Savvy G Rabbitry We strive to breed high, show quality Mini Rex and New Zealands showing around Michigan

13/08/2024

**UPCOMING**

We are making the decision within our rabbitry to get out of cavies as a whole. We have a fairly small program so there will be a post soon with all of the cavies we have looking for new homes.

(all americans and 1 teddy)

Went through our barn and we have quite some Mini Rex looking for new 🏡

All Jrs. (varying in ages) and are fully pedigreed
*some show quality, select few have some faults that may land them on a cull truck*

• Black Jr. Doe (SGSR8)
DOB: 4/5/24
She’s a really pretty doe with nice type all around, would be keeping her if i didn’t have her brother.

• Lilac Jr. Doe (SGOB6)
DOB: 5/10/24
she isn’t the worst, peaks a little early. has wrong colored eyes though.

• S O L D Blue Jr. Doe (SGOB4)
DOB: 5/10/24
I honestly really like how’s she is growing and think she would be a good addition to someone’s program.

• S O L D Lynx Jr. Doe (SGPS6)
DOB: 6/3/24
Shes still quite little, as with the rest of her litter since it was a big litter. but i think she’s growing nicely, little big in the shoulders but a decent hindquarter for her age.

• Chocolate Jr. Doe (SGPS2)
DOB: 6/3/24
I honestly like her for her age she just needs to grow to fill herself out better.

• Chocolate Jr. Buck (SGPS1)
DOB: 6/3/24
He was fighting for this picture but i think he’s nice all things considered. a tad bigger shoulders than his sister i would say.

Located in Muskegon, Mi. but willing to work with transport options!

- S O L D -
SGDF2
Broken Black NZ Doe
Won Reserve Champion Market Rabbit
Does only have half a butterfly but other than that she is a solid doe and would be a great start to a program

SGDF3
Broken Black NZ Buck
He has a lot of good qualities, biggest issue is no butterfly

-S O L D -
SGBA8
Broken Blue NZ Doe
I love this doe honestly but I love her siblings more. She is out of great lines!

More pictures upon request!

What a time at the muskegon county fair for us! It was our last year showing and we finally we able to bring some homegrown stock to show and they did so well!

Billie (HC109) our Jr. Black Doe took 1st and BOB Mini Rex and Gucci (SGSR1) our homegrown Jr. Black Buck took 2nd and BOSB as well. (would have took 1st and BOB over Billie if he didn’t HATE fair so much after staying all week)

Basil (SGDF2) also our homegrown Broken Black New Zealand got 1st in the single fryer market class and took Reserve Champion Market Rabbit!

Many other awards were giving to our other rabbits we brought with but wanted to share the highlights from some of our homegrowns!

As we are growing out and w**ding through litters and our barn, we have some Jr. & Sr. Mini Rex looking for new barns.

-Proven Sr. Chocolate Buck
- Family Prides HHVJ1
Gotten two succesfull litters out of him and he seems to help produce nice kits. more herd buck quality in my opinion as he is a bit of a larger buck, but he has hit show tables. Carries a lot of lilac which we are trying to w**d out of the barn.

-Jr. Lilac doe
-SavvyGs Pearl DOB: 5/10
I dont think shes that bad just not the greatest. has great lines but she also has wrong colored eyes therefore is more pet quality. she has bigger shoulders and doesnt have as much fullness in her hindquarter as preffered.

-Jr. Blue doe DOB: 5/10
-SavvyGs Jade
PET QUALITY. shes long but peaks nice. theres a chanceee she could be a brood doe as well or grow into herself?

*we also have a possible Lynx buck as well*

PM us for more info. located in Muskegon, Mi.

Today’s show in Fowlerville went really well! We showed 4 Mini Rex and 1 New Zealand in open, and while it was just a single show it was definitely worth the drive. Here are the results:

Open Mini Rex (Bryan Shirk)

- Does
• SGSR8 Jr Black (4th place)
• HC109 Jr Black (6th place)
• SGMJ2 Jr Lynx (1st BOV *she was the only one*)

-Buck
•SGSR1 Jr Black (1st, BOSV, BOSG) *1 leg*

We had some nice comments on basically all mini rex we brought, some just weren’t measuring up today as to what they normally can do on tables which happens. The lynx doe we brought just barely made weight recently *at 6 weeks old mind you* and for her being a baby she got really nice comments and is starting to fill out nice, i can’t wait to see what comes of her. Our buck really suprised us on the table, getting his first leg at 10 weeks old! he’s growing really nicely and was considered even for BOB which we have never done before let alone with a homegrown of ours. Really happy with how they all did honestly!

