Day after day I see fellow animal care workers being under valued, mistreated, over worked, being placed in unethical situations, not rewarded for their efforts and frankly being treated is a somewhat disposable manner.

Don’t get me wrong there are many business owners that place employees happiness as a clear high standard of happiness, if you have found this place, STAY, it’s you unicorn work family.

Many animal care jobs/careers ask for a task to get done for the required job and of course they are required to pay for the work that is done. Often times the pay is not enough and it’s simply not the only reason an employee goes to work, especially if it involves caring for animals...Not in it for the money alone. Pay should not be the only reward for work.

Happiness is the main reward! When you go to the place of you job/work/career, HAPPINESS MUST BE THERE! You must be happy with your choices, quality of work, the “why” you do your passionate work, and the team around you!

Do not continue to settle for a place that does not care for your happiness. This only hurts you, your family and friends in the end. Change the culture of your work place to include happiness!! Or find a place that fits everything you want.

I do believe everyone has the power to include and initiate happiness in the work place no matter the position you are in. Have the courage to change the animal care work culture for the better! Go get started on bringing smiles to the daily life you live.

Quality Over Quantity.... every time guys! This breaks my heart so hard when a place that is supposed to help animals And goes the wrong direction with this. When it goes Quantity over quality, so much gets missed, so much! The most impactful are Patient care (this should not suffer) Client care, Staff mental health, and the business values are out the window. What is the reason you help animals? Keep those reasons in the forefront of your mind to ensure you give each animal QUALITY! They deserve it, so do their owners, and so do YOU!

We know caring for animals isn’t just cuddling with puppies and kittens like everyone thinks. Of course there are moments of pure puppy love bliss, that’s why we do what we do! Your mental health is so important! In Veterinary, Rescue, or any type of animal care professional you can experience happiness followed by trauma, followed by happiness and so on.
