Guardians of Rescue We are a non-profit organization whose members work tirelessly to protect the well-being of animals. This program is a very important aspect of our mission.

Programs

Our programs are designed to provide assistance in a broad range of scenarios, to provide needed assistance, to educate, to motivate, and to advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves. Give me Shelter

This program works to ensure that all animals are provided with proper protection from the elements. The program’s initiatives include volunteers patrolling for animals in situatio

ns without proper protection and adequate food and water, workshops on shelter construction, gathering supplies, and mass shelter assembly days. Guardians of Rescue will be providing shelters free of charge to any and all dogs and cats in need. With this program, we will be joining forces with numerous organizations including organized labor, law enforcement and fellow animal welfare groups in order to maximize the resources needed to assist animals in need. Helping Families:

This program is designed to keep families together. It provides pet food and supplies to anyone in need due to a catastrophic event, or to families in need due to economic reasons. Home Again: Operation Support Our Troops

This program is a part of our Veterans and Military Affairs efforts, assisting returning service men and women in adopting a dog or cat from an animal shelter when they return home or bringing back a pet rescued during their deployment. Guardians of Rescue volunteers act as a special shelter liaison, helping with selection, completion of the adoption process, and training for both the animal and owner. We assist with the logistics of getting a pet home from the area where the service men and women are deployed, and making sure the animal adapts to US life, by providing whatever training is needed. Many men and women in the service are also faced with the dilemma of pet care when deployed on active duty, and are often stuck with no positive alternatives. Animals they adopt while on deployment are in need of safe transport home, and this can be difficult to organize. The therapeutic benefit these animals provide is immeasurable, and these men and women need our support. Next Generation Guardians: Humane Education
The Next Generation Guardians are a group of young people from all walks of life. Their goal is to “learn the ropes” of animal rescue, and be the change for our future. It is presented at public middle schools, high schools, Boy & Girl Scout troops, vocational schools and residential facilities for at risk youth. This program encompasses a number of animal welfare related topics, such as:

• How to recognize the signs of animal abuse and neglect, and how to report it in the proper manner.
• How to fight animal abuse and help defend creatures that cannot themselves.
• Why dog fighting is wrong and morally reprehensible and why it cannot be tolerated. To further the impact of our Humane Education program and further empower students, Guardians of Rescue works with schools and school districts to organize food and supply drives to benefit their local shelters, and assist them with our “Sponsor a Shelter Pet” initiative. Help us Help Them! If you want to volunteer for any of these programs, please complete an application on our website at guardiansofrescue.org. TOGETHER we can save them!

Another Surgery Day for Tesha

In July, Tesha became a GOR pup after law enforcement removed her from a neglectful owner. Tiny Tesha had suffered a horrendous burn and was denied any medical intervention for more than a week. When law enforcement intervened, the wound was infected and infested with maggots. Poor Tasha was in tremendous pain.

Since then, she has been with our medical foster. Many days in the hosptial, surgical interventions, cold laser therapy, silver salve, and all the love she can stand has brought her to her current state of health.

After her check up this week, our amazing veterinarians recommended another surgery. Although her healing has amazed us all, she still has several open areas that are not closing appropriately. Tomorrow morning, she goes back under the knife.

The shares, prayers, and donations from our faithful supporters make all of this possible. Thank you all for standing behind this tiny little fighter and showing her that her life matters.

𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐓𝐋𝐄 𝐏𝐄𝐀𝐍𝐔𝐓

Hidden away in a forgotten corner of a heartless puppy mill, Peanut's life was a cycle of endless litters. Her happiness and health were not important to her jailers, just the money she could produce by being bred. over and over.

Peanut existed solely to produce "product", her worth measured in the number of puppies she birthed for sale. Her days were marked by discomfort and neglect, her nights filled with the cries of her young, soon taken from her, loss after loss.

Then, a beacon of hope appeared on the horizon—Guardians Of Rescue, dedicated to saving animals from dire situations, learned of Peanut's plight. We arrived, not a moment too soon, and gently took her into our care.

