The polar bear is the largest member of the bear family, and at the same time the largest modern land predator; it represents the highest level in the Arctic food chain. This animal is well adapted to the conditions of its existence: its dense fur and thick layer of fat insulate the animal's body well from the cold, and its white color is an excellent camouflage during hunting. Thanks to these adaptations, the polar bear is able to hunt on land, on the sea ice, and in water.
