Brigid did very well her first night here! She was very happy to see us. She was still skittish about coming out of the barn so we put her on a lead. We walked the perimeter; this is on purpose so she gets familiar with and respects boundaries. Took her longer than expected to interact with electric fence. She’s a very smart girl and if fitting in beautifully!

Today was grooming day for Falkor. We never know how it’s going to go, even though he’s medicated. He wa such a good boy today! He allowed clippers on his face and he got such a nice groom. His only issue today was the blow dryer on the face. He has very clear feelings about no blow dryer on his face! LOL!

This is Falkor. He is a rescue pup who is a permanent part of our Family. He had a hard day yesterday and this is him navigating it. Yesterday he had a grooming appointment. He requires medication so the groomers can safely work with him (it takes 3). Well, yesterday medicated or not, he wasn’t having it. He gave them a hard time the entire grooming session. He even got out of the muzzle 3 times 😳. They were able to get him groomed but Angela Stanley wasn’t happy about it. You see, she genuinely cares about every dog she grooms and takes great pride in her work. Falkor didn’t care yesterday; he made all 3 of them earn it yesterday. I left feeling like I didn’t pay them anything close to what they should have been paid. It makes us all sad when he has moments like this. I’m Grateful we all Love him through it. Last night when we got home, this was the rest of the night; Falkor on my lap. Maybe next month he’ll have a better visit.
Thank you Angela for Loving him.

On Tuesday and Friday I travel to Raleigh for our compost project. Normally, I have Carissa and Odin our 2 house GP’s. They enjoy their work. Today however, I had other errands to run while I was out and the places don’t allow dogs. No problem. I left my dogs at home because it’s too hot for them to be left in a vehicle and I Love them enough to want their safety first!
Be a Michelle; love your pets enough to keep them safe: when it’s hot outside, keep them home.

54 hours he’s been with and we are Happy and Grateful to be escape free!! It’s not that there haven’t been attempts however, he’s not been left alone and we watched him from a distance, knew in advance he’s a climber and the chess game began! The fence has an electric shock wire at the top to shock him in a climb attempt and we’ve run a wire around the perimeter of our deck because yes, he attempted to go over. One escape attempt at the fence and one on the deck and he understands what happens: he gets shocked. He has decided to forgo escaping and be happy here. We’ve even tested him from a distance so he thought we weren’t here and he went back to our room and climbed on the bed and took a nap. Good job Odin!

This is what it looks like when your humans realize you are not remotely interested in working in the barn and pasture, you’re highly skilled at fence climbing so they take you to Tractor Supply to get materials to secure the fence to keep you in the fenced area. He’s mastered the doggy door and he’s very comfortable in the house. He wants to be with people. We’ll be scheduling a grooming appointment for him just to get him cleaned up from his adventures on his own. It’s time to teach him manners as well.
Welcome home Odin ❤️

Meet Odin aka Smalls. He came to us by way of Franklin County Animal Shelter NC. This is his Freedom ride. He’s been walked, and introduced to inside group. After meetings, we’re taking him out to the barn for introductions and he’ll begin his work here. He is clearly a work dog. A job he will have.

We have a new addition. Meet Freyja. She came to us as Claire and that doesn’t suit such a Beautiful Border Collie such as her! She was spayed today so she is anesthesia drunk. Introductions have gone well. Falkor is the only one still grumpy. He’ll be fine. Her previous owner found her in the middle of an intersection, trying to get into cars. Tell tale sign of being dumped (unsure if it was by previous owner or if she had been stolen and dumped). This gentleman LOVES this dog. However, she wouldn’t stay on his property. She would go to neighbors to assist with their cattle, another neighbor’s kids, etc. no one was very accepting of her willingness to work for them. This man made the excruciating decision to rehome her: if he couldn’t find a home for her, he would rather put her down than to come home find her deceased on the road. I can’t begin to imagine how difficult this was for him. What an incredible Love he has shown her. She is safe here on the farm. We’ll have work for her. For now, she gets to rest. Introductions are going well.
