K9 Advocacy Manitoba is a front line rescue that does amazing work within the community. It is heartbreaking to see an intake freeze as many rely on them for support!

We have assisted them with intaking a few of their dogs (the most recent being Boo!) in hopes of a better life and opportunity here in Ontario!
The sad reality is, without them being able to intake, many of the communities will not get the help they need and these animals will die. If their vet bill can be paid down, they will be able to resume intake.

Please donate if you can!

Every dollar can make a difference in helping the lives of so many! 🐾

🚨Intake Freeze Effective Immediately🚨

These are the words we hate to say in rescue.

In the past 56 days alone, we’ve spent over $88,000 on vet care. Every dollar has gone toward saving lives—treating injuries, fighting infections, and giving countless animals a chance at the future they deserve. But the reality is, we simply can’t keep up.

Effective immediately, we are on an intake freeze. Until we can catch up financially, we cannot take in any more animals. This is heartbreaking, but necessary.

We work tirelessly to raise money—through donations, fundraising events, and community support—but the need is greater than ever. If you can help, please consider making a donation. Every dollar truly makes a difference.

K9 Advocacy Manitoba is a charitable organization and donations receive a tax receipt. All donations made until February 28th can be claimed on your 2024 tax return!

Casper | Male | 2 Years Old | Neutered | American Bulldog | 70lbs | Microchipped | Good with people/most dogs | $600 | Foster Location: Guelph

Casper was found as a stray very malnourished and was taken in by London Animal Care Centre. A few days went by and the shelter received a call about their missing dog “Casper” after he was being watched by someone else while they were on vacation. A date and time was sent to pick Casper up but no one showed up. Calls were made with no contact. Casper sat on the adoption floor for a couple weeks with little interested in him for adoption. This is when the awesome shelter posted him for transfer into a foster based rescue in hopes for a different audience. We of course welcomed him with open arms!

Casper is good with most dogs but did not get along when introduced to an intact male. Casper has not been tested with cats. He is crate trained and house trained and walks well on leash.

If you’re looking for a cuddle bug, look no further. Casper is the type of dog that will follow you from room to room and does prefer to curl up right next to you - or on you if he can!

He loves playing with toys although he will destroy some of them. He is non-destructive in the house and is fine being left alone for longer periods of time. He also is quiet and rarely ever barks. He is very food motivated making training a breeze.

Casper does have an overall calm demeanour and is currently living in a condo but can be a little rowdy when in play mode.

Casper would excel in a home with no other oets and a household with older children. Casper is a very loyal companion and an absolute sweetheart.

FLIGHT COMPANION FOUND, THANK YOU!

[Flight Companion Needed: Toronto - Winnipeg]

If anyone is traveling Toronto to Winnipeg anytime soon on either Westjet or Air Canada, please let us know!

Boo (now Sadie!) was treated for kidney worms in Winnipeg with our friends K9 Advocacy and has since been adopted with a wonderful family here in Ontario!

Unfortunately, their is still some kidney worms lingering within her. This means that she will require another surgery to treat this. Treatment in Winnipeg vs Toronto is substantially less money.

Their is no additional cost to you. We take care of it all and rescues will be there on both ends to meet you! We cover everything and you travel as normal with a little extra time at check in.

If anyone is travelling to Manitoba, please let us know!

Meet Casper!

Casper joined our rescue yesterday from London Animal Care Centre! This boy’s full story is unknown but here is what we do know.

Casper was found as a stray, very malnourished with scarring on his face/ears. A few weeks after he was found, the shelter received a call stating that they came home from vacation to find their dog was missing. The shelter was able to find out that his real name was Casper and he supposedly lived with a small child. They set up a date and time for pick up but no one showed up. Call after call with no luck, he was placed up for adoption with no concrete interested prospects. This is when we decided to jump in and give Casper the opportunity for a foster based setting!

When we say he is an easy dog, he really is. Laid back, good with other dogs, walks well on leash, good in the car and honestly just wants love.

We will take some time to get to know this boy and he will be placed up for adoption in the upcoming week(s).

We got you Casper, you are safe now! 🐾

Boo | ~ 11 months | Lab x | Female | Spayed | 40lbs | Microchipped | Brindle | Good with dogs, people and cats | $600 | Foster location in Guelph

Boo was found as a stray roaming in Manitoba. Our rescue partners;K9 Advocates picked her up after she was found to be severely malnourished. She has spent the last few months in Manitoba in the care of her lovely foster home with little to no interest for adoption. Boo is now looking for her forever home here in Ontario!