It was the first act of kindness she had ever known, but her life would be only kindness from now on.

You and Guardians, together, have saved so many suffering animals like Peanut together that this became our motto—

Guardians community, we need your help today with an injured dog who needs medical care immediately.

She has been a "street stray" who has been fed by passers-by, but, sadly, she was hit by a vehicle on the highway in Baxley, Georgia.

There is no animal services department there, so a small, struggling local rescue answered the initial call for help. She was taken to a small-town vet with limited resources and the X-Ray showed a pelvic fracture. We were then contacted to try to get her the continuing care they can't give.

This poor girl is currently unable to walk and in a lot of pain, but her spirits are high and she is SO sweet. She has gone to our vets this morning where she will be evaluated by ortho. We need to raise funds quickly.

We don't know her name, but for now, we'll call her Mama, because we just found out SHE'S ALSO PREGNANT!

If you can chip in anything to help Mama, you can do that here—

Thank you on behalf of Mama, who just wants to stop hurting,

Pitbull Awareness Month is observed in October to promote education and awareness about pit bull breeds, advocating for responsible ownership and combating breed-specific discrimination.

This week of focus brings to mind Major, a brave pitbull saved by Guardians

Suffering on a 5-foot chain, Major was one of the dogs imprisoned on a Grundy County, Tennessee property. Major could barely stand when we found him there.

Guardians found Major just in time—tests revealed that Major’s body was on the verge of shutting down, as his body was “eating” his muscle tissue to keep him alive. Major had a Body Condition Score of 1.5 out of 9. He was full of whip worms, round worms, and other parasites. Major weighed in at only 31lbs. As a full American Pit Bull, at his age he should have weighed between 75-78 lbs.

On top of all this, X-Rays show his chest cavity around his heart, lungs, and other vital organs were riddled with buckshot from being blasted with a shotgun...Major had really been through Hell... he needed a lot of medical help, and thanks to your support at that time, got everything he needed both physically and mentally to heal in body and spirit.

And as proof of the resilience of dogs, and of Major specifically, despite this terrible past Major recovered, was adopted, and lives happily with his loving family in Indiana.

This month, we salute Major, his breed, and the people who love and care for them,

Back in July, we put out an urgent plea for tiny Tesha who had been removed by law enforcement after suffering horrific burns. We want to thank everyone for their shares, prayers, and donations! Without our faithful supporters, her recovery would not have been possible.

Although she still has a long road ahead with more surgery as she continues to grow, she has come so far! Just look at this sweet girl!

𝐃𝐎𝐖𝐍 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇 𝐏𝐔𝐏𝐏𝐘 𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐒!

Puppy mills are the dark and shameful side of the "pet industry".

Thousands of exploited dogs (and cats, in kitten mills) languish hidden away in horrible conditions, deprived of real care, nutrition and attention, valued only for the babies they churn out endlessly, seen only as dollar signs to greedy and dishonest animal abusers. When the breeding moms are worn out, and can no longer turn a profit, they are thrown out like trash.

On roadsides and flea markets, puppies are sold to anyone with the cash, with no concern as to the puppies' fates. With the coming of the internet, these abusers have been able to disguise their deplorable operations with cheery websites making them appear as professional and considerate breeders. Many people are fooled, and soon find themselves in love with their new puppy who often is sick, requiring thousands of dollars of veterinary care and enduring terrible suffering. Not all survive their abusive and deprived beginnings.

Guardians has always made the fight against these criminal enterprises a priority, working with law enforcement to shut them down, getting animals out, and regularly taking in animals for medical foster and teaming with our adoption partners to end the suffering and put mill victims on the path to happy, safe and healthy new lives.

The News—we can't release details yet, for obvious reasons, but we're gearing up for a new rescue mission to save dogs from a puppy mill, and it's happening soon! These pups need our help to escape a life of neglect and find loving homes. Every dog deserves a chance to feel safe, loved, and free from harm. We're working hard to make this rescue a success, but we can't do it alone.

Right now, as we approach zero hour, we need to raise the money to make this mission of mercy a success, and every little bit counts.

