Since 1998, Pet FBI has been reuniting lost pets with their families. This Giving Tuesday, we are excited to announce that one of our generous donors has offered a challenge match. Thanks to their generosity, the first $2,500 donated on Giving Tuesday will be matched dollar for dollar!

Your donations to Pet FBI are essential and allow us to provide a comprehensive, free searchable database of lost and found pets, email alerts to aid in the swift recovery of lost and found pets, and a knowledge base filled with tips and advice to guide the search for a lost pet. Additionally, your gifts provide shelter reclaim fees for pet owners who can’t afford the cost to reclaim their pet, microchips, ID tags, and microchip scanners for police departments.

This Giving Tuesday please consider a donation to Pet FBI. Your generosity will ensure that Pet FBI can continue its mission of reuniting lost pets with their families. Thank you!

🎃 Halloween is right around the corner! Here are some tips to keep your pet safe:

1. ID and Microchipping: Ensure your pet has a collar with an ID tag and a microchip with up-to-date info.
2. Watch the Door: When handing out candy, be mindful that your pet doesn't dart out the door.
3. Secure the Candy: Keep those treats out of your pet's reach. Chocolate, xylitol, and other candy ingredients can be toxic.
4. Decorations Awareness: Keep decorations, candles, and jack-o'-lanterns out of your pet's reach.
5. Costume Consideration: If you plan to dress up your pet, make sure the costume is comfortable, doesn't restrict their movement, and doesn't have small parts they could chew on or swallow.

Lost Dogs Illinois -More than just a posting service!

Read Leon's story, we are very proud of our free services, volunteers, partners, and fans!
We received this email, Friday Oct. 11th
"I hope you're doing well. I am writing on behalf of a friend. Their dog was stolen from the home last night while they were at curriculum night at their daughter's preschool. Several other homes on the block were also burglarized and there is footage of the thief carrying Leon. He is a 1.5 year-old Shih Tzu.
The family recently moved here from Colombia and their young daughter is having a hard time adjusting. This dog, Leon, is her best friend and she is beyond devastated to have lost him.
We've posted on Nextdoor, Patch and Ring, filed a report on Pet FBI, had a news crew come and speak to the family this afternoon, we are hanging up fliers and we are scouring Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace in case they try to sell him. Is there anything else you recommend we do? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!"
Loen's registration from our partner, Pet FBI came through to us, and his post was up within minutes. Guidance was given by text, and the friend was advised to make sure the microchip information was current. She was told it was.
Another Lost Dogs Illinois volunteer saw a possible match at Chicago Animal Care and Control but the friend thought this dog was too light. This same dog came through to her as a 'potential match' through PetFBI.
"I saw him in one of the emails I received because of PetFBI and Pet Connect!!! The shelter had him listed as a Maltese Pomeranian and he looked very white in the picture. But sent it to Marcela and it was him!!!! We have no idea how he ended up there but they got him home and he's healthy and safe! They scanned his chip but I guess said the number was wrong? Marcela had updated it so I don't know if they scanned him before she updated it or if it took a bit to sync. I couldn't believe it. What an amazing resource. Thank you so much"
We are so happy the family was able to get Leon back home safely. He was far from his home in Wilmette and was found near the South Side of Chicago. We are also thankful the friend helped this family by registering with PetFBI and that he was microchipped, that is an easy way of confirming it is your dog!
Thank you to Chicago Animal Care and Control for partnering with us so these matches can be made for these families. Lighting can be deceiving, breeds and genders can be mistaken, chips may have not been scanned for yet, etc. Always check if you think it could be your dog! Welcome home Leon!

Springtime often brings the threat of high winds and severe weather. Take precautions to keep your pets safe! 🐕🐈💨

• Be sure gates are closed and fences are secure before letting your dog outside.
• Check that collars are properly fitted, and leashes are securely attached.
• Secure exterior doors so they don’t accidentally blow open, allowing a pet to escape.
• Make sure your pet is wearing an ID tag.
• Keep a tight hold on the leash when walking. The sound of the wind or items being blown about can startle a pet.

Lost Dogs of America created National Lost Dog Awareness Day in 2014 to bring attention to all dogs that are lost each year, while also celebrating the many lost dogs successfully reunited with their families. The day aims to give hope to families still looking for their dogs and to remind the public that not all stray dogs are homeless dogs. 🐾

The Pet FBI Story

Pet FBI was founded in 1998 by Maresa Fanelli, a retired French professor looking for a way to consolidate information about lost and found pets. After a distressing experience trying to recover a lost cat, Fanelli conceived the idea of a free interactive online database for lost and found reports where worried pet owners and good Samaritans could connect quickly and efficiently.

Pet FBI was started in Columbus, Ohio, but has since expanded to cover the entire United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. It continues to be volunteer-run and posting a report is always free of charge.