Boo is a very sweet and lovable girl. She is a velcro dog with tall and lanky legs that follows her foster mom from room to room. She is currently living with another dog in the household and does great! Boo has met a cat at the vets and she also did fine. We believe she would be fine in a household with a cat. This girl loves to prance and play with her toys. Boo also has good recall!

Boo is house trained and crate trained and is fine being left alone for a few hours free roam. Boo currently knows sit, paw, lie down, spin and “in your bed”. This girl is highly food motivated making training a breeze!

This sweetheart is a little shy meeting new people but if you have food or treats she will be your best friend in no time! Boo would likely be okay with older dog savvy children

Boo would excel in just about any home with the right patience.

Boo is currently being fostered in Guelph

If you or anyone you know is interested in adopting this sweet and playful girl, please apply at: https://form.jotform.com/202885772614261

[Welcome to Ontario Boo!]

Yesturday or shall we say very very early this morning, we welcomed Boo into our care. She made the flight all the way from Manitoba after found roaming and very very skinny a few months ago. This girl is on the smaller side and is honestly such a sweetheart! She is on the shy side and will need to gain some confidence (and some weight). Overall this girl is a playful velcro dog!

Thank you so much to Gloria who has been making the trek from Vancouver to Manitoba to Toronto and in between using up her points to help give rescue dogs a second chance. Honestly a true angel! she also sponsored both Boo and another dog who also got his freedom ride with another rescue!

Thank you to K9 Advocacy and Boo’s foster Sandy for rescuing and taking such great care of her.

Boo is now available for adoption 🐾

🆘 LOST MATTIE'S PLACE DOG - BELWOOD, ONTARIO 🆘

18 months ago, Nana was adopted from Mattie's Place

Christmas day the family was away in Belwood, Ontario (north/west) and let Nana out in the early morning hours under nightfall still, for a quick p*e. From there, I'm not sure of details, but the end result was Nana was lost.

The adopters failed to inform me of her being lost, even though it's in the adoption contract (and we even spoke over the holidays via email on another topic). All the details of her being lost and location have now been shared with me by the Adopters.

In their words, the search to date: "we did a gridded search with eight people of their property and all the nearby forests and neighbouring properties over multiple days. We had multiple people walking each county line by foot for a radius of about 5 kms from their property looking for and following any canine tracks leaving the road, and we drove each county line multiple times 15 kms in each direction, all starting within minutes of ###XX losing sight of her."

Nana has been lost 12 days today. The group search by the adopters ended day 5.

I'm on my way to Belwood, to where she was lost to try and get a sense of the surroundings from Nana's perspective. I have a funeral to attend Wednesday afternoon, but I have booked 1 week off work and I'll be up north/west to try and find Nana or at least recover her body as of Wednesday afternoon.

I don't think people understand the heart of an ethical Rescuer. There is no mountain I won't climb to find her. I give up my life for each and every Mattie's Place dog and that loyalty doesn't end with adoption. My dedication to a Mattie's Place dog runs so deep and I will fight for them & their well-being always. I don't know what the normal expectation is ... maybe I should shrug it off and resolve that she is dead, but I can't and I won't and I'm just not going to give up that easily.

She was last seen wearing her pink collar with tags on December 25. She is senior. She is on medication. She is mobile, but senior dog mobile.

There is still a chance she is alive. Odds are against us this late in the situation, but there is a chance and I'm going to run with that.

Boo was found as a stray roaming in Manitoba. Our rescue partners K9 Advocacy Manitoba picked her up after she was found to be severely malnourished. She has spent the last few months in Manitoba in the care of her lovely foster home with little to no interest for adoption. Boo will be arriving into our care on Monday! Here is what her current foster has to say:

Boo is a very sweet and lovable girl. She is a velcro dog with tall and lanky legs that follows her foster mom from room to room. She is currently living with her dog foster sister and does enjoy her company. She is good with other dogs but has not met any cats. This girl loves to prance and play with her toys.

Boo is house trained and seems fine in her crate but right now she is only left alone for short periods of time as someone is usually home currently. Boo currently knows sit, paw, and lie down. This girl is highly food motivated making training a breeze!

This sweetheart is a little shy meeting new people particularly with men. Boo would likely be okay with older children Once she gets to know you, she will become your best friend!

Boo would do best in a home with a family who is home more often then not. With that being said, she would excel in just about any home with the right patience.

Boo will be fostered in Guelph

[That’s a wrap for 2024!]

