Jealous Boots
Someone is jealous that their furbrother is getting some mama snuggles!
Out practicing some “Loose Leash” walking!
When you meet another dog on the trail!
- stop at a distance
- put your dog in a sit get their focus on you!
- if your dog is reactive, correct the reactivity with your marker for “no” - put more distance between you and the other dog
- do not allow a meet and greet unless both dogs are displaying calm and appropriate body language
- respect other trail users and ALWAYS tether your dog when approaching people/dogs
Mom has been making me ”jump through hoops” for my treats today!
Big shout out to Alisha Avery and Ruff Around the Edges dog training for the Knowledge and skill set to be able to teach this trick to Harper and share it with our FB fam!
Happy Training!
Off-Leash Recall! The ability for your dog to stop what they are doing and return to you when you call them is an extremely important skill for them to master! Teach it early, reinforce it often!
Teach them a cue to get their attention away from what they are doing - for Harper the cue word is “STOP”
Give the command “come” - when they start to return to you praise them enthusiastically!
Upon return put them in a sit and do a collar touch while providing the reward!
Practice, practice, practice! If you want to participate in off-leash activities make sure your dogs recall is on point! Go off-leash in areas that are not heavily used by other dogs/people!
Always leash your dog as soon as you encounter another dog/person! Your dog may be friendly but that doesn’t give them the right to invade another dogs space!
Just some training fun!
It’s good to teach fun things to your pup to broaden their repertoire and to prevent training fatigue! When working on your obedience training, throw in a little trick training here and there to keep them interested and eager to train! Trick training also helps strengthen the bond between you and your pup! 🙂 Happy Training!
