It symbolizes the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. During the climactic celebration revelers adorn themselves in their finest clothes,, they illuminate their homes and offer Puja (praise) to Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity.

As a rule, businesses are encouraged to avoid political and religious discussions, but we think any time we can celebrate victory over evil and knowledge over ignorance we should.
