"For we walk by faith, not by sight." 2 Corinthians 5:7
This small basket of squash and cucumbers may not look like much, but it is a testament to the provision of God and the faithfulness of those who said "yes" to God's call.
One year ago this April, Kevin made a call to Hollydale United Methodist Church for his work and while he was standing in their old soccer field it hit him- we should grow here! He called his dad and told him "We should build a farm at Hollydale to grow fresh produce for the community." His vision was shared by Pastor Terrance Hull and together with Kevin's dad, they created a plan to turn an old, overgrown soccer field into a bountiful market garden. With the blessing of elders of the church, the garden began to take shape.
A year after his first visit to Hollydale, Kevin and his family transformed the hard packed, w**d filled field as the earth was turned to soften it, compost was added to regenerate it, and the soil was hilled to create rows for the seedlings to be planted in. And now, after thousands of man hours, we can finally see the first fruits. This small basket is the first of many to come that will be donated to local families in need. The days and nights spent in the field will provide hundreds of pounds of fresh, local, nutrient rich foods to local farmers markets, food banks, and families.
"We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Thessalonians 1:3
Today, we were humbled as the congregation gathered together to bless the grounds, the plants, and the harvest to the glory of God. There has been and will be much more work, labor, and endurance needed throughout this growing season and the years to come as we continue to expand and serve the community but we are blessed indeed!
