Sonoma County sheriff’s detectives said they arrested two people and seized more than 70 lbs of m**hamphetamine following an investigation into m**h distribution in the county.

SCSO K9 located 10 pounds of m**hamphetamine seized during traffic stop.

On 06/24/2026, at about 09:30am, a uniformed Sonoma County Patrol K9 Unit was on patrol in the area of Lakeville Highway in rural Petaluma when his attention was drawn to a speeding vehicle.

The deputy conducted an enforcement stop on the vehicle for speeding and contacted the occupants, Felix Miller, 61, of Santa Rosa, and Jedediah Renda, 56, of Forestville. While conducting his investigation, the deputy utilized his dual-purpose-trained police K9, Riggs, to conduct a narcotics sniff of the vehicle. During the sniff of the vehicle, Riggs detected the presence of narcotics inside. The vehicle was searched, and 10 pounds of m**hamphetamine was found inside. Both Miller and Renda were placed under arrest.

The Sheriff’s Office Narcotics unit was contacted and executed search warrants at Miller and Renda’s residences. During the subsequent search, more m**hamphetamine, a scale, packaging material, and a fi***rm were all located.

Miller and Renda were both booked into the Sonoma County Jail for 11378(a) HS, possession of a controlled substance for sale, 11379(a) HS, transportation of a controlled substance for sale, and 182 PC, conspiracy. Both were later released with a citation and ordered to appear in court on a later date.

K9 Alerts Lead to 9-Pound Narcotics Seizure

A Sonoma County Deputy and his k9 assigned to the Sonoma Valley assisted another deputy on a traffic stop in the area of Highway 37 at Lakeville Highway. The deputy obtained consent for a narcotics search of the car. The k9 alerted to a briefcase in the trunk that had around 9 pounds of suspected m**hamphetamine.

Twenty-four-year-old Deissy Rodriguez-Mondragon and twenty-three-year-old Dionicio Navarro were arrested for possession of narcotics for sale, transportation of narcotics, and conspiracy. They were both booked into the Sonoma County Jail, and later released on zero bail.

This kind of alert-and-search highlights how effective K9 units can be in combating narcotics trafficking.
