It’s no secret that our shelters have been over capacity with dogs for more than a year now. But we recently reached a new record high for the number of puppies in care as well, with more than 200 across our campuses!
The unprecedented number of puppies, which also coincides with the annual spike of kittens arriving in our care, highlights the critical importance of spaying and neutering. These procedures are the most effective ways to prevent unplanned litters and reduce the number of homeless animals entering already full shelters. To help more pet owners in San Diego County access affordable spay and neuter services, we offer resources on our website. Visit sdhumane.org/spay to learn more.