Like we have so many times before, can we come together now to give these deserving dogs a new beginning and show them the kindness they've been missing? If we can get many small donations, we can make this work, and the suffering of these current mill victims will end for good.

Right now, these dogs have no idea that an army of friends—you and Guardians—are out there working to free them from their forced breeding slavery. If you can be an angel for these dogs, you can do that here—

Stay tuned for updates on the mission and how you can get involved! Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these precious animals.

Thank you for the help—and hope—you give to suffering animals,

As you know, combating the evil of puppy mills is high on Guardians' priorities. For years, not only have we rescued and taken in many dogs for medical foster and adoption with our adoption partners, we've worked on the ground, undercover, with law enforcement to shut mills down.

Puppy Mill Survivor Day occurs on the last day of Puppy Mill Awareness Month and helps to raise awareness about the connection between puppy mills and the pet stores and online websites they use for sales of puppies.

Puppy Mill Survivor Day is also a day to honor all of the dogs who were rescued from the puppy mill industry, as well as those who never escaped that imprisonment. This Day helps shine the light on the dogs who were rescued from this cruel industry, and allows their adopted families to celebrate how far they have come and talk about what they went through in the mills.

Guardians will always work to stop the horror of these heartless puppy factories and rescue as many victims as possible. For the past few weeks, you've seen some of the stories of some of the dogs we've recently taken in to our medical foster. They all bear the physical and emotional trauma of a neglected and exploited life, but we are committed to restoring their health and trust, possible and put them on the road to the happy and loved lives they all deserve.

Do you have a puppy mill survivor at home? Please let us know and post a photo and your story.

𝐇𝐄𝐍𝐑𝐘 𝐒𝐀𝐘𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐊 𝐘𝐎𝐔!

When we save a severely neglected dog from a puppy mill, it is immediately life-changing for them to get cleaned up and relieved of the constant pain and discomfort caused by that neglect.

It is a relief to us, too, to see the real dog emerge from the years of suffering.

When we saved Henry from a puppy mill hell-hole in Colbert County, Alabama, he barely looked like a dog. Once freed from his prison of hair, it turned out there was someone under there after all!

These are the types of comfort and happiness you help to provide when you donate. Without you empowering Guardians, Henry would still be trapped and suffering, if he had survived at all.

Thanks you for helping Guardians to save so many victims of puppy mills and other horrors—without you, it would be impossible.

𝐃𝐎𝐋𝐋𝐘 —𝐀𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐏𝐔𝐏𝐏𝐘 𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐋 𝐌𝐎𝐌 𝐖𝐄 𝐒𝐀𝐕𝐄𝐃 𝐓𝐎𝐆𝐄𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑

This month, to spread the word about the evils of puppy mills, we are featuring mama dogs we have rescued from these hellholes.

A backyard breeder in Robertson County, KY, used Dolly to breed puppies and didn't care enough about her to give her even the most basic standard of care.
Left in a small freezing building, her horrendously matted coat was damp and filthy with her own urine and f***s that covered the floor and every surface - she had no option but to sit and sleep in the mess; breathing in dangerously high levels of ammonia that made her eyes burn.
Even worse, she wasn't alone. 13 other suffering souls were trapped there with her.
With severe upper respiratory infections, open wounds, eye infections, internal parasites and low rapidly-dropping body scores, these dogs wouldn't have survived much longer and their abuser didn't care. To them, the dogs were only valued as dollar signs.... but not to us, and not to you. Thanks to your support for Guardians of Rescue, Dolly was rescued and transformed, and the photos speak for themselves.

Guardians works to end this profit-driven cruelty; to seek justice for the victims of greedy heartless humans, and make sure innocent animals can know the life of love and safety that should always have been theirs.

Thank you for making transformations like this possible!

Guardians recently rescued little Pumpkin from a puppy mill,

Puppy mills in the US are the dark side of the pet industry. These facilities typically house large numbers of breeding dogs in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions. The dogs typically lack proper veterinary care, nutrition, and socialization. These animals are used for one thing — profit.

