My husband hates cucumbers, but loves bread and butter pickles (so named for the good ol' days when mums had nothing to feed their kids but pickled cucumbers on bread and butter.) This recipe is from the Fowlers cookbook Sticky Situations and it is delicious. Pick up your cukes from our roadside stall today (before it rains again and we have to pack it up!)

Fresh herbs out today at our roadside stall. We’ve got lavender (hang it up to dry), curry leaf (reminds me of friend Kala’s yummy Sri Lankan curries), lemon grass (smash it up and fry with chicken) and mushroom plant ( anyone‘s guess.) Fill a jar with your favourites( yes you can mix and match) and take it home safely in your car’s cup holder.

Our little roadside stall is open again on Thursdays and Fridays. The nuts have gone nuts this year, so we now have jumbo bags at $5 a pop. My friend Marian cracked hers open with a brick and baked them into yummy biscuits.
Anyone have any idea what to do with jackfruit? I've had jackfruit curry, but I suspect it was made on canned jackfruit as it's very gummy to prepare from scratch. There's a gigantic jackfruit out the front today for any brave soul to try.
And a basketful of handmade knick knacks (ceramic dishes, pincushions, totebags, ice-cream bowl cosies etc) in case you need a little pressie for a friend, even if that friend is you!

Thank you to the passers by who stop at our roadside stand, so we don't waste all this homegrown goodness. Picked a bucket full of old fashioned gerberas this morning and popped them into jam jars. They should fit into your car's cup holder if you'd like to take some home. Creamy custard apples are a backyard treat from my childhood. Tips for those who've never tried them - they should be soft enough to break apart with your hands when ripe, and spit out the black seeds. We have plenty of mandarins this year. Last year most were gobbled up by a flock of white cockatoos. Not sure where those birds are this year as, sadly, the nearby dam where they used to congregate has been filled in by housing developers.

Lucky Queenslanders can sow lots of vegie seeds even in winter, but I got just a bit carried away. Some extra salad and vege seedlings I grew are for sale at $4 a pop at our roadside stall. So why not plant out a few Pink Bumblebee (love the name) tomatoes into the garden or a planter box like the one pictured. I think you'll enjoy not sharing your produce with the usual gang of fruit flies and bugs that eat them up in the middle of summer!

Made my Mum this apron which I upcycled from an embroidered doona cover. There was enough fabric for 3 aprons, so the other two are in a vintage picnic basket out the front of our place. In case you run out of ideas for your darling Mum, there are some handmade tote bags, pincushions and pottery items (everything max price of $20) for you to rummage through. We also have macadamias, avocadoes, limes and starfruit today. So thank you to the lovely Mums who stop by. If your kids aren't granny killers or a menace to society, be kind to yourself and remember you're doing a great job. Enjoy your day on Sunday!

And we're back! Yes, we've joined the rat race again. The rat race involves picking up all the macadamias before rats get to them and putting them out the front for sale to raise money for charity. Please drop by on Thursday or Friday and pick up some avocados, passionfruit, starfruit and locally made pottery and crafts. Everything is pesticide free, so please excuse any flaws. Thanks for buying local!

Found a vintage picnic basket and have filled it with home-grown pottery, shaped, glazed and fired on Oakey Flat Rd, Narangba. Perhaps you'll find a little something for your Secret Santa stash. Prices $10 to $20.
Also I sowed a Diggers Seeds collection of heirloom tomatoes with great names like 'Tommy Toe’, ‘Pink Bumble Bee’, ‘Jaune Flamme’, ‘Wapsipinicon Peach’ and ‘Green Grape'. I couldn't resist planting out so many tomatoes that I had to cook up and bottle them, using Grandma Farmers' vintage Fowlers Vacola preserver.
Plus the cucumbers have taken on a life of their own, growing to giant size while we're not watching. They've also had to be pickled. Tomatoes and cukes that escaped the boiling pot are at the front gate today at $2 per pack.

Who would believe so many want to eat our tomatoes? They're wrapped up like a Christmas tree to keep out birds and bats and we've made home made fruit fly traps. But a lone possum sneaks under every night, selects the ripest tomato and munches about half. Loves tomatoes, but can't eat a whole one. The remaining tomatoes are at the front gate today for $2 per pack. Enjoy some unsprayed goodness!

Once upon a time, Oakey Flat Rd was 600 acres of farmland. With housing developments in the last few years, only a couple of acres remains. The Last Stand is home to about 20 types of fruit and nut trees, some planted in the 1980s but still very productive. Rather than let excess produce be eaten by wildlife, we hope to leave some at the former farm gate on Thursdays and Fridays (unless it's raining!) Please pay into the honesty (mail)box - profits to charities.
