Guardians of Rescue We are a non-profit organization whose members work tirelessly to protect the well-being of animals. This program is a very important aspect of our mission.

Programs

Our programs are designed to provide assistance in a broad range of scenarios, to provide needed assistance, to educate, to motivate, and to advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves. Give me Shelter

This program works to ensure that all animals are provided with proper protection from the elements. The program’s initiatives include volunteers patrolling for animals in situatio

ns without proper protection and adequate food and water, workshops on shelter construction, gathering supplies, and mass shelter assembly days. Guardians of Rescue will be providing shelters free of charge to any and all dogs and cats in need. With this program, we will be joining forces with numerous organizations including organized labor, law enforcement and fellow animal welfare groups in order to maximize the resources needed to assist animals in need. Helping Families:

This program is designed to keep families together. It provides pet food and supplies to anyone in need due to a catastrophic event, or to families in need due to economic reasons. Home Again: Operation Support Our Troops

This program is a part of our Veterans and Military Affairs efforts, assisting returning service men and women in adopting a dog or cat from an animal shelter when they return home or bringing back a pet rescued during their deployment. Guardians of Rescue volunteers act as a special shelter liaison, helping with selection, completion of the adoption process, and training for both the animal and owner. We assist with the logistics of getting a pet home from the area where the service men and women are deployed, and making sure the animal adapts to US life, by providing whatever training is needed. Many men and women in the service are also faced with the dilemma of pet care when deployed on active duty, and are often stuck with no positive alternatives. Animals they adopt while on deployment are in need of safe transport home, and this can be difficult to organize. The therapeutic benefit these animals provide is immeasurable, and these men and women need our support. Next Generation Guardians: Humane Education
The Next Generation Guardians are a group of young people from all walks of life. Their goal is to “learn the ropes” of animal rescue, and be the change for our future. It is presented at public middle schools, high schools, Boy & Girl Scout troops, vocational schools and residential facilities for at risk youth. This program encompasses a number of animal welfare related topics, such as:

• How to recognize the signs of animal abuse and neglect, and how to report it in the proper manner.
• How to fight animal abuse and help defend creatures that cannot themselves.
• Why dog fighting is wrong and morally reprehensible and why it cannot be tolerated. To further the impact of our Humane Education program and further empower students, Guardians of Rescue works with schools and school districts to organize food and supply drives to benefit their local shelters, and assist them with our “Sponsor a Shelter Pet” initiative. Help us Help Them! If you want to volunteer for any of these programs, please complete an application on our website at guardiansofrescue.org. TOGETHER we can save them!

Dogs rescued from hoarding situations often face significant challenges, including medical issues, fear, and socialization deficits. These dogs require a structured decompression period to adjust to a normal home environment. During decompression, we provide a quiet, safe space with minimal demands, allowing the dog to explore at their own pace. This crucial time helps reduce stress and build trust, setting the foundation for rehabilitation and a successful integration into a new life.

𝐒𝐖𝐄𝐄𝐓 𝐒𝐈𝐒𝐒𝐘 𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄, 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐔𝐑𝐆𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐂𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐍𝐄𝐄𝐃𝐄𝐃 𝐒𝐔𝐏𝐏𝐋𝐈𝐄𝐒

Remember Sissy, the sweet Bichon rescued from a hoarding house?

When she was found, she was covered in f***l matter, her frail body suffered from urine scald, and fleas infested her fur.

Sissy has trouble standing and walking due to spinal issues and because she languished neglected for so long with her back legs stuck under her body. Thanks to the donations we've received so far, she is on medication and getting stronger every day.
We are also hoping to get her a wheelchair to help her further if we can find a connection to obtain one affordably.

Although we are working optimistically to improve her very limited mobility and other many issues, she’s 14+ years old and very compromised. Our most important job now is to make Sissy as comfortable as possible.

Despite such a rough past, she is the sweetest, and Sissy's story is now one of love and comforting care.

In her foster home, Sissy is finally experiencing the kindness she deserves. Every day, she's surrounded by warmth, gentle medical attention, and endless affection. Her foster family ensures she knows nothing but love as she lives out her twilight days in safety. Sissy's difficult but brave journey reminds us of the resilience of animals and the importance of rescue and foster programs to catch those in need before they fall.

Sissy is living proof that every creature deserves dignity and love, and especially in their last chapters.

Guardians is the only organization that was willing to take Sissy in, due to the level of care her many conditions requires. Guardians knew we could say YES to her because of our army of caring people who always come the aid of these special animals in exceptional need.

Sissy will live out the rest of her in Guardians' tender care, and we need many supplies to keep her as happy and comfortable as possible. If you would like to help this brave little girl, you can do that by sending her an item from her wish list. These supplies all help to care for Sissy and her many needs, and we are so grateful for any help for this sweetheart.

