I'm very sad to let our friends & followers know that Ivy, the mother to all our puppies, passed away unexpectedly last night.

We were hunting pheasants in North Dakota and she apparently suffered a twisted stomach (aka GDT) that is often fatal if not treated surgically within 2-3 hours. By the time I knew what might be wrong, the ER Vet said too long had passed for any realistic chance to survive. We were also at least an hour from the nearest treatment option.

I'm posting this to honor Ivy's too short legacy AND to make you aware of this potential injury so you can look up symptoms and educate yourself on what to watch for. I'm not aware of any genetic concerns and it would be far more likely in a hunting dog exerting itself in the field. Even though I had heard of this injury, I thought I had taken precautions to minimize the likelihood it would happen (e.g. don't feed heavily mornings of hunting days and excessive watering). I didn't recognize something was wrong soon enough and lost my friend last night.

We loved sharing Ivy's 33 different puppies with all of you and we'll miss her terribly. She was the reason we started Daytona Goldens. I had hoped additional litters might be possible as she wasn't even six years old. It's too raw to ponder the future.

Happy New Year from Daytona Goldens! Ivy (back) and Scooby (front - we kept one male from our 2022 litter) are taking a break from playing in the deep, fresh snow! No pups are planned for us in 2023, but we'll post updates when another litter might be coming.

Our last two puppies were reserved yesterday. We look forward to raising them over the next two weeks and then sending them to their forever homes starting Father's Day weekend. Thanks to everyone who shared our Daytona Goldens site and pictures. We have met lots of nice people over the last three years and enjoy seeing photos of the dogs as they grow. We aren't planning a litter for spring 2023 as our son will be graduating HS.

Fences are my only defense against the puppies getting into my perennial gardens! They love to chew on the plants and will lay right in the middle of a hosta.

They are now five weeks old and roaming a bit more when we let them out. Two of these gorgeous little faces are still available. Can you guess which ones?

We're down to the last two girl pups after getting two deposits yesterday! They are enjoying the outdoor kennel and roaming the yard a bit. My plants will suffer!

The pups are spending their first night in the outside kennel after moving to solid food today. They love to interact with humans and get visitors nearly every day. Still have four girls left. Please share this post.

The puppies are now four weeks old and becoming escape artists. They want attention and clamor at the gate to be picked up. We allowed visitors over the weekend to see the pups in person so they were worn out last night. We still have four females available.

Our little neighbor girl LOVES coming over to spend time with the puppies when we take them outside for some fresh air. She climbs right into their pen and makes sure to hold each one! This is a big part of why we raise golden retrievers ... spreading the love of a dog/puppy with our friends and the people who adopt our pups. They are 3.5 weeks old and more fun everyday!

The puppies change so much every day! They are coming up on 3 weeks old and getting around much better. They still walk like they are drunk, but definitely see and hear us now and seek us out at the door. They are also getting more vocal ... turn the sound up. ... their little puppy barks are funny. My apologies for the poor video ... something between our phones doesn't play nice with each other. We still have four females available. Tell your friends!

Puppies are two weeks old today. They are almost 3X their birth weight and now free roaming in the room as they escaped their whelping pool too often so we took it out. All five boys (light blanket) are reserved, but five of the six little girls (dark blanket) are available. Eyes are open and they are walking around much more.

We think there has been enough inflation over the last year so we're going to keep our puppy pricing the same for this litter. $1,000 total with $200 deposits will reserve your selection order.

Eleven puppies were born overnight with 6 girls and 5 boys! They ranged from 13.2-17.5 oz with two little girls being the smallest. Our temp names this year will be based on children's characters from TV/cartoons. We will figure that out after a nap! Only one was born before midnight...

Ivy is in labor, but no puppies yet. Last year she started at 9 pm and wasn't done until 3:30 am! Was hoping she would let me get some sleep tonight!

Quick Update: Ivy is definitely pregnant and getting bigger each day. Anticipated due date is approximately April 24th. We won't know how many, or what ratio of males to females, until they are born, but we'll post as soon as they arrive. First pick for a female is still available. Only males reserved so far.

We enjoyed seeing lots of two-year old birthday pictures of handsome dogs from our first litter over the last few days. Those ten pups were Leap Year babies born on February 29th, 2020. Our next litter will be born around April 24th and we are taking $200 refundable deposits to secure your selection. Big news! Ivy has been paired with Max again and we expect to have another litter of beautiful AKC registered puppies arrive sometime around April 24th. Another 8 weeks means they would be ready for new homes in mid June. Perfect timing for a summer with your new pup! And all of a sudden we only have four pups left! Eight have gone home with their new families over the last 24 hours. Three more go home tomorrow and we get to have Moose for another 10 days while his family is vacationing. We love them all, but good to see them go to wonderful new families!

It's been a busy week of puppy selections, a quick trip to SD, and getting the garden planted before last night's rain. Only two puppies are left unclaimed after Latte (white) was selected last night. Pistachio (light green) and Polly (red) will be the last two to get their forever homes. Only a few short weeks left to love on them...

First semi-solid food and a new home for the puppies on a nice warm day. They quickly gobbled up the water softened kibble and slept well with full bellies!
