™s our responsibility as animal owners to do right by them, horses canโ€™t speak, they communicate through their actions. So we need to listen!

9/10 times โ€œnegative behaviourโ€ is caused my pain, the rest is learnt behaviour. Either way I always check for pain first.

๐“๐ก๐ž ๐‡๐จ๐ซ๐ฌ๐ž ๐“๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐ˆ๐ฌ ๐‡๐ฎ๐ซ๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ , deserves the world. The amount of tolerance, loyalty, patience and trust the hurting horse has, is something I can only dream of having.

Good afternoon all โ˜€๏ธ
I wanted to share a quick clip with you of a pony Iโ€™ve been working with. This was the first session I tried to load him after some difficulties loading previously. After focusing on groundwork patterns in the previous week, I was able to calmly encourage loading in less than five minutes!
No force, no anger just patience and understanding between the two of us.
This just goes to show how important and fundamental groundwork is and how it translates to so many other aspects!

If you want to make you and your horses life easier and less stressful please donโ€™t hesitate to get in touch!โ€ฆ. Currently taking bookings for April for all things groundwork and ridden ๐Ÿด

Horses donโ€™t understand human accomplishments. They would rather be eating grass in a safe paddock with their friends.

Happy Friday everyone !
Hereโ€™s some food for thought which every equestrian needs to hear !!! It does not matter who you are, THIS is not only crucial to understand for performance purposes, but for our horses welfare ๐ŸคŽ

If anyone, anywhere tells you to pull the horses head down (or uses leverage and gadgets to do so) they have no knowledge of healthy horse biomechanics or of correct training.
The horse's nose must always lead, with the poll highest and the gullet open. The base of the ears mustn't be lower than the withers. The jaw must be mobile. If the horse cannot chew and swallow, the hindlegs cannot operate correctly. If the hindlegs cannot operate correctly, the horse will not be able to jump, or stay off the forehand, or stay sound.
"Donโ€™t be obsessed with the head and neck, learn to feel what the hindquarters are doing." ~ Glenys Shandley

This!!

also want to add, whilst it's so important to let your horse mature, it's just as important to appropriately condition them. There is no point leaving your horse till 4/5 years of age if you're going to have them broken in and jumping a course of jumps in 6 weeks. I almost think its worse to do this! We can still start the fundamental groundwork patterns from a really young age and teach our horses how to move their bodies whilst making it fun and enjoyable for them!

If you're looking to learn more on groundwork and how to prep your youngster properly for future work don't hesitate to be in touch!
