Loki went back to the vet for a dental. The vet wanted to do pre-sedation blood work and all his levels are great! Luckily he did not need any extractions! His teeth are now brand new and sparkly white. His breath will be so fresh to give his future people lots of nice kisses. 🦷🦷🦷

Also since he’s ridden back and forth to the vet twice now I’m happy to say he’s excellent in the car!

His second vet bill was $330.

Loki went to the vet on Friday to get a wellness check, one vaccine, microchip, f***l, and monthly prevention. And this was the result:

Luckily he is heartworm negative!
He has hookworm which is being taken care of.
He has a double ear infection which is being treated.
His teeth are bad and he will have to go back for a dental...an extra expense for the rescue.
He had a grade 2-3 heart murmur so we decided to do a chest X-ray and sure enough he has an enlarged heart...which is typical for the breed. But what does that mean? It means he will be on heart medication for the rest of his life. It’s not a death sentence but it’s something that needs to be managed and checked up on. He won’t be able to go on long runs or long hikes, but he will need to stay fit and active. His heart medication is $100 a month, so his forever home will need to make sure they can afford to treat his heart condition.

But it also means that he has a bigger heart to give more love 💜

I’m also posting the vet bill so people understand the expenses a rescue takes on by taking in a dog. This $515 bill won’t be covered by a $400 adoption fee. Which is why we do fundraisers and greatly appreciate donations. So if you have some spare change laying around we would be grateful for whatever you have to donate to Loki’s expenses and the other dogs in our rescue.

Step #1 in slow introductions...10 days after being in my home we go on a controlled/supervised walk with my very well socialized dog Flex.

Loki is very good on leash, for a bull terrier, but we will be working on making him better. His interaction with Flex was great, they did some butt sniffys and then they were focused on the walk. After a few more days of walks I will see how they do in my back yard together. So far so good!

Loki is a smarty pants.
He’s been watching from the kennel as my dogs freely go in and out of the doggy door and he figured it out all on his own.

Loki has now been in my home for one week. The first couple of days I tried to just get him to decompress since he was pretty stressed leaving his home, parents, and dog sister. He is getting used to my home and slowly coming out of his shell.
So here is what I know so far:
-He was surrendered at no fault of his own, his family encountered Pandemic hardships and wanted to do what was best for their dogs.
-He is going to be 4 years old on Dec 13
-He has no known health issues, but will be going to the vet for a few vaccines, a dental, and an overall wellness check.
-He is crate and house trained. No accidents or marking.
-He wants to engage with my dogs, but we are doing a very slow intro, so we will find out more about him being dog friendly. He was living with a female Pitbull that he got along with great.
-He walks pretty good on leash! He needs to learn to ignore passing dogs...it’s being worked on.
-He is VERY sweet and loves belly rubs.
-He has not been destructive at all in my house.
