#TGIF! May all your dreams come true this weekend. 😺
Need a purr break this #tbt? So does Miss Winnie - she frequently shows appreciation for her mom and her comfy indoor life with a good kneading session!
Happy #Easter from all the cats and humans at Second Chance Cats! Please keep kitties away from plastic grass, chocolate, and lillies today. But an empty basket will make some fine feline entertainment! 🐰
Is there anything more peaceful than the sight and sound of a purring, kneading cat? How about one who we weren't sure would survive just a year ago! Winnie has been through hell but was a brave girl who fought for her happily fur-ever after. Now she has a mom, a feline brother, and all the windows and soft blankets a girl could dream about! #tbt
Socks needs help!
SOCKS NEEDS HELP! We were contacted today about a severely ill cat found in Coventry. The Good Samaritan who reached out to us has tried to find help for weeks, but has been turned down by other organizations due to the high demand for placement. While we have no funds like a 501c3 nonprofit would, we could not see this poor cat continue to suffer and die when his life could be saved.
Socks was humanely trapped tonight and is staying with our volunteer and cat angel, Heather. Tomorrow she will take him to a pre-scheduled appointment meant for her own cat at Wickford Veterinary Clinic. Any donations to his care are greatly appreciated!! They can be called into the vet directly on Thursday at (401) 295-9739.
Our friends at Ten Lives Cat Rescue are inundated with requests right now, but have reached out to find a foster placement for Socks. With your help, we could give him a fighting chance to restore his health and find his way to that foster, and eventually, forever home.
We thank you for always supporting cats like Socks, who truly depend on this community of life-savers!
Feeling the love this February? So is Miss Winnie! Here's our special girl bonding with her adopted brother, Pisces. We think it's safe to say that she's in heaven between her feline friend and loving new mom! #tbt
Look who is peeking in on #tbt! Not too long ago, Winnie was critically ill and received emergency 24/7 care to save her life. Her many supporters donated and shared - and now she is a new kitty!
Winnie was recently spayed and is ready for her forever home. She will continue to need monitoring for asthma but is otherwise young and healthy. Winnie can be shy but has warmed up quickly to her foster mom and should be fine with other gentle cats (but no active young children, please). For more information about Winnie, please message us or email [email protected].
Bear hasn't been adopted yet - or even moved to adoptable status as of now - but he's crashing our #tbt feature today! If you remember how he looked when we first posted him, you might not recognize him today. Medical care, pain relief, some nutritious food and a whole lot of love & patience have transformed him. Here's proof of what a community of cat lovers can do when we all come together!
For our Bear fans: the video quality isn't wonderful and he has his back turned...but this might be one of our favorite videos ever. This little guy has been through hell, surviving outside, having his tail ripped off and enduring two amputation/repair surgeries. He isn't thrilled with his accommodations and we were starting to wonder if he might be feral after all....until this happened.
Bear, we don't know how you came to live outside or exactly what trauma you've endured, but we do know that you never have to go through it again. Things will be better soon, one gentle pet at a time. #TheyAllMatter
UPDATE as of 2:30pm: Bear's procedure has been funded - we can't thank you all enough for your amazing generosity! 😻
Bear needs your donations! This poor boy was trapped by our volunteer, Heather, while she was assisting another community cat over the weekend. Heather realized that Bear was in obvious distress with a rear injury that is difficult to look at, so we have posted a picture only in the comments below.
We don’t know for sure what happened to this defenseless kitty, but he appears to somehow have had his tail ripped off. He still had blood on his back end when trapped. He spent the remainder of the weekend comfortably inside, out of the heat, and taking pain medication, his fortunes already changing. With a shortage of emergency veterinary services these days, we were lucky to find an available appointment for Bear with Dr. Ader yesterday.
Bear will be staying overnight at Animal Care Services in Warwick as he undergoes testing and will possibly need surgery to remove any tail fragments that could cause dangerous infection and more pain. His treatment costs will likely be significant, but this little guy has spent enough time being neglected and suffering alone! We can’t help him by ourselves, but we are hopeful that our community of cat lovers will be able to make a difference for Bear.
If you can help defray the cost for Heather and Bear, please call the vet directly to donate to Bear (under the name Heather Millette) at 401-738-6695. On behalf of Bear, we thank you for sharing and donating! Bear will finally be able to live the way he deserves: without pain or fear and with a path to a forever home, thanks to your generosity and love of community cats.
Our formerly feral Cooper, aka Coop, is enjoying the finer things of indoor life these days! From street cat to catnip expert, we'd say our foster fail is pretty happy with how things turned out for him. #tbt
Jenga needs your donations! This sweet young girl was trapped by our volunteer, Heather, while in obvious distress. Jenga only weighed 6 lbs. and was getting picked on by bigger colony cats. She also was suffering from such a severe eye infection that, sadly, the eye had to be removed.
Jenga has remained in Heather’s care during a difficult summer for cat rescue – almost every rescue is full, and poor Jenga couldn’t find an open spot. As she adjusted to life as an inside cat, Jenga slowly began to see how humans can be trusted. She has become a quietly social sweetheart who seeks attention (and treats)!
It was her sudden unwillingness to eat certain foods that recently caught Heather’s attention. As if Jenga hasn’t endured enough, it turns out she has stomatitis, an immune condition that causes her body to view her teeth as a threat. The condition is incredibly painful and can have a dangerous effect on a cat’s food consumption. The only cure is to have every tooth removed by a trained veterinarian.
Covering the full cost of the tooth extraction would be difficult, and worse yet, Heather would be unable to pay for the medical care for the other street cats in her care, or for any future cats that find themselves with us while waiting for rescue placement. That would at best cause unnecessary pain and delay in treatment for those cats, and at worse, could prove fatal for a cat in desperate need.
We know times are tough, but we can’t say no to a petite kitty like Jenga who has been neglected in life and now has a chance to flourish. Please consider a donation in any amount to her dental extraction! The surgery will be at Wickford Veterinary Specialists, who have generously provided a rescue discount, but for such an involved surgery, the estimated cost will still be about $1,700.00.
If you could help defray the cost for Heather and Jenga, please call the vet directly to donate to Jenga (under the name Heather Millette) at 401-295-9739. On behalf o
Wishing a wonderful #FathersDay to all dads of human and furry kids out there!