Open New Zealand (Steve Parker)

-Buck
• ACE Sr. Broken Blue (BOV, BOSB)

Ace always does really well on the table to be quite honest. He’s a solid, really pretty buck who has matured so nicely. It’s always tight competition with him when it comes to other brokens on the table so we were very pleased with how he did today. The judges really like him. Unfortunately though, this show there wasn’t a huge class of New Zealand’s and not enough exhibitors in order for this to count as what would have been his 2nd leg, which was a bummer but he will continue to show to hopefully give him that chance again 🙂

Last weekend we attended the Corunna show with our litters of black jr mini rex and a couple from our black new zealand litter as well. It was a smaller show but overall we got great comments that were consistent throughout the show from both judges we had (both of which we haven’t had judging mini rex before). We simply wanted to share the results from our keepers of the litter, while they aren’t taking 1st or BOVs quite yet we are still very happy with how they placed and feel as though we are on the right track finally.

Show A (Tammy Loomis-Benolkin)
- SavvyGs Gucci- 2nd
- SavvyGs Chanel- 3rd

Show B (Tom Berger)
- SavvyGs Chanel- 2nd

The main comments within these two were that they are babies and need some time to grow out of their junior coats. but overall each had really nice type just again babies but the fact they placed where they did even with the junior coats they do have i’m pretty impressed.

The New Zealand’s brought were pre juniors so we didn’t get any real placing on them, just nice comments about how they are growing and who would be best for our potential roasters this year.

We decided to keep 2 from this litter to watch grow out, one being SavvyGs Gucci our buck from the litter to see how he grows as he has some amazing potential. The second being Chanel who is going to stay as she grows and continue hitting the show table as much as possible before producing anything for us. Not to mention we also came home with ANOTHER HCR rabbit, a really nice Jr. black doe that my jr does went up against and Chanel came in right behind her so we knew this was the right call to bring her home. We call her Billie and she is also going to hit the show tables as much as possible before producing for us as well.

We’ve got some big plans over here and we aren’t finished yet!! This show went well in our opinion regardless not taking any titles or anything, we finally know we are doing something right 🙂 We have Mini Rex Does still looking for new 🏡

Well we are BOOMING with babies right now, With 3 mini rex litters (one more on the way) and now 3 new zealand litters. And while they are still young we see some good promise in the 2 litters old enough to pose lol. Feeling really good about these 6 week old mini rex and wanted to share just two from this amazing litter from HCR’s Jean Grey x HCR’s Knight. Don’t worry though, we have quite the varieties coming in other litters 😉

Well we have quite the update, after some bumps in the road we have our first litters this year and they are growing so fast!

We have our first litter of New Zealand’s from our blue doe Beans who had 5 healthy kits and we are so excited about these guys! a full black litter that carries blue so that’s super awesome and we can’t wait to see how they grow. they are almost a month old so weaning is in the near future.

And while we had more Mini Rex litters planned for this first go around, some things didn’t go to plan but our chocolate doe Saturn gave us a beautiful, healthy litter of 5 as well, all being blacks but carriers for chocolate so we are very excited about this litter as well. She always produces some really nice babies so very intrigued to see what this pairing is like with our new blacks we have entered into our Mini Rex program as well 🙂

There is so so so much more to come from us this year so just wait, but we are thrilled to share the litters we currently have right now

[[UPDATE: Truffle has found a home to live out the rest of her grumpy days]]

**DISCLAIMER: THIS RABBIT IS CAGE AGGRESSIVE AND IS NOT SHOWABLE ANYMORE*

-Proven Sr. Chocolate Mini Rex Doe (HC28)

Produced beautiful babies and has great lines behind her but has developed cage aggression and a while back likely broke/pulled her food with lounging and now it points out pretty far, and is held weird which makes her no longer showable. She did amazing when she hit tables and took BOV a handful of times but she can no longer stay. She could still produce great litters (we also have her sister so she doesn’t do much for us genetically).

**If she is not purchased before the ionia show on the 26th she will be going to the cull buyer**

I wanted to see if this was something anyone would want before I sent her away. PM me for more info.