𝐀 𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐘 𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐄𝐄 𝐒𝐈𝐗 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐔𝐒 𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄—𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐇𝐎𝐖 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐂𝐀𝐍 𝐇𝐄𝐋𝐏 𝐓𝐎𝐃𝐀𝐘

We have had a lot of people asking about adopting the chihuahuas from our recent case, but we want to explain further that these victims of neglect will not be ready to be placed into homes for a long while.

Imagine a life crammed into a space with dozens of other animals, the air thick with the stench of neglect, and every day a struggle for survival. This is the reality for many dogs rescued from hoarding situations. These dogs are often profoundly traumatized, their spirits broken by the conditions they've endured. They're terrified, untouchable, and overwhelmed by the simplest things.

When these dogs are rescued, they need a quiet, safe space to decompress. No forced interactions, no loud noises, just time to adjust and realize they're finally safe. Building trust takes immense patience. It's about showing them, through gentle actions and consistent care, that humans can be kind. It's a long journey, but every small step forward—a tentative sniff, a relaxed posture—is a victory. These dogs deserve a chance to heal.

Right now we need your help with supplies, which are used up fast! . Here is the little guys' Amazon wish list, if you would like to help by purchasing an item from the list, we would appreciate it and so would the dogs!

https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/3DSZU1O5FY4NJ?ref_=wl_share

Thanks again to all those who were willing to share their homes and lives with these little dogs, but we promise that when the time is right, they will have all that. In the meantime, there are so many wonderful homeless dogs and cats in shelters and rescues everywhere, and there is one—or more— waiting for you right now!

Everyone is asking us about the Tennessee Six, the unforgiveably-neglected chihuahuas we just urgently took in for medical care and foster.

The situation is even worse than we first thought.

These chihuahuas have endured severe neglect, leaving them with severe skin issues, overgrown nails, and urine scald on their paws. Their fear of human touch is a clear sign of past trauma. Handling these scared little ones to help them is a challenge. Your heart goes out to them.

Adding to their distress, they are infested with internal parasites and fleas, and ticks, all of these conditions are requiring immediate medical attention.

These dogs break your heart—for example, LaBitty, one of the two females who we think may be pregnant is pitiful—her teeth are horrible and she is just so sad that it makes you want to cry.

Ziggy, one of the males is adorable, but so scared. What did someone do to make him so frightened? Ziggy has a terrible skin infection, and had to be shaved down to even have his skin treated.

And obviously, these suspected—or probable—pregnancies make matters even more difficult, complicating their care—they need extra support and a safe environment to deliver their puppies.

Our team and volunteers are working tirelessly to provide the necessary medical treatment, comfort, and care to ensure the well-being of both the mothers and their unborn pups, while also focusing on building trust and helping all the dogs heal emotionally. We are heaping all the love on them that they never got before.

We are totally committed to giving these dogs their best chance at happy, healthy new lives but there is so much work ahead, and it strains our financial resources, as anyone with a pet knows.

If you are able to chip in to care for the tiny Tennessee Six, no amount is too small.

(a little) X (a lot of people) = a lot!

𝐆𝐔𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐈𝐀𝐍𝐒 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐘 𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐄𝐄 𝟔
(They are not available for adoption, thanks to those asking!)

We need your help today with some tiny neglected dogs we just rescued from a terrible situation.

Imagine this scene of utter despair:

Chihuahuas, covered in fleas and ants, trapped in a dilapidated house in rural Tennessee, their tiny bodies wading through layers of f***s and urine. The air is thick with the stinging scent of ammonia, a toxic environment that threatens their fragile health.

These aren't just unpleasant conditions—this is severe neglect, total indifference to the care these animals need and deserve, and a complete betrayal of the responsibility of any dog caretaker.

In such toxic environments, dogs face a multitude of dangers. The ammonia fumes can cause respiratory problems and burn their delicate skin and eyes. Living in their own waste leads to infections, parasites, and a host of other health issues. The lack of clean water and proper nutrition only compounds their suffering, leaving them weak and vulnerable.

Saving these Chihuahuas is a race against time. They need immediate medical attention, a clean and safe environment, and plenty of love and care to begin their long road to recovery. It's a reminder of the importance of spay and neuter, responsible pet ownership and the urgent need to combat animal cruelty in all its forms.

The owners were charged , and we'll update you when we can on the dogs and the legal case.

Right now, we really need help with the medical expenses to get them healthy and happy.

Everyone is asking about little Tesha, the 6-week-old puppy who was horribly burned.

Under Guardians watch and with lots of intensive veterinary care, Tesha is healing slowly. Anti-inflammatories, pain medication and antibiotics, plus twice- daily sliver salve treatments are starting to pay off!

