Friends of Homeless Animals is a non-profit, no-kill shelter for homeless dogs & cats, located in Northern VA

Located in Northern Virginia, Friends of Homeless Animals has been serving the Washington metropolitan area since 1973. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) no-kill shelter dedicated to saving abandoned and abused dogs and cats. We provide rescue, medical care, rehabilitation, and adoption services in the Northern Virginia and Washington, DC metropolitan areas.

Hi, I'm Doris! I take my time choosing my friends, but I am affectionate and playful with those who have earned my trust. I enjoy splashing in my pool on a summer afternoon, going for walks, playing with stuffed toys, and cuddling up in cozy blankets. I like to be in charge of my environment and belongings, especially my food, but I am working on getting better at that. Because I am still a work-in-progress, however, my ideal home would be with adults only and no other pets.

Congratulations to the great group of dogs who were adopted between May 17 and May 24: Dahlia, Dottie Minerva, Gabe, Lila, Sharon, and Vette. Best wishes to all for a happy life with your new families! Thank you so much to our awesome staff and volunteers who work so hard every week to get our animals into forever homes.

You can see all of our adoptable animals on our website. If you see one that might be a good fit for your family, submit an application (no obligation) or stop by the shelter between noon and 5pm on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. If you'd like to meet an animal in foster, please submit an application so we can arrange a meeting.

FOHA is a 501c3 rescue and all dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and on preventatives. Most of our animals are pulled from rural shelters to help them free up space, so every animal adopted or fostered opens a spot to save one more!

🎉 Davenport is an adorable cross-eyed kitty who loves toys and is super playful. He's sweet and a bit sassy. He loves to be pet but will politely let you know when he wants some alone time!

🌟 Pringles is a playful and affectionate boy who does well with children and other dogs. He's been in foster care and is housebroken and good on the leash. He can be a bit skittish but warms up quickly once he feels safe.

Met Chai Latte, a 5-year-old, 8lb female domestic shorthair. She’s a beautiful girl with a soft coat and amazing coloring. She’s friendly and affectionate and loves to get attention – give her a few head scratches and she’ll be your best friend! Meet Blaze, a 2-year-old, 57lb male Hound mix! He’s a sweet boy with nice manners who is also fun and playful. He loves to go for walks in the neighborhood or on the trail so that he can smell all those smells that hounds love.
