It’s that time of year when our chickens start to slow production. We are doing our best to keep our farm fresh eggs stocked and to also make sure our chickens are happy, stay safe and get the rest they need! We have been selling out of our eggs pretty much daily at Sorano's Greenhouses and we thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for all the support! 💕We are so glad you enjoy our delicious eggs as much as we do! We will continue to provide as many eggs that our happy hens produce daily 🐔🍳🥚

Things are growing nicely in the greenhouse 🍅🥒🫑🥗🌿🌸

This year we did a lot of Companion planting-
Companion planting is when two plants are grown close together for the benefit of one or both of those plants. That could be as simple as growing nectar rich flowers among crops to attract pollinators or two vegetables grown side by side to confuse or repel pests.

Basil can be an effective natural deterrent for flying pests and it also said to improve the flavor of the tomatoes if planted nearby! We have regular and opal basil growing in our greenhouse with the tomatoes 🍅

Well it’s that time of year where the chickens are resting from all the egg laying they do during the warmer months. We’ve decided to give them the break they deserve and allow them to rest during the next few winter months.
We want to thank all of our customers for supporting our farm and we can’t wait to provide you fresh eggs again in the spring! ‼️PLEASE READ ‼️
Many of you know us personally, but for those who don’t, thank you for supporting our farm and following our page! 🥰 The DeFoes finally moved into the house they were building and now are settling down and able to focus on bringing you all the delicious things the farm has been producing for our own families!

Many of you have had our farm fresh chicken eggs but I bet you didn’t know that we have been harvesting and enjoying our own pasture raised chicken and turkeys for the past few years!

We are ready to begin to offer our pastured raised chickens and turkeys to our customers🤩Unfortunately, we have most of this batches harvest already reserved but there are a few spots still available and we figured now would be a great time to openly offer to our customers!
Please message us if you are interested in a turkey or chicken- please see details below:

Chickens: $4/lb and will be ready last week of October. We will only be offering whole roaster chickens for this harvest. We estimate them to be 4-5lbs per bird. We will be offering in spring of 2022 through fall of 2022

Turkeys: $4/lb and will be ready a week to a few days before thanksgiving (fresh or frozen, your choice). We estimate them to be between 14-19lbs - last year we had one 22+lbs and average was 18lbs

We know the demand will be greater than what we have, but this will help us to understand the need and make sure to prepare for the spring with enough to satisfy all- we want to KNOW our customers and provide the best and healthiest food we can - thank you to our loyal customers and we hope you continue to support our farm and that we can continue to supply you with food that is ethically raised and harvested.

The DeFoes took a quick trip to Polyface Farm in Virginia this weekend and learned from the great Joel Salatin himself. We were able to ask him questions and shake his hand 🤯 when we asked him what the one piece of advice he had for small farms like ours, his reply could be summarized as; minimize your grocery bill and feed yourself from the land you own. Live humbly, live on as little means as possible to get out of all debts and give thanks to God for all you have been blessed with. ❤️

We have fresh pasture raised duck eggs hitting the fridge at Sorano's Greenhouses Tuesday morning 🤩🦆! They are great for baking and eating just as you would a chicken egg! They have a creamier, richer taste with a bigger yolk! Come try them out! Sold by the half dozen. Grab one pack to try them out...or more if you know you’re a fan of duck eggs! 🍳🍳

We just dropped off a delivery of fresh eggs to Sorano's Greenhouses!! One lucky carton has a green egg! No peeking until after picking!! Whoever grabs the carton with the green egg gets a dozen free on us 😃 good luck 💚💚💚 we will let you know when the green egg has been found!!

Planted a bunch of perennial plants from Sorano's Greenhouses. They are absolutely beautiful 😍😍 and will attract beneficial bees, butterflies and birds to our garden creating a diverse ecosystem for pest control and pollination! 3 raised boxes down, 1 to go!
