Oakley had a very wierd season and we opted to not breed her this time around. We only want to breed when we are sure that our Momma's can handle the litter 100%. We may consider breeding her later in 2024 if she cycles normally again.

One of the most rewarding parts of being a breeder is getting updates abouts our puppies. Here is RAFFLES (now Marnie) with her favorite person. She was the subject of his extensive 4-H project and this young man was presented with a Junior Showmanship award at their dog show. Proud of these two!

If you plan on doing the NAVHDA Natural Ability test with your Griff puppy, remember they can only test through 16 months of age. The Rocky Mountain NAVHDA chapter have started their training programs, and there is a NA training in Peyton, CO on 5/6. You must be NAVHDA International member as well as a chapter member, but then trainings are FREE. Visit their website for more info!!

This litter is CLOSED and in the Books. All the pups are sold. So happy for the pups and their awesome families. They start going home today and by 4/1 will ALL be in their super homes.

We'll be taking a bit of a Griff Break from breeding since Oakley is turning 5 and we are in the process of moving to Minnesota. Check back with us in a few years!

Who we are...

Canyon Labradors and Griffs are located in northern Colorado Springs. www.canyonlabs.net for more information. Please click on Oakley’s page (under Girls) for litter information!

While we are new working with Griffs, we have been involved with purebred dogs (Labradors) since 2001. We’ve shown and competed with the labs over the years, earning obedience, rally and hunting certificates, as well as having a couple of show champions. We’ve also bred a number of Labrador litters. I am a member of our parent club, the local breed club and the local kennel club. I strive to make sure we are breeding our Labradors responsibly and ethically with a mind to preserving the breed.

With that in mind, I plan to bring that experience and dedication as we go forward with our Griffs. We got our first griff in 2015, however, tragically lost her in 2017 when we found out she had a drug-resistant form of hereditary Idiopathic Epilepsy. After trying to mediate her illness for 9 months, we had to let her go. Currently there is no health testing available for epilepsy.

Despite the unfortunate experience, I fell in love with the breed and waited almost a year to bring our new griff into our home. Oakley has been a great addition to our family. While not hunters ourselves, we do try to make sure we foster the natural instinct that griffs are known for. We work her in various AKC, UKC, and NAVHDA events and plan on breeding her in early 2021.