I feel like it’s been a bit since I’ve posted so I thought I would start sharing the upcoming litters we will have in the next couple of months. The first group we have is our lilacs. The first picture shows our lilac buck Po who has so far only been to one show and has gotten best of variety and best opposite group. He is the sweetest boy with a really nice build that should help get our lines going! The chocolate shown is Truffle our soon to be sr. doe who has gotten best of variety at every show she has been at (she has shown in 3 shows so far) She is still a Jr. until the beginning of March so we have been holding off on breeding her until then. She’s got an amazing build as well with a beautiful lilac undertone to her color that really sold me on her for breeding purposes. The last lilac shown is Violet our Sr. doe who started this all for me. She has gotten best of variety as well at every show she has attended but has yet to go up against Po on the table. I have raised this rabbit to not only be one the sweetest rabbits we own but also be ready for showmanship for 4H since 8 weeks old. She has done amazing in tables so we are very excited to see what more she will bring. We are waiting to breed everyone until the chocolates we own are old enough but also until after the MSU show on March 4th. We cannot wait to see how everyone does there 🙂

MSU show was a hit today! so many people showed up this year and im so glad! We ended up selling Rocky, one of Mahinas broken castor buck. He went to a lovely 4-H home and is going to be the best showmanship rabbit. We got our newest addition Poe our Sr. Lilac buck. As of how everyone showed today, Violet got 1st place and best of variety yet again! she’s doing so amazing and i cant wait to breed her in december. It was Truffle and Saturns first show today and Saturn got 2nd and Truffle got 1st in the Jr. Chocolate doe class. Truffle also got best of variety as well! it got down to the nit picky stuff this show which I understand. overall, we are very very pleased with the turn out of this show and can’t wait for the next one!

Wow so much to update on! Mahinas litter have gotten so big now and they are 9 weeks old now and they are looking to be pretty nice rabbits. Came up with 3 bucks and 1 doe who is now separated from the bucks. she turned out to be a broken lynx and the bucks turned out what looks to be 2 castors and an Amber? Let me know ur opinions but they have the banding to support it. As of right now 1 or 2 are coming with us to MSU in search of a new barn (we will update with pictures after saturday of who will be at MSU). We completely rebuilt our rabbits cages and im so glad we finished them in time for all this snow we’ve been getting. Oh, and we got 2 chocolate jr does from HC Rabbitry and they are amazing with the best personalities. Thank you so much Thom and Donald for these amazing girls. The first one is Truffle who will be amazing for my lilac lines, and the second one is Saturn who will be a great doe for our lynx buck Peanut.

The following list of newly recognized varieties, along with our new breed the Czech Frosty, will be eligible to compete for all awards beginning December 1, 2022.

These Standards will be posted on the ARBA Website under Member Resouces > ARBA Rabbit Standards Committee.

They will also be included in the next print run of the ARBA Standard of Perfection, so plan to grab a new or updated copy!

The babies have gotten so big in this time, they are almost 8 weeks old. They still have their baby fuzz so we are hoping to get a true grasp on their colors soon as it’s looking a little confusing lol. We have come out with 3 bucks and 1 doe :l so we are taking them to the MSU show on Nov. 26th to see quality before we decide who will be staying of the bucks.

After almost 2 weeks of being with a friend and getting weaned off of milk, Mahinas babies are now home!!! They are fully weaned and are now eating FULL BOWLS of pellets and drinking water. They are even eating veggies which is amazing! I cant thank our friend enough for feeding them and keeping them alive so we can have Mahina with us forever. I love all of them and hope we can keep them all but if we can’t we will make sure to update. As of right now it looks like we have 2 does and 2 bucks but that could be wrong as it’s hard to tell based on how old they are :)

24/09/2022

We had our first rabbit show at Fowlerville, Arlo our broken black holland buck got 5th in his class, Violet our lilac mini rex doe got 2nd in her class and best variety which is amazing, and Winston our tan american boar got 2nd as well. We learned a lot about what we want to continue producing and for our first show it went pretty well. We are gonna continue with our mini rex and californians to help better our lines and gonna drop our hollands. Arlo will still be used for fairs though. Overall it was a very good show for us to start with.

so much has happened in the past 24 hours. momma mahina ended up passing away after being found limp and not being able to support her weight. we took her to the emergency vet but not much could have been done. she passed around 11pm and 12am and now the kits are alone. we brought them inside and are getting fed supplemented formula but there are starting to wean which is good. i’m so sorry Mahina, i wish there was more i could have done but everything was so sudden and quick. i love u with everything in my baby girl, and may you rest in peace 🤍
