Girls have had the second storey added to their cage since there are more of them now 🤩

We went to pets at home for malt paste yesterday evening.

Two boys in the adoption centre. (We were told that all of their other rats were being treated for an illness out back - I asked if it was respiratory infections and they confirmed).

Absolutely terrified things. Both have ringworm, one is covered in scabs where he has been scratching, I think mites are bothering them too, and they have mild resp infections.

I would never recommend buying rats from the shop section, but these boys had clearly not been looked after and had been dumped in the adoption section to get rid - the manager (we were told by another employee) was terrified of rats, and we were told that these were the healthiest ones.

The healthiest?!

We couldn't leave them so now we have Aang and Sokka. They are being quarantined and treated before intros. It really makes me feel validated charging £7 more per rat than pets at home do - these boys run away when they hear anything, freeze if you get too close, and are generally unwell.

Snacky has had a stillborn after bleeding for a day or so on and off. Watching her now but no babies.

Also, snacki is either pregnant and about to drop or is turning into a balloon. So that's (probably) good

HOMING POST -

the two (currently ugly) rex boys are open for reservation. They're small ish so they'd be collectable in 2 weeks.

First come first served, comment on this post only.

Snacky is hopefully pregnant so don't worry if you miss these two :)
Normally I only do one litter per rat but it was a small litter and Skardi never lost condition so she will have another in a month or so also.

Snacky is now a permanent resident in the boys' cage until she is pregnant so hopefully another (bigger) litter very shortly for those waiting!

Rest in peace Goblin - this photo of her was taken 3 years 8 months ago. Her only ailment was age - she was getting skinny and struggling to walk. Definitely my oldest rat! Not sure how old she was here, but nearly 4 is a bloody good run.

Rattles, the big soppy siamese boy that those of you have collected rats will probably have met, sadly passed away last night. Looks like a heart attack.

This means that due to the dwindling numbers of boys, I'm going to start pairing this weekend.

To bond with your baby rats, you need to be confident. These babies are used to being played with "roughly", as you can see when I roll this boy onto his back. They will grab you with their mouths to get you to play (it is not biting).

If they are shy you just need to force it. Pick them up confidently. Have them on a secure sofa or chair with you. Put your hands in the cage, offer snacks. They'll come around as long as you are consistent.

Thank you so much to my fellow breeders who shared my post...all but two boys are now accounted for (possibly 2 more as the person who reserved them hasn't got back to me).

I will take individual photos today, been setting up the boy's new cage and now seriously need to clean my house 😂

These are some vague pics -

Decided to keep 3 boys (the darkest one, the rex himilayan and the smallest wheaten burmese [tan coloured]). The others are available.

Keeping 3 girls (Rump, a standard himi and a rex burmese).

So there are;

- 5 girls (take a pair or a three)
- 8 boys (take a pair)

First come first served by posting on HERE ONLY.

I.E: "two girls please"

This isn't a guarantee as I will need to send you some questions to answer and I reserve the right to refuse sale :)

Babies are still quite small so keeping them for another week, maybe 2.

There are only 5 girls available (a 3 and a 2) for homing. There will be 9 boys (three pairs and a 3).

It is first come first served once the post goes up - no one is guaranteed anything regardless of any conversations we have had. It may be worth being flexible with your s*x choice if you are a first time owner!

Final count: 11 boys, 8 girls.

We will probably keep 2/3 girls (including Rump who we are keeping because of her missing tail), and 2 boys.

Homing post ETA about 2 weeks.

Looking at costings I have had to sadly remove the "multibuy" discount for lack of a better term. It's £20 per rat, pairs minimum.

Chicken time!

Some people have messaged me saying that they have favourites that they "want". This is great, you're allowed favourites...but we haven't picked our keepers yet. After that it's essentially whoever gets here first after the homing post picks their babies on the day.

Avoid having favourites so you aren't disappointed!
