10 Lies About CBD & Dogs –
A Must Read Guide Before You Buy

CBD for pets: If you haven’t heard about it, you’re living under a rock!

Unfortunately, Facebook and social media in general are full of inaccurate information and sellers pushing questionable products. We put together this resource exposing the myths around CBD:

Lie #1 – CBD Will Cure Anything That Ails My Dog.

Sadly, the CBD for pets industry is plagued by unscrupulous sales reps and affiliates that promise that CBD can cure nearly any health condition. Most of these claims are not supported by any scientific research or clinical trials.

What can CBD help? Here’s what we believe the research today shows:

CBD is a powerful anti-inflammatory that promotes healthy joints, especially in aging dogs – Many people notice remarkably more mobility after giving CBD to a dog showing signs of joint pain.

CBD promotes a sense of calm, especially with dogs with anxiety or phobias – CBD is remarkably popular among owner with dogs experiencing separation anxiety.

CBD reduces the frequency & severity of seizures – This is perhaps the most studied aspect of CBD, not just in pets but also in humans.

CBD shows promise in other areas well, but more research is needed.

Lie #2 – CBD Is Illegal in My State.

The changing legality of ma*****na is hard to keep track of and varies by state, but when it comes to CBD oil from h**p, it’s easy. Unlike ma*****na, h**p is legal in all 50 states. The 2018 Farm Bill, recently passed by congress and signed by the president, further clarified the legality of h**p. It’s perfectly legal to buy and possess CBD oil as long as it’s obtained from h**p and has less than 0.3% THC.

Lie #3 – H**p and Ma*****na Are The Same Thing.

The first concern people have for administering CBD oil to their pets is exposing them to potential toxins related to cannabis. While the cannabis plant is most commonly associated with ma*****na, h**p is its much safer cousin. Unlike ma*****na, h**p is not psychoactive, which means it can’t make your dog high.

Lie #4 – It’s Ok to Give a Dog Ma*****na THC.

Dogs and cats are extremely sensitive to THC and can suffer from what vets describe as “ma*****na poisoning.” A dog or cat will not feel very well for up to two days after ingesting THC or CBD from the ma*****na plant and more often than not, it could be fatal!

Lie #5 – CBD is Psychoactive & Will Make My Dog “High”.

It’s the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in ma*****na that gives people a high. CBD oil from h**p, however, is cannabis that contains less than 0.03% THC. CBD oil has all the therapeutic properties of cannabis without the mind-altering characteristics of THC. Many CBD from ma*****na products have 0.05% THC or more and again, this could prove to be fatal to to your pet.

Lie #6 – It’s Easy to Give a Dog an Overdose of CBD.

Fortunately, it appears to be extremely difficult to give a large enough dose to seriously harm an animal. Unlike the THC, the toxicity of CBD appears negligible. With that said, you should always start slow when introducing any new supplement to your dog’s diet. Occasionally, the carrier oil (such as MCT oil or H**p Seed Oil) can upset a dog’s stomach that is not used to a little extra fat in their diet and of course it should always be discussed with your vet.

Lie #7 – All CBD Is Basically The Same.

If you’ve shopped CBD online you’ve likely seen a wide variety of pricing which can be confusing.

Oftentimes, too low of a price can signal poor or inconsistent quality. A trustworthy CBD supplier will go the extra mile to test their CBD by batch to ensure its efficacy and purity. All of these extra tests add up, but we believe its worth it.

Lie #8 – It’s Ok To Buy a H**p Product Without Knowing Exactly How Much CBD Is In It.

To skirt regulations, many sellers of h**p products label them as PCR oil or simply h**p oil, and refuse to state how much cannabidiol (CBD) in milligrams is in their product. This can be very confusing, as the proper dosage can make all the difference.

Lie #9 – CBD Oil is The Same Thing as “H**p Oil” or “PCR Oil”.

As stated above, some brands are creating new terms around their products to avoid certain federal, state, or local regulations. The product may contain CBD, but without knowing how much, its hard to know the proper CBD dosing for your dog.

Another confusing term is H**p Seed Oil. H**p seed oil has many benefits as a carrier oil, as long as CBD oil is also included on the ingredient list. Never use h**p seed oil alone, as it does not contain significant levels of CBD.

Lie #10 – It’s Ok to Buy a CBD Without Looking at a Third Party Certificate Of Analysis (COA).

Sadly, very few online sellers publicly display their certificate of a**lysis (COA) on their website. A COA is crucial for ensuring that products contain the amount of CBD it claims, as well as showing its is free from all traces of THC or at the very least, less than 0.03% H**p Derived CBD and contains no other contaminants.
