I wanted to give you guys an update as to where we are with our breeding program. As of right now, we have halted all breeding. We are letting all of our retired breeders live out their lives as spoiled babies. We will not be continuing any of the lines we currently have. Unfortunately, there were too many things getting muddled into our lines that we never wanted there because we didn't start our breeding program off correctly. Once our current stock passes on, we will restart correctly and only with rats from reputable breeders with outstanding temperaments. While I used to be opposed to recessive hairless, I will no longer be trying to avoid it. They don't always live quite as long as their hairy counter parts or double rexes, but the gene has come a very long way and the ones we produced on accident are all going strong. Once our retired breeders pass (hopefully at least a year from now), we will see how they're doing and I will decide if it is really something I want in my lines. Then we will start very slowly bringing in good stock and start breeding again. Most litters will not be for sale for the first year or two after we start breeding. Babies will be kept here until they are a few months old and then the ones with the best temperaments will stay here, the once with great temperaments may be available for pet only homes, and the rest will likely go as feeders. Until we get temperaments completely figured out, I do not want to send them into pet homes. Unfortunately, work has to be done on some lines. I will not sell feeders live. They will be PTS with CO2 and then frozen. Once lines and temperaments are figured out, babies will be available to go home at 8 weeks old. They will not be available for reservation until 6 weeks old to ensure proper temperaments. We also will be going a lot slower than normal. We will likely only have a litter every 2 or 3 months, rather than every 5 weeks like we were doing. We are going to do things right this next time around. We are hoping to start breeding again by 2021, and start selling babies again by 2024 at the absolute latest. Hopefully by 2022, but who knows what will happen. After some long thoughts, we have decided to pet home Radagast and Bilbo. Both are siamese dumbos and they were born April 19th, 2018. Radagast is either double rex or a very thin haired rex. Bilbo is rex. They are sweet and loving boys, but are both very dramatic like their dad. They do great together, but tend to scream if their dad even walks by them. Then he screams back and it's just battle of the screams and it stresses everybody out. They get along fine with the other 2 boys in the cage who were introduced as babies, so I do think they could do okay with added cage mates as long as they are babies. Poor mama just wanted to get away, but these chunks are relentless. I normally keep this in so mama can get away, but it looks like I will be taking it out so babies don't get hurt.

After some long thoughts, we have made the very hard decision to halt our breeding program for a few years. We do plan to come back, hopefully in the Summer or Fall of 2020 or 2021. We want to thank everybody for their support and love of rats. Please stay in our group, EATR Family, and continue to give us updates on our lines. The Vampire Diaries will be our last litter. We have males left that will be ready on June 28th to go to their new homes. ❤

Some bath introductions were done today and everything went really well!! They groomed each other a bit and no fighting at all happened :)

Everyone welcome Murphy to EATR! He is a new buck that we are adding to our Rattery from J & J ' s Willamette Valley Rattery. He is a beige self with an amazing temperament so we are very excited to see the babies we get from him in the future.
