Good Shepherd Farming Education and Outreach Helping to fight food insecurity in the Metro Atlanta area

Good Shepherd Farming Education and Outreach was established to help fight food insecurity in the Metro Atlanta area. By providing assistance in establishing and managing market gardens on land owned my communities of faith we are able to provide much needed fresh produce to local food banks and feeding programs.

Does anyone know how to get Georgia Power to deliver wood chips.

We’ve asked several times. Wood chips make a great source of brown for the compost. The curcuit we are on is currently being cut daily.

Wood chips help us make the compost that we take to our partner schools.

The bed pictured is a hugelkultur bed we made with the compost.

It be a huge help to get some of the chips.

It’s going to be a fun day for Rambo, Snowy, Rexy, and George.

We want to thank Vego Garden for donating two raised beds. The beds will be used at our church to put fresh produce into the Manna Pantry at Faith Methodist Church Cartersville this year.

We can’t wait to see how much they produce. The beds were set up using a hugelkultur method. The compost was already at the church ready to use.

This was an amazing day to work with a great group of kids. Thank you Stephanie!

Farmer K had fun playing in the dirt with Red Top Middle School 6th grade with Mr Conway's STEM class.

Thank you to Vego Garden for donating a raised bed! The kids had a great time filling it using Hugelkulture methods including kitchen scraps from the school kitchen composting program with K & T Farms.

Afterward they got to enjoy a fresh Georgia Rattlesnake Watermelon grown by K and T.

This bed will have a low tunnel installed to allow the students to grow lettuce and other veggies through the winter for their school lunch room.

We had a great time at Clear Creek Elementary School for their school garden wellness event. We built and filled lots of raised beds using huglekulture that the kids will plant seeds in this week.

Thank you to Martin's Wrecker Service for taking the time to bring us this roll-off full of fresh carrots!!!

When they picked them up they hated to see it go to waste in the landfill so they made some calls and eventually were put in touch with us. These carrots will make beautiful compost and give back to the food cycle instead of being buried under layers of trash. 😁🥕

Chicken Club!

We had a great time with students at Cloverleaf Elementary School. We taught them how to make chicken enrichment treat toys using vegetables, fruits, and flowers and decorated the chicken run with them. Then we gave a much needed beak trim to one of the hens and surprised the club with some new feathered additions! The students did a great job working on the enrichment activities for the hens and even had some great ideas for swings and see-saws to add to the run to keep the hens entertained.
