This.
This right here is a part of why I started The Re-HATCH. The world has so little knowledge on not only snakes, but all reptiles and even exotics in general. And while yes, they may not be for everybody, a dog person wouldnt go around saying all cats are horrible and should be left out in the wild. And if they did, they'd be shamed and called out... however to say that "the only good snake is a dead one with no head" is such a typical thing to hear when working with reptiles (which is one of many I have personally heard).
I someday would love to be able to do reptile education programs, even small, local events or parties, just to be able to do a small part in trying to make people see that while they may look scary sometimes - similar to people you should never judge a book by its cover, or by what others tell you. Because once you open that cover and read it for yourself, you may find that you quite enjoy that book. Not everybody has the same mind, so sometimes it's good to think about what you hear and RESPONSIBLY and RESPECTFULLY challenge those ideas.

“Wait, you got a dog? Why?”
“Eww a cat, will it bite me?”
“Gross keep that bunny away from me!”
“I’m worried about you, getting a dog is crazy.”
“You better not release your kitten into the wild when you get tired of it and decide you don’t want to feed it anymore!!!”
“A bunny? What’s wrong with you?😳”

Obviously that all sounds ridiculous. But those are the kinds of things I hear when I talk about my babies. Wouldn’t you be upset if I commented things like that on a post you made about your new dog? I love my snakes and my rats just as much as I love my cat and my dog. When it comes to hating on people’s pets that they care about, it might be a better idea to just keep scrolling. Or maybe instead of commenting how much you dislike them, pm me about wanting to meet them and overcoming that fear and negative stigma. I’d love to help you change your outlook on exotic and unusual pets! My babies are so sweet, I know you’d love them!

Edit: go follow my babies on Instagram if you need more reasons to love them .scales.exotics💖

** This is just a quick note that due to the current state of emergency and situation regarding COVID-19, All adoptions will be closed until further notice. I'm not going to put others at risk and ultimately the animals as I'm sole caretaker and cant afford to be bed ridden. I also like for the adopter to be able to meet the reptile first to be sure they are prepared, and unfortunately at this time that is just not doable.

I will update when adoptions reopen, as of right now our mission is to keep everyone healthy and safe! Please follow your local recommendations, and stay home unless its essential!

Hey everyone!
Here is a little more information on me and what my goals are for this rescue!

To start off, my name is Breanna and I am a young woman born into a family of avid animal lovers! Growing up, I had lots of exposure to all sorts of animals, in various ways! My mother has been involved in animal rescue for all of my life, currently being the chairperson of a feline trap, neuter and return program here in Sussex. I have plenty of experience in the rescue setting, including common medication and treating basic illnesses. I am attending Oulton college for veterinary technician, and hope to someday work in a clinic specializing on exotics and reptiles.

I currently have an array of personal scaled friends, all in great health and happiness!
It was a dream of mine to open a reptile rescue and rehabilitation program - where I could take in reptiles that are looking for homes and help them! Animals that are sick or have had rough pasts, I plan to work with and treat with vet care, as well as isolated one on one time. We also take in and provide shelter to any reptiles that need a new home because of owners moving, or work and life changes that can happen to anyone! Once an animal is ensured healthy, they will be rehomed for a small adoption fee (as donation to aid in vet visits and supplies) to approved homes where they can live to their full potential!

I'm hoping this will reduce the amount of reptiles bought from chain stores and off kijiji by people making rash decisions without much background knowledge. I also hope to create "starter kits" that are much more accurate and money-saving than the retail store kits. Any donations of tanks and supplies, after setup, will go towards these!

I also wish to offer reptile boarding or sitting services in the future as well, and we can offer help to those looking to rehoming reptiles!

The only real profit that comes from this is giving a voice to the animals so many people misunderstand and overlook, and providing them with access to homes with proper care, and that's all I want!

To provide care to sick or injured reptiles, work with those who need taming or have had rough pasts, and shelter reptiles who urgently need a place to stay, adopting them out to loving homes!
