📢 Calling all students and researchers in veterinary andrology! 📚

The 14th 4A Conference offers a unique opportunity for researchers, professors, and students in andrology across different species. With a primary audience of veterinary medicine graduates, our event stands out for its wide range of programs and topics, focusing on providing a constant update on the latest advances in reproductive biology.

Participating in 4A means becoming part of an international scientific cooperation network. By bringing renowned foreign researchers to Brazil, we offer a unique opportunity to establish valuable collaborations and open doors for new research and development opportunities. Additionally, graduate students have the chance to interact with recognized experts in their fields of interest, expanding their academic and professional horizons.

We will be sharing summaries of ISER XIII abstracts, and what better than to start with the research of this year's Michelle LeBlanc Award winner, Dr Roisin Griffin? The full abstract is available here: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0737080623003933

🏇🧬 Age-related DNA damage in stallions: an ongoing investigation 🐴🔬 Foals sired by younger stallions not only achieve higher racing speeds but also secure more race wins compared to their counterparts sired by older stallions. The key focus of the investigation was the potential link between stallion age and s***m DNA damage. Weekly semen samples from 46 Thoroughbred stallions were analyzed, with results showing that older stallions exhibited significantly higher DNA strand breaks, possibly due to poor chromatin packaging. Surprisingly, regardless of age, positive correlations were found between oxidized DNA adducts and fertility, suggesting the impact of higher rates of oxidative phosphorylation by more fertile s***m. While s***m DNA damage increases with age, no significant influence on fertility was observed. Future research aims to explore potential effects on the next generation's genome and identify vulnerable genomic loci.