Four amazing dogs found their forever home through Our Northern Promise Animal Rescue in 2024! Being a small rescue, we intake and help out when we can.

Kohen (now Maverick)
Liberty (now Louie)
Daphne
Roscoe

If you are interested in fostering in 2025, please let us know. We can likely match a dog to just about any home. Please be advised that the times of quick adoptions has changed and we are back to very slow adoptions. Fosters should expect to hold fosters for potentially months at a time.

This year, ONP will also be focusing on posting long term shelter and rescue animals with other facilities/agencies in hopes that more animals can be adopted!

Thank you to all of our volunteers and followers.

Goodbye 2024, and hello 2025!

[After waiting 2 years in Shelter, Roscoe has found his people!]

On November 17th, Our Northern Promise welcomed Roscoe into our care. Two years ago, Roscoe’s owner was incarcerated and he ended up in the care of the mother of his previous owner. The mother quickly learned that taking on a larger dog was just too much. He was then surrendered to a shelter. The shelter performed surgery on this guy as his eyelashes were curling inward. From there, this guy waited and waited and waited for a family to call his very own again. After two years, we pulled him.

Myself, the founder of Our Northern Promise quickly realized that Roscoe was beyond amazing (Hence why we never posted him!) He is good with dogs, cats and people, and is the biggest cuddle bug around! Attached at the hip, I couldn’t let him go. I officially adopted him prior to Christmas.

Welcome to the family Roscoe. 🐾

[Happy Tails Daphne!]

Daphne was officially adopted over the weekend and we are so happy for her! We had a lot of amazing applicants reach out to us regarding this girl. She was very popular within the rescue and with everyone who met her. Her amazing personality touched the hearts of many.

Daphne definitely scored with these two and we are beyond excited for her happily ever after! 🐾

Daphne is excelling in her basic training! She sure is one smart pup. Daphne is currently up for adoption and is still looking for her forever home. If you or anyone you know would be interesting in adopting her, we would love to hear from you! https://form.jotform.com/202885772614261

Daphne | 1 Year Old | Bully x | Female | 50lbs | Spayed | Microchipped | Good with Kids, Cats and Dogs | $600

Daphne found herself in a kill shelter where she was pulled by our lovely rescue partners. Once we saw her bio, we knew we had to pull her and welcome her within our rescue. Next up: her forever home!

Daphne is a happy, submissive girl. She is currently being fostered with both cats and dogs and does great with them. A little scared of the cats but does not chase or engage with them. She is also both crate and house trained. Although she is house trained, Daphne does not give cues to indicate that she needs to go outside so a regular routine would be beneficial. Daphne would also benefit from basic training as she does still tend to jump up on people. Although Daphne is fairly quiet in nature she does bark sometimes if she sees people or dogs outside.

This girl is the perfect adventure buddy with medium energy. She loves going for walks, is perfect riding in a canoe, great in the car, and really just enjoys being where her family is. She walks fairly good on leash but will pull if she sees a squirrel or to sniff out spots.

Daphne is a gentle girl with a very sweet disposition to her. Any family would be lucky to have her! Daphne is looking for a home where she is not only a dog but a valuable member of the family! 🐾

Daphne is currently being fostered in Mississauga.

[Happy Life Louie!]

It is great pleasure to announce that Liberty (now Louie) was adopted this week and is already thriving in her new home. Massive thank you to everyone who played a part in this girls story 🐾

Liberty | 11 Weeks Old | 11lbs | Female | Lab x | Microchipped | Good with Kids, Cats and Dogs | $600

Liberty was supposedly part of an accidental litter that couldn’t find a home for her and opted for euthanasia. A kind family stepped in and took her for the night. Unable to keep her, they posted her free to a good home. As we didn’t want her to go to just anyone, we just had to jump in!

Liberty is your typical happy go lucky puppy who loves playing and exploring with all. She is very food motivated and is already excelling in her basic obedience, and recall training. Liberty doesn’t mind spending time in her crate and will go in her crate on her own. This girl is currently sleeping mostly throughout the night in her crate and will bark or whine if she needs to go out. Liberty does love to cuddle and will follow you from room to room. She has been exposed to both cats and dogs and has done great!

We were told she is a Presa Canario however she will not be that big. I’m thinking a backyard breeder whom was looking to make money and mislabelled her. I predict a smaller lab mix looking puppy. As Liberty is still a puppy she will still need consistent training and it will be mandatory to have her spayed once she is old enough. Her spay is included in her adoption fee.

Foster Location: Toronto

If you are looking to add Liberty to your family, please fill out the application below:
