Doc and Gunther have been with us since May. Their hard work this summer paid off with two Prize one Natural Ability passes!
It was the year of the Small Munsterlander, and we expect nothing but the best out of these dogs.

Eric Mckillips is a humble guy, so I’ll brag his dog for him.
Eric and Dude have been a great team since day one. They entered the NAVHDA Utility test on a weeks notice and really showed what they are capable of. At the young age of 11 months Dude and Eric earned a PRIZE 1!!
I cannot express how proud I am of this guy and his pup. I’m grateful to have puppy owners that become friends and love their dogs as much as I do. Can’t wait to see this team succeed in the rest of their journey through the German system!

Put this duck out and it got away the other day. Agnarr the duck searching machine found it today. Saved me about $30.

Eloise vom Tundramoor, Agatha v.d. Skjaldborg, and Agnarr v.d. Skjaldborg had some great HZP prep today. Everyone had excellent duck searches, drags, and blind retrieves.
Edda vom Borealen was standing by, being the world champion of tortilla chip balancing.

Agatha v.d. Skjaldborg takes after her mother when it comes to her affinity lounge time, but she’s always ready to roll when you need her.
William Burns sent me a special present the other day. A relation to Sam. The terrier I grew to love and the dog that helped me through my first guide season.
I call her Bonnet. She completes my Jagdterrier duo, in fact she completes my pack of dogs at lucky number 7, as I’ve promised myself I will not take on another until one of them passes. Together the duo is BlueBonnet. Named after the character played by Robert Duvall in the movie Open Range. Or the Texas state flower, the state where both dogs were born.
Lots of fun to be had in the future with a crew full of heathens. Fur and feather near and far will know Blue and Bonnet well.

I am excited to announce this planned breeding. This is something Edda and I have been working towards for 4 years.
This litter is special. A performance breeding to place these pups amongst the elite. Both parents have earned a prize one VGP and are sichaut (sightloud) which is a very important manner of hunting for both big and small game. Both have also earned very high scores in duck search, making them some of the best duck dogs in the country.
I expect Edda to cycle early this summer.

Folded Wing Kennels is hosting a Trained retrieve course in Soldotna and there are still a few slots available. We are also considering an online course for handlers outside of the state of Alaska.
The number one thing a hunting dog should be able to do is effectively recover dead and wounded game. With untrained dogs, hunters run the risk of wasting game that otherwise would be recovered.
All hunters should strive to be ethical and make use of all harvested animals both furred and feathered. If you have a hunting dog this class is for you.
In this 6 week course your dog will become a retrieving machine. You and your dog will learn how to efficiently and reliably retrieve to hand anything that is before them.
Your trainer is Elijah Barbour of Folded Wing Kennels. Elijah grew up with hunting dogs and spends most days in the field with his dogs. He has spent the last 4 years training hunting dogs professionally and has taken dogs to the highest levels of both NAVHDA and the JGHV testing systems. He will guide you through the 6 week program and tailor his method to your dog individually.

In about 2 weeks time Bri and I will be making our way back up to Alaska. We have plenty of empty dog boxes if anyone needs a pup or dog transported along our route.
Leaving from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and ending in North Western Montana before crossing into Canada.
I’ve been thinking about putting together another trained retrieve course since last years highly successful class, and I’m finally ready to commit again. Join me and 6 other dogs on a six week journey to become master retrievers. We will cover all the bases from holding bumpers to actively retrieving real birds and game.
The course will be held in Soldotna and start around the 15th of April. Message me or give a call to reserve your spot. If all slots are filled I will consider opening another course.

Today was a long and good day with German versatile hunting dogs.
Edda vom Borealen and Eloise vom Tundramoor both successfully completed the BTR which is a special retrieving reliability test. Furred game is placed in a large section of woods so that the dogs can not track into the game and aged for at least two hours. The dog has 20 minutes to find and retrieve the game.
Edda and her daughter, Agatha v.d. Skjaldborg were both presented opportunities on rabbits and both dogs were marked Sichtlaut (sight loud). This means Edda’s next breeding can be classified amongst the elite and called a performance breeding within our German breed club. It also qualifies both dogs to participate in the 20 hour and 40 hour aged blood tracking tests. The achievement of my dogs being marked loud is a very important milestone for me.
Also I got word that Agol v.d. Skjaldborg was also marked loud. This makes all three pups out of my A litter that tested this weekend and their mother sight loud.
Thanks to the VDD-GNA Big Rivers Chapter and their Chairman Brandt Hardy for taking me in, letting me apprentice judge their test, and run multiple of my dogs in various scenarios. Great people and dogs. This is why the VDD is king.

Ian Wisecarver and his dog Agol v.d. Skjaldborg earned a solid 69 with an 11 in pointing.
To top off the day Brett Faucett and his dog Asta v.d. Skjaldborg earned the high score of the day with a 72. Asta also got marked sight loud, which is a very sought after achievement for these dogs.

Agatha v.d. Skjaldborg put on a show today for a few lucky clients. I don’t hunt her much as a guide dog since there’s now way to keep her rewards/discipline constant when it’s my job to make sure clients are shooting birds. But today with a few A team dogs out with injuries, I had nothing to lose.
She pointed 50+ birds in 3 hours, retrieved over half, and stood for a flushing dog. To say I’m proud is an understatement.
She is 6 months old.
Dean slid in to this point so hard his shoulder almost popped out of place. He’s an old and experienced dog with a few quirks. But he’s always on.

We are pretty stoked about our new flight pen and so are the Chukar and Quail! 125 birds seems like a lot less in this bigger space!

Along with our Trained Retrieve Class partnered with Northern Lights NAVHDA, handler @jaysjogren and Penny the Pudelpointer have been coming on Monday nights due to Jay’s work schedule. Penny is an experienced hunter and Jay gets her out often. Her experience is highlighted by her near effortless training and level head throughout this program. She is a happy, intelligent dog and always a joy to work with. We will clean up her delivery and work some distance in the future. Good work Jay and Penny! It really is great to see handlers bond with their dogs by learning new things.

Big things come in small packages! Here is Pepper the Small Münsterlander living up to her name, building some spicy confidence with heavy weight. Some dogs take weeks to work up to the 10lb dumbbell, this is Pepper’s 3rd day on the table! She’s a rockstar!