Today, Tesha got her surgical suit, which means NO MORE CONE!!! She is a much happier little pup.

Brave little Tesha has lots of healing ahead, and is not out of the woods by any means, but this is a huge step in the right direction!

And you will be pleased to know that two people have been charged with aggravated animal cruelty and false report of a crime.

Stay tuned for updates on the healing and legal fronts.

Everyone is very concerned and asking to know how little Tesha is doing. This is our report on Tesha's condition on Day 4.

Tesha had her second sedated bandage change and wound cleaning. This brave little puppy has been transported to a higher level of care facility for further assessment and a treatment plan.

We still don't know what surgery is needed or even possible, but the vet expenses are piling up.

𝐌𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐒𝐔𝐑𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝟒𝐓𝐇 𝐈𝐒 𝐀 𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐘 𝐇𝐎𝐋𝐈𝐃𝐀𝐘

Tomorrow can be a lot of fun, but we are reminded that more pets go missing July 4-6 than any other time of year. Although some cats retreat from the scary noises, it is primarily dogs who fall victim, and Animal Control officials across the nation report a 30% to 60% increase in lost pets each year between those dates.

Although on a holiday, fireworks are the obvious culprit, dogs are frightened and run away from other loud noises, like thunderstorms, so the problem is year-round to that extent.

To protect your animal companion on tomorrow's big holiday, try to keep your dog indoors, ideally with someone at home with him or her. Mask the fireworks sounds as much as possible by closing windows, playing music or turning on the TV. Also keep your dog leashed when going out for walks, to avoid any startled escapes.

And perhaps most importantly, to prepare for the worst-case scenario, make sure your dog wears ID.

Even if your dog is chipped, an ID tag on his or her collar is the fastest way for someone who finds your dog to get in touch and get your dog home quickly. Not everyone is knowledgeable enough to suspect that a collarless dog has a microchip, and even if they do, they must find someone or somewhere to have the dog scanned, and not everyone is able or willing to take on this extended task. But almost everyone has a phone with them, and a phone number on a tag can be a quick ticket to a happy reunion.

As always, prevention is the best cure. Keep an extra-tight watch on your animal family during the noisy festivities, and that will make sure it truly is a Happy Holiday.

Together we save them and keep them safe,
Guardians of Rescue

We need your help now, and you'll see why...

It's hard to know where to begin telling you this, but here goes—

This difficult and sad story begins with a call to the police in rural Georgia about a puppy who the caller thought had been stabbed.

Guardians was called in and discovered a 6-week old puppy, since named Tesha by one of her vet techs, in agonizing pain and distress from a severe but puzzling injury to her hindquarters.

After intensive examination, running through the possible explanations for the injury including stabbing, a dog attack or contact with a caustic chemical, it was determined to be thermal burning, covering much more than her hindquarters—clearing the way for a closer look we could see that the burns went all the way from the base of the puppy's neck to her tail.

Her flesh looked as if it had been cooked...that is a terrible kind of pain...

Even with pain medication the frightened little dog could not even tolerate a gentle rub on the head. Can you imagine this being done to a little puppy? This is now an active cruelty case—even the police officers are incensed at this horrifically painful abuse of a baby dog.

After 5 days in the local veterinary ER, Tesha is being transferred to a more advanced vet hospital, and then will head to an out-of-state specialty practice to examine the possibility of skin grafts. There is no guarantee that this will be possible, due to Tesha's early stage of development, where her tissue may not regrow in the right way for proper healing. But if you were able to look into her eyes, you'd know we have to give her every chance.

This is a long haul, and a gamble—but we look at poor Tesha and there is no way we care not going to try—EVERYTHING—to help her recover. If it doesn't work—it's much too soon to think that way.

We have to give her every chance, and we knew you would want us to.

If you looked into her pained but hopeful eyes, you'd move mountains to end her pain and make her a happy dog with a long life ahead of her.

It will take the medical equivalent of moving mountains to help her, and it will be expensive. we can't do it without the help of many people who are just as determined to help this innocent puppy fight her way back.

Can you please chip in to get Tesha through the extensive treatment and care she will need to really live again? Every dollar counts, and if enough caring people give a little, it will turn in to a lot—but can you imagine the joy we'll all feel to see Tesha pain-free and living a happy dog life?

Tesha will likely always bear the proof of her ordeal on her back, but it will also be a symbol of her courage and will, and of the many friends she will never meet but who helped to erase her suffering and make possible her recovery.

This was hard to write, and it's hard to ask for help—but can you imagine how hard it is for Tesha to live it?

Thank you for being on Team Tesha and helping this innocent puppy in her time of extreme need.

Together we save them,
Guardians of Rescue
