Putting up our artwork in the new home. I’m sure we have pictures of my husband somewhere… 🤣
Rainy day rest ❤️
Meet Lady 🌸. In her new home she loves the children but is nervous around the dad, narrow spaces and sudden noises. To help her gain confidence and comfort we have started by implementing safe spaces, nosework games and clicker training. Little by little she is coming out of her shell ❤️.

Serious Boris. Nope 😆 he’s a fun loving puppy. First session together we tackled problem behaviours by giving appropriate outlets for his natural desires. Today we worked on relaxing with the family inside. He was great!
Moments of love and peace between two of our dogs who don’t always get along ❤️. This becomes more common place if Kelly’s exercise needs are met and Bailey has quality social and play time with us .
What we should all aim for 🤣

Here is a sneak peak of my ‘Play With Your Dog’ series.
Kelly the kelpie x border collie is easily over excited, incredibly strong, and a little obsessive. Here you can see my husband Myall practicing toy play with him.
- Myall picks up Kelly to have him release the toy (Kelly is okay with this)
- Play break is encouraged with soothing pets
- Myall moves toy like an erratic squirrel trying to get away
- To prevent Kelly tugging backwards and injuring his neck, Myall moves around, holds the toy high or moves it side to side.
- Myall gives the finished cue at the end, though Kelly is too fixated on the toy to disengage just yet (work in progress!)
Stay tuned so you can see Kelly’s progress and many other play moves.
Little Rory was attacked by a dog and has since been anxious and fearful of some. Today we went through a framework for dog introductions and interactions. Rory was feeling much more confident and comfortable with this in place ☺️.
Any other crazy Kelpies out there?
When I arrived at Marli’s house she was jumping, zooming, and investigating everything with 💯% energy.
This is her after we adjusted the environment, her walking gear, our behaviour, and rewarded calm ❤️
She is still a 6 month old crazy Kelpie, but now she can appreciate some slowness in her life.
Dog reactivity is like back pain. It is continuous, effects many parts of your life, and causes everyone to be a little irritable. There is rarely an instant fix, but compassion and therapy can get you a long way.
Remember, your reactive dog isn't giving you a hard time, they are having a hard time.
Remember, there are lots of free resources on my website 😁

Big dogs with big feelings ❤️❤️. These two loving dogs are very eager to please their humans and live in our society. However, sometimes their personal fears cause them to overreact, bark and lunge. Please don’t hold that against them, dogs their size, or their humans. These two are making wonderful progress!
I like to teach children ‘pet pet pause’. Continue petting if the dog moves closer to you. Stop if they move away.
Dash: “should I bark crazily and run circles around my human?… nah, I’m going to be a good boy”.🥳
Today’s happy dogs 😄. Each of these dogs needed help with walking on lead, polite human greetings and reactivity towards other dogs. Even though they were the same issues, we used different approaches depending on the individual and the specific situation. All dogs are individual and there is no one size fits all.
Dog Gear! 🐾
Q: What leads do you use with your dogs?
A: For myself, a long 5m lead for individual walks and a shorter double ended lead for busy places and multi dog walks.
Myth: The best way to greet a dog is to hold out your hand for them to sniff. 🖐🐶❌
Take a look through this poster and share it with your friends!
Wasn’t even bothered by my stamping 👏🎉. Wesley can be afraid of strangers, but is becoming more comfortable with me through training games and nosework.
Having secure containers of dried dog treats around the house can be a game changer. You can easily and frequently reward your dog for calm, desirable behaviours they display without prompt.
I got to work with these two wonderful girls today. Mel is greatly improving with her walking behaviours, reactivity towards others, and greetings. Can you spy Ari?
Decompression Walk ❤️
These special walks are fantastic for you and your dogs. Twice a week or so, take an extra slow walk where you don’t ask anything of your dog. No training. Simply relax and enjoy the environment together 😊
- 1 step per second
- long lead
- allow prolonged sniffing
- relax!
Love this! 😆
Young Rae and her guardian are learning how to balance energetic and relaxing activities. Both are as important as the other when bringing up a working breed.
I’m working with Kelly to help him be comfortable with his ear medication. Take a look!