These puppies are sold in pet stores and websites, and they are found for sale at roadside flea markets. These animals often suffer from malnutrition, untreated illnesses, and parasites. Breeding females are continuously exploited until their bodies are exhausted, and puppies are often taken from their mothers too early.

Puppy mills are everywhere; they are in neighborhoods, in back yards, in small storage sheds, they are in basements and, often, in barns. After the mother dog is too weak to produce another puppy she is often discarded like a piece of trash, because she is no longer able to make money for the operators.

Pumpkin, a miniature poodle, is one of those mothers, and has had her share of puppies. Her tiny frail body trembles in fear at every noise she hears. When we found her, her coat was matted and loaded with fleas and f***l matter. Her toenails were so long they wrapped around her paw, making it hard to stand and walk. She was very dehydrated and underweight. Sick from the untreated intestinal parasites and infection, she haed suffered for a long time.

As bad as this all is, he saddest part of this all is her emotional state; she stands in fear and trembles. even though she is safe now, we can only imagine what she went through all the years imprisoned as a puppy mill mom.

Puppy mill dogs often show survival behaviors —Pumpkin protects her food. She will dump her bowl and hide the kibble under her blanket. She will stand in place for hours even though now she is able to move freely. Her trauma is deep.

But Pumpkin is receiving medical care and lots of love, and we are showing her daily that she is much more than a dollar sign.

Looking back to 2020 at Guardians biggest case—

When concerned buyers began reaching out to Guardians with unusually similar stories after purchasing puppies who were seriously unwell, and some had tragically died, we began looking into what was happening in Madison County, Tennessee. What followed was an extensive investigation leading to the take down of one of the worst puppy mills we have closed to date.

Hundreds and hundreds of dogs were rescued from appalling conditions; existing in filthy stacked cages filled with urine and f***s, and without food, water, or basic care. The creators of this hell were George Doyle, Tabitha Doyle, and Sandra Webb who were not new to exploiting and neglecting dogs to make a profit. Doyle and Webb were previously convicted of animal cruelty, but still his wasn't enough to make these sick individuals change their ways. Until 2020 they continued to deliberately cause suffering and they had to be stopped. Our team spent thousands of hours investigating - determined to bring their horror show to an end.

When we were able to go inside the property on the day of the police raid it was even worse than we imagined. We will never forget the sights, sounds, and smells in that place.
For now we focus on the dogs— every single one was removed from the hellhole, and we're happy to say all of the survivors found forever homes thanks to our placement partners who carefully found their perfect matches where they found the love and care they should have had all along.

As we mark 5 years since this case, we reflect with gratitude. Though the conditions at the property were haunting, once we stepped in we were able to immediately begin the work of changing lives; we could only do that thanks to the compassionate support we're so thankful to have - it's what makes cases like this - and the many others - possible to take on.

The happy "After" photos you'll see here are thanks to you, because only together we can end suffering, and...

Puppy Mill Awareness Day is celebrated on the third Saturday of September every year, to spread awareness of the cruel puppy mill industry and to encourage people to adopt, not shop.

Puppy mills are high-volume breeding facilities existing only to produce puppies for profit. The needs of the breeding dogs and puppies are ignored, and they are kept in inhumane conditions, in small, cramped cages, with no personal attention. They are only products to the heartless mill operators.

When the worn-out adult dogs can no longer breed, they are abandoned or killed. Due to overbreeding, poor sanitation, and lack of veterinary care, puppies from puppy mills tend to suffer from health issues and are usually unsocialized. After the puppy buyers fall in love with their new dogs, they often find the puppies are very sick, and often need thousands of dollars of veterinary treatment. Both dogs and people are harmed by these heartless puppy factories.

It’s estimated that there are about 10,000 active puppy mills in the United States, where 500,000 dogs are being kept for breeding purposes, and in total, there are 2.6 million puppies that come from puppy mills sold every year.

Please spread the word about the horrors of puppy mills, and when you decide to add a dog to your family, please adopt, don't shop! No matter what is your favorite type of dog, there is often a rescue organization specializing in that breed or a similar dog in a shelter, desperately needing a home.
