I only ride my moms horse in fair weather.

Post ride stretching is a must. Especially when she is working harder and building muscle. We want to make sure muscles are functioning properly and recovering.

Message me to book a massage for your horse.

Roy is the ultimate cow pony that has a successful 2025 show season ahead.
This sweet guy was purchased in the fall by a client, she noticed soreness within his withers and tightness in his hips, so she has dedicated the winter to resolving body soreness. Roy is on a routine with Chiropractor/Acupuncture and massage with lots of stretching between visits.
My first visit with Roy, he was fidgety, super reactive, little facia movement and very sore over the withers and Poll. As much as I love a wide chest, this guys chest was built like a "bulldog" from over compensation, his thoracic sling was over built in areas or weak in others.
He has has two sessions of Chiropractor/Acupuncture and I just completed his second massage and I was blown away with the changes in his body.
We worked on releasing his Brachiocephalicus, his pecs and moving facia over this withers. With the release and relaxation of the his neck/poll/pecs, I was able to get deeper into his hips and sacrum.
I like to look at the horse as a whole and know that if the front end is not firing correctly then the hind end can take the brunt or vice versa.

Use the off season to invest into your horse and maintain through out the show season.

Gentle Touch, Powerful Connection.

2025 is a time for new things and new adventures… and a brand new look!

We’re excited to share that we are rebranding - with the same passion and same dedication to the horse, but now with an exciting new offering!

Starting April 2025 we’re expanding into a Trail Riding Resort. Picture this: you, your horse, and your friends exploring beautiful trails, then unwinding by the lake with a delicious lunch and a glass of wine. We cannot wait to share this experience with you.

Now, for those who don’t know me - Hi, it’s Emily here! I am the owner/operator of Independent Equine Body Works which is now evolving into the new Kimmett Equine Services. My passion for horses started when I was 3 years old, riding my pony feral through the fields, pretending I was Dr Quinn Medicine Woman. That love grew into a lifelong commitment to equine well-being, leading me to specialize in:
✨ Equine Massage Therapy
✨ Craniosacral Therapy
✨ Body Balancing

I have put my heart into this and I am always learning, growing, and striving to help horses perform and feel their best. And, when I’m not working on horses, you’ll find me helping my amazing sister with her bookkeeping business, playing competitive hockey, or hitting the baseball diamond in the summer. This makes me truly appreciate the horses as an athlete.

Now, who else is behind Kimmett Equine Services? Every great business needs a powerhouse team, and I’m lucky to have one behind me:

✨ Halle Gibson – The creative brain behind my social media, marketing, and photography. She keeps us looking good and always has fresh ideas!

✨ Lindsey Furlong & Halle Gibson – The talented duo responsible for bringing my new brand to life, Halle with her drawing skills and a huge thanks to Lindsey for her patience and expertise!

✨ And most importantly, my family (especially my mom!) – For the endless support and love.

We cannot wait for what 2025 has to bring, and look forward to you joining along for the ride! Stay tuned for more information coming soon (and possibly a new website!).

Winter is such a crapshoot!
Winter is tough on the horses body. The uneven ground, ice, bitter cold to warm, little movement - is all hard on their muscles, joints, facia, lymphatic system, and nervous system. The horse benefits from a massage/crainosacral in the winter, if they are working or not. But … then it is finding the right timing for that massage. For example, today I had to reschedule a full barn because of the -25 temperatures. I am always dressed for the cold with my 8 layers but it is not about me, it is about the horse. There is not a big benefit to massage a horse in frigid temperatures, the muscles are cold and the muscles need lots of circulation to be able to recover properly.

Living in Canada is blessing but sometimes not ideal for the horse people.

Why is the Nuchal Ligament so important?

Lets start at the head and work our way to the tail.
The muscles that pull and turn the ear outwards attach the base of the ear to the back of the skull and nuchal ligament. As the Nuchal ligament runs down the crest of the neck and connects to the spinous processes of the withers and continues caudally as the supraspinous ligament.
The latissimus dorsi muscle inserts on the teres major muscle, and together they pull the limo backwards (retraction). The brachiocephalicus and omotransversarius muscles draw the limb forwards (protraction), but only relative to the position of the head. The height of the head-carriage is therefore a key factor in producing a specific length of stride. Not only does it enhance or restrict the action of the lower neck muscles, it also increases or reduces traction along the nuchal ligament. The laminae of the nuchal ligament stabilize the position of the neck bones, and this stability is transferred via the supraspinous ligament along the spine to the thoracolumbar fascia. This is the point of origin for the latissimus dorsi muscle. In order to protect the forehand from jarring, the muscles of suspension have to comply with the movements of the limbs in both the swing and stance phases of the stride. If the nuchal ligament and its laminae are the counterbalance to the brachiocephalicus and omotransversarius muscles, the latissimus dorsi muscle is the counterpoise to both of these. Not, however, if the corner of the scapula is wedged under the tree of a tightly fitting saddle. suppleness of the neck muscles and the traction of the nuchal and supraspinous ligaments. - The Horse’s Muscles in Motion – Sara Wyche

Let me help your equine partner, extend their stride.

January is almost full for availability.

The frozen uneven ground has been hard on a lot of the horses in our area. Help them release the tension in their neck and shoulders with a massage. Winter is tough on the horses body even if they are not being ridden. Between the temperature changes, deep snow, ice and frozen ground, it takes a toll on their body.

Sonny agrees that I should continue working on my nerve release course.
This fall/ winter I have been working on completing a very interesting course to add to my toolbox.
Nerve Release.
What is nerve release?
Nerve Release bodywork is any modality that specializes in creating healthy space around the peripheral nerves to aid in as much healthy function as possible and to alleviate compressive neuropathy.

A few common cases that come up that are alleviated within one session are:
Head shaking syndrome
Reluctance to move forward
Undiagnosed lameness that cannot be blocked
Chronic tension in the base of the neck and shoulders
Explosive bucking/rearing

I will taking advantage of these cold days to stay inside and complete this course so I can continue to help your equine partners. I truly look forward to 2025 season.

Message me for more information.
