STABLE BLOCK: Our objective was to create an equestrian zone of calm.
We added wine barrels as a neat storage solution, upgraded the hardware on the walls, varnished the wood on the stable doors, and painted all the metal componants with a metallic finish. Nice and neat❣️🤠🐎

STABLES: We freshened up the stables with washable paint so we could use a light colour and added wine barrel grass bins. Horse heaven ❣️🤠🐎

This area was perfect to create a succulent garden as it framed the guest parking area as well as is on route to the paddocks, so it is enjoyed every day.

We designed a grass walkway through two flowerbeds, by removing the corner of the paddock.

In the middle of the back garden we built a feature rose bed, and included a bird bath.
We also trimmed up the cedar trees along the wooden fence line, and created hard-scaping interest using the old paddock fencing.
Around the house we removed the irises and replaced them with agapanthus, lavender, and purple impatiens (shown in future ranch gardens post).

The entry to the lunge ring is now welcoming. We used the old paddock fencing to build a raised flowerbed around this tree which also now covers up the exposed roots.

We created a private oasis feel around the pool with an arc-flower bed. This separates the pool from the guest house and stables in a flowing manner.

Lawns: We rehabilitated the grass in the paddocks as well as up the driveway. We removed the fencing around the cottage to create a more coherent flow with the equestrian facilties.

We combined the two paddocks with the new fencing and removed the walkway.
We also excluded the area under the London Plane tree from the new larger paddock as it was a mud pit when it rained.
Our solution was this tranquil garden sanctuary.

Driveway: We got rid of the old paddock posts and built lovely ranch-style fencing.
We moved the paddock lines outwards to create more space as you drive up the driveway.

Front Gate: We removed the ivy that was growing on the entry walls, cleaned up the bricks, and added beautiful flower beds.
We also neatened up the two trees behind the gate and added hedging behind the fence.

Last season we had a few 'dark' areas where trees had become crowded. As winter ends we are cutting back in those spaces, to add more light and airflow.

This rose is a special surprise. It is the bloom of a climbing bush that was planted in the wrong place, way too much shade. We didn't want to move it as it is an old plant, but hidden and struggling.

So we cleaned up around it, opened up the space, and nurtured it back to health.

18 months later, we are blessed with a first bloom. So special😃🌹❣️

Morning blooms 🌹.
We just love our orange rose bush 🧡. Orange roses symbolise 'happiness' and 'fascination'.

Here is more rose colour trivia:

🩷 Pink roses symbolise 'gratitude' and 'appreciation';
❤ Light red roses symbolise 'grace' and 'elegance' while darker red roses symbolise 'commitment'.
🤍 We also have dosens of white roses, symbolic of 'deep love' and 'affection'.