When I first met Tuco the Borzoi he would fixate, jump, lunge, and bark at others when on lead. He is now just a little reactive with a head on approach. Check out his progress!

Walking with my chronic puller in recovery. Using a 5m lead gives Bailey space to be a dog. Rewarding on the ground helps slow his pace. #dogwalking #bordercollie #dogtraining #positivedogtraining #dogtrainingcanberra #brighteyedcanines
Wesley is loving his muzzle training games! Once he is comfortable wearing one he will have greater freedom, knowing he can do everything but bite. #muzzleupproject #reactivedog #positivedogtraining #fearfree #blueheeler #brighteyedcanines
Last storm I decided to see how my noise sensitive border collies went without my usual set up of music, stuffed kongs and crates. They were still alert to the sounds, but did great with occasional treats! #progress #bordercollies #noisesensitivity #storm #positivedogtraining #dogtrainingcanberra #brighteyedcanines
Update! Rex is progressing well with his new feline siblings 😃 #update #catsanddogs #bullterrier #newsibling #reactivedog #brighteyedcanines
Do you have a dog like this? You are not alone! Archie is so wound up at the start of a walk that he whines, howls, continuously pulls and seems really frantic. He has now started leaning some manners and how great it is to relax. I hope to give an update in a few weeks 🙂 #dogwalk #anxiousdog #irishsetter #goldenretriever #canberradogtrainer #brighteyedcanines
My #bordercollies and #kelpies love exploring on bush walks. I am able to give them this #freedom and #enrichment because we have built great outdoor behaviours, like recall. You can hear me call “this way!” when I want the dogs to adjust their direction and move with me, and “puppies come!” when I want all my dogs to come straight to me. Also notice how they stay close to me until I say “okay”, meaning they’re free to do what they want. #canberradogtrainer #dogrecalltraining #positivedogtraining #practicemakesprogress #canineenrichment #bushwalk #brighteyedcanines
Lovely kelpie x Mel just had her first session. Among other things, she is learning to walk nicely with her human. Previously she was pulling and jumping into backflips 🤭 #dogwalking #happydog #positivedogtraining #kelpie #rescuedog #brighteyedcanines
This is what happens when you train a cat for a moment longer than they want to 😂 #cattraining #crazycat #sphynx #brighteyedcanines
Thunder!! ⚡️ You may recall that two of my dogs are fearful of thunder. Before training they would race around, furiously barking every time there was a rumble. With some practiced desensitising and forming positive associations with the noise, we are now able to get through a storm without loosing our minds 🤪. I turn on some music, place them in their crates where they feel safe, give a yummy stuffed Kong (carrot and apple sauce today) and praise when they don’t react to thunder. I do this for all of my dogs so that the non reactive ones don’t pick up any bad habits. #thunder #dogreactivity #calm #brighteyedcanines
Parallel dog walking can be great for many things! Introductions, fear, reactivity, over excitement and more. Start at a distance from one another and gradually come together as the dogs are comfortable and well mannered. Kassie is a puppy who really wants to play. Molly doesn’t want to play so we keep walking forward instead of facing each other. This satisfies both dogs. #dogwalking #dogtraining #brighteyedcanines
My dogs are enjoying La Niña 😅 #dogouting #bushwalk #canineenrichment #wetdog #laniña #brighteyedcanines
With the help of a neighbourhood dog, Gasket the poodle was able to practice being comfortable around another canine 🐕 🐩. His comfort level started off with a park between us. We managed to progress to sniffing each other! Working with your neighbours is a great way to regularly train. #dogtraining #dogagression #poodle #progress #brighteyedcanines
