Awesome therapy dog visit at an elementary school today! Osito handed out 117 of his trading cards and got ALL the pets and cuddles. 🤍

Osito earned his AKC Farm Dog certification today! 💚

Hubert passed one of the two trials, so he got a ribbon and we’ll try for the rosette in the spring. He doesn’t like stepping on the straw and who can blame him? He did it once, though, so I’m very proud of him and how far he’s come in just eight months here. He did everything else perfectly!

They’re both working on their Fit Dog Bronze certifications and participating in the 2024 AKC Turkey Trot, so stay tuned!

Osito is going to take the AKC Farm Dog test soon. There are twelve items on the test and the one I’ve been worried about is getting up on a bale of straw.

Silly me. He investigated the bale, I said, “Place,” and he hopped right up.

I’ll admit I got a little choked up. He wouldn’t be where he is today without the help of so many people who believed in him and supported him.

Huge thanks are due to Dr. Anke Langenbach and her team at VSC - Vienna, who took great care of him through both hip replacement surgeries. Kirsty Oliver and everyone at VSC Rehabilitation in Leesburg who put up with us every week for almost a year to make sure he was in the best possible shape to make use of his new hips - look at our boy now!

I don’t even care if he passes the certification test, seeing him up on that bale of straw was reward enough for me.

I do kind of want the ribbon, though. 🤫

Osito’s friends at Loudoun County Animal Services shared his latest update! I’m so proud of all he’s accomplished. ♥️

We love hearing about what LCAS alumni are up to after adoption! This pup-date from Osito's family had cheering! They write:

"I want to share Osito’s latest achievement. He passed the test to become a certified therapy dog! We’ve done one supervised visit and after two more he’ll get his official tags and vest. The group in my area visits hospitals, nursing homes, and schools. They welcome home returning military personnel and go to court with victims (especially children) who need some support to feel safe.

He was made for this, he’s just full of love and peaceful energy. I feel so lucky to be the one holding his leash! I always tell people he got his start at Loudoun County Animal Services. Thank you!"

Osito is sad that his current training class is ending soon, but there’s no need for him to look so worried.

I’ve already started the process to have him become a certified therapy dog! I think bringing love and positive energy to people is his true calling, so that’s what we’re going to do.

Quick update for those of you interested in the Neakasa litter box. Sales go live on Friday. I received an email that said there will be an additional $30 off on their website bringing the price down to $469.99.

This litter box gets two paws up. My cats love it and prefer using it to the other boxes they have available. It’s been working flawlessly. The app doesn’t bug me with notifications each time a cat uses the box. Instead, it lets me know when the waste bin is full or litter is low - just the important things. The waste bin is huge and the bags fit well and are easy to change. The entire unit is easy to keep clean thanks to the open design. It’s easy to add litter for the same reason.

I’m on the fence about one feature - when the waste bin is full the drum rolls over so cats can’t access it. This is good because it prevents the waste bin from overfilling, but if I can’t drop everything and change it the cats have a problem. For me that just means they have to use a non-preferred option, but it’s something to consider if you only plan to have one box.

There’s a bit more litter outside the box than with the enclosed drums, but it’s still pretty minimal. That surprised me in a good way. The box comes with a large mat to catch litter outside the box, which is a plus. The unit does need some kind of step for less agile cats, but it’s easy to find something less expensive than the step they sell.

Hello, friends!

I had my annual cardiology appointment this morning at CVCA Cardiac Care for Pets and I did great. Everything was exactly the same as last year. My doctor said I’m doing so well because I’m so chill. My heart rate stays low and steady no matter what’s going on around me. Mom calls it Pyrenees zen.

I had to stop and say hello to everybody I passed. I got lots of pets and lots of treats from my new friends. It’s been a good day!
