Frankie the rescued Desert Tortoise visited the vet today. Overall she is doing well considering what she came from, she will be receiving prescription strength calcium to help with her shell condition. The vet seems to think that she isn’t full grown yet and hopefully she’ll be able to grow some more once meds are on board but no guarantees. All in all, she’s a little trooper with a lot of fight.

Our newest intake. A 10 year old Russian Tortoise with the sweet name of Lucy. She was an owner surrender who just didn’t want her anymore and the other rescues in my area are either full to the brim, or only taking in emergency cases. She is so scared so even though she looks good, I don’t think she got a lot of social interaction. I’m hoping we can bring her out of her shell and turn her into a social butterfly. Even though the previous owners did right by her health wise and got her a clean f***l and exam before relinquishing, she is still going under quarantine just in case the stress of the rehome causes any flair ups.

Little Frankie the Sonoran Desert Tortoise is doing amazing! We have determined that Frankie is a female! In only a matter of days she has come out of her shell (quite literally). She can not be stopped, always wants to roam around, she does not let any obstacle stop her. She has a voracious appetite which we are more than happy supplement. We can only guess how old she is without knowing her full history or hatch date but she is a feisty little thing. Gotta watch our toes around her as everything seems to be food to her.

This little one was found by a good samaritan and brought to us in hopes of finding the owner. The owner was located and they relinquished ownership. Now to just get him rehabilitated. Still trying to determine if it’s a desert or gopher tortoise.

Please share far & wide. You never know who you might help!

This week we are celebrating my dog as well as all the other dogs that have Addison’s disease.
If not diagnosed and treated in time, Addison’s disease can be fatal. But with proper medication, dogs can live active, happy, healthy lives.

The symptoms of Addison's disease may be vague at first, sometimes waxing and waning for months. You might see one or more of the following:

• Lethargy
• Lack of appetite
• Weight loss
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea, sometimes with blood in the f***s
• Exercise intolerance
• Frequent drinking or urination
• Dehydration
• Hind end weakness
• Tremors or shaking
• Collapse
• Changes in coat

If your dog is experiencing some of these symptoms, please take your dog to the vet for diagnostic testing, which may include a blood profile and ACTH stimulation test if Addison’s is suspected.

Once diagnosed, Addison’s is easy to manage.

For more information, please visit the Canine Addison’s Resources & Education (CARE) website at https://canineaddisons.org/ or join our group on Facebook:

You can help distribute our brochure for display at vet offices and hospitals, pet stores, doggy daycare, breeders, groomer, etc. We provide these free of cost. They are currently available in English, German, Italian, Dutch, and French (Canada). We are also in the process of making brochures in Spanish and Hungarian. Here’s a proof of the brochure. Contact us if you’d like some to distribute. https://canineaddisons.org/brochure/

Please share to help us spread the word and raise awareness!!

This is a proof of our Canine Addison's brochure, which we hope will help make people more aware of Addison's disease in dogs. If diagnosed in time, dogs with Addison's can live a long, normal life, doing anything other dogs can do (except breeding). The symptoms of Addison's disease look like many....

It’s a long video but on behalf of CARE for Canine Addisons Awareness week, I wanted to share this.
CARE has been helping us cover Gars care with his Addisons and it’s the least I could do to help spread awareness.

This webinar was hosted by Nancy Niggel, Director of the Chester Springs, PA Library. During Canine Addison's Awareness Week in February of 2022, she invited...
