BarkAdvisor Rebel County
10 Months ago, I adopted my first dog; Robert the Greyhound. It was then that the canine community of Cork became known to me, a community I had been unaware of for years and was welcomed into wholeheartedly! Living in the city centre with a big dog and no car, I felt very limited in my options for Dog Friendly Spaces so I reached out to other dog owners to learn about what Cork City had to offer!
What started as a search for a dog park where I could let Rob run (still looking btw... #dogpark2020!) ended up started conversations regarding where Dogs were and weren’t allowed, and I was surprised to learn about the number of pubs and cafes that welcomed the four legged as well as the two! Once I started brining Rob out and abouts, I couldn’t stop and I kept looking for and finding more pet friendly spots that I would share with other owners. When looking online however, I couldn’t find anywhere with an up-to-date, comprehensive collection of day-to-day dog friendly spaces, so, after months of complaining, I finally decided to take it upon myself to make an Instagram account solely for Dog Friendly Spaces in Cork City.
After a half dozen posts and an announcement of the accounts creation on a local dog owners page, I had close to 100 messages from people and businesses asking to be featured, sharing their dog friendly places and reviews and a request. A reoccurring request; Make a page too! Now, I am not FB Savvy, Insta is my cup of tea, but Ill give anything a go in the name of dogs! So I made this page! Thats when requests for places outside the city limits started appearing, and well, I obliged, but it meant my original name of Dog Friendly Cork City wasn’t very appropriate. So.... here we are now; BARCing Mad!
