** NEW ARRIVALS ON THE WEBSITE **

If you haven't visited our website recently, you may have missed the newest additions. Even if you're not ready to adopt now, help us spread the word and find them homes so we can save even more! Say hello to some of FOHA's latest arrivals: Buttercup, Glinda, Montgomery Burns, and Papaya! (website links in captions).

You can see all of our adoptable animals on our website. If you see one that might be a good fit for your family, submit an application (no obligation) or stop by the shelter between noon and 5pm on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. If you'd like to meet an animal in foster, please submit an application so we can arrange a meeting.

FOHA is a 501c3 rescue and all dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and on preventatives. Most of our animals are pulled from rural shelters to help them free up space, so every animal adopted or fostered opens a spot to save one more!

** Nanni and Ohana need your help **

We are still looking for an adopter or foster to take in our bonded couple, Ohana and Nanni. We know they need a very special family, so if your home isn't a good match, we'd love to get 100 shares on our post to help us find someone who is willing to take a chance on this special couple. 🥰

They have been at FOHA since May 2023, and in that time they have watched over 1000 other dogs and cats find forever homes. Could you be the one to help them find a Christmas miracle? Here's what you need to know
- They are shy around new people, but their fan club can tell you how affectionate they are once they are comfortable with you
- They thrive in the company of other dogs, and enjoy playgroups at FOHA
- They need a home with no kids, and no cats or other small animals
- Adoption fees for both have been sponsored by Kim Baggett Real Estate
- Both are eligible for FOHA's Foster Forward Program
- They are also part of FOHA’s Diamond Dog Program, which means they receive extra training support and guidance to help them succeed in a home.

If you'd like to meet them, or discuss them with an adoption counselor, please submit an application (there's links on their pages).

This is Nigel, a 9-year-old, 63lb male mixed breed! As you can tell from his photo, he’s a real Heinz 57 dog – his DNA test showed he’s a mix of German shepherd, Lab, beagle, Chow, Catahoula, and more! He’s good on the leash and is very easy to walk. He’s excited to see the staff and volunteers at the shelter come to meet him, and he has made lots of friends who love to walk and snuggle with him. Human friends that is – he doesn’t enjoy the company of other dogs and needs a home where he will be the only pet. He would also do best in an adult-only home with an experienced owner. Could that be you? Nigel is eligible for the Senior Care Plan and the Foster Forward Program. To learn more about Nigel, check out his bio:

This is Leo, a 3-year-old, 46lb male mixed breed. He’s a sweet, active boy who just wants to be loved. He’s silly and goofy and will keep you laughing as he entertains himself playing with a jolly ball around the yard. He loves his people and can’t wait to cuddle with them. He does well with other dogs but would do best in a home without small children due to his energy level. Come meet this sweet guy! Leo’s adoption fee has already been covered by generous donors! Leo is also eligible for our Foster Forward Program. To learn more about Leo, check out his bio:

Our Tails of Hope campaign continues, highlighting the amazing animals whose stories show why your support for FOHA matters. We’ve raised $42,000 so far, but with your help, we can reach our $195,000 goal and bring hope to even more animals in need.

Today, we’re honored to introduce you to Cornbread, a sweet senior pup whose journey reminds us that some matches — both pets and their people — are simply meant to be. Continue reading to hear from Cornbread’s adopter, Wendy.

“It’s funny how life works. My husband and I went to the Loudoun Pet Expo with one simple goal: to find some treats for our current pack of dogs. We were not looking to adopt.

Then we passed the FOHA booth and met Cornbread, a sweet hound who immediately stole our hearts. I knelt with him for several minutes, giving pets and chatting with the volunteer, joking that our pack was full or we would have taken him home. We walked away, but that brief, tender encounter stayed with us long after.

The next day, while I was at my work in public health and su***de prevention, the topic of "cornbread" came up. Since this was very unusual for my line of work, I interpreted it as a sign that I needed to think about that sweet hound dog more seriously.

I checked FOHA’s website with my heart racing, only to see Cornbread already had an adoption pending. I was disappointed but relieved he was going to a loving home. When two adoptions fell through the following week, we knew the signs were clear—less than two weeks later, Cornbread joined our family for good.

Through this process, I couldn’t speak more highly of everyone at FOHA, it was clear they always had Cornbread’s best interest at heart, just as they do for every animal in their care. As part of FOHA’s senior program, they even covered the first $1,500 of his medical expenses.

We want to see FOHA continue this incredible work for more animals and families, so please support their Tails of Hope campaign this holiday season and help make more perfect matches like this possible.”

Meet Pop Tart, the FOHA Cat of the Week, a 2-year-old, 8lb male domestic shorthair! Pop Tart is doing fabulously in his foster home and has been able to show off more of his personality. He’s ready to find his forever home! To learn more about Pop Tart, check out his bio:
