Huge thank you to Kaytlin Winkels Photography for these candids from our UKC shows in WI earlier in December! Win or lose, every moment we share in the ring together is so special to me.

Yesterday, we made the 8-hr drive to WI, so we could show today with a solid Silken entry, and Kimchi made sure we didn’t leave empty handed!

He showed beautifully for me in a very nice set of Silkens, many of whom were very deserving of the acknowledgment themselves, and we managed to walk away with Best of Breed both shows, as well as a Group 3 and a Group 2(out of 5!)(oh! and our first two Emerald GRCH legs!)

We had a lot of fun, and honestly went into the day just expecting to hang out with good friends and good dogs(and losing to handsome Astro in the Grand class), so it was a very pleasant surprise! Kimchi continues to give me his all in the ring, and we have a great time socializing(me, socializing. Kimchi, being a menace for food from everyone).

Ichor is defined as “the golden fluid that flows through the veins of gods”, specifically used in relation to Greek Mythology.

I chose this as my kennel name as I’ve been a fan of the legends of Greek Mythology since I was young, and it’s golden color was an easy tie-in to my Golden Boy! It was relevant to my interests, and a natural way to pay homage to a dog that has meant so much to me.

I have spent the last few days drafting up a piece of artwork that I felt represented my kennel well, both visually and symbolically!

I don’t want to write a book to explain every aspect of the drawing(I mean, I DO, but I’m reining it in😆), but every part of this was intentional, down to the location of the wound(a callback to the well-known legend of Achilles!). I wanted to show the hare being the one in true control within this power dynamic, and elevate it to a “godly” status, as the Hunt is completely up to it, and almost always results in the hound being the one thwarted!

It was a fun challenge incorporating blood without depicting too much gore, but I am happy with the result, and love that there can be so many subtle aspects to interpret within the image!

(although I admit the sword is mostly here for Cool Factor hehe)

Sorry if you’ve seen some variation of this post a couple different times already, I’m just trying to be better about posting show/sport results here on my kennel page! I’ll keep it brief, though.

Kimchi:
- Had very inconsistent running in the Field Cheater class. Saturday, he had great starts before he would leave to find a bush to p*e on or something spectacularly stupid. Sunday was ~better~ but still bad, and I’m honestly not super sure where he shook out on placements anywhere because he was really just there to Be Gay and Do Crimes apparently😂 He’ll be done with ASFA for the time being, and we’re going to shift our focus to other sports we enjoy instead, like flyball, confo, rally/ob, etc.!
-He was slipped by a junior all weekend, even for the walking starts on Sunday, and even if his runs weren’t great, I loved getting to see him just be an easy, steady presence for the Small Human, and hopefully help get someone new addicted to the sport!

Reaper:
-Had a ton of fantastic runs over the course of the weekend! Out of 12 Silkens, he took Best of Breed both Saturday and Sunday! This finished his Field Championship, and he earned his first points towards his LCM on Sunday as well! He ALSO had the huge accomplishment and honor of going Best in Field on Saturday! Which means he is now, pending confirmation:

BIF BIE U-CH Regalant Point of Inquiry GRC FCh

And, I am so proud of him! Both of these boys are so special, and I am so lucky to have them around.

This handsome guy is currently sitting at #10 in the UKC Standings for Silkens!!

I am so excited for him, and this accomplishment! I’d LOVE to end the year in the top 10, but we’ll just have to see what other shows we can get to and how they play out!

It’s a big deal for me considering our earlier struggles with his structure and showing, and he isn’t perfect by a long shot, but man, it’s a bit of a full circle moment for me!

He really is a dog that will do it all, happily, and every day I’m in awe we get to have this journey together!

I think that breeders should be thoroughly informed when it comes to understanding dog behavior AND health.

It is our responsibility, when we bring new lives into this world, to be properly educated on these aspects, as they directly correspond with temperament and longevity/overall health, and these are things that are largely genetic!

I don’t think anyone should be expected to be experts, unless it’s your profession, but you should at least have a solid grasp of both, so you can make informed decisions!

We have behavioral and medical professionals to lean on to bridge the gap in our knowledge, and we should absolutely be using those resources, but they’re also only so involved, so it’s OUR job to understand at least the basics!

Otherwise, we have clueless people breeding really concerning issues, and unsuspecting puppy homes inheriting bigger problems—not because information is intentionally withheld, but because the breeder was ignorant to the scope of the issue.

No one’s perfect, and we all have our weaknesses in different areas when it comes to this, but it’s hard seeing friends or enthusiastic new homes be burdened with issues that could have been prevented!

This last weekend, Kimchi and I popped over to the K9 Fanciers UKC Club show in Michigan on Saturday just for a quick trip to chase that pesky last leg he needs for his Grand Championship, and we had a great time! Kimchi was reserve CH both shows in a lovely Champion class, so no dice on that elusive leg, but it was still a fun trip for us! It was super hot and humid, but Kimchi showed like his usual rockstar self, so we still enjoyed ourselves quite a bit💛

We’ve wrapped up Kimchi’s first flyball tournament in Escanaba, MI this weekend, and he had GREAT fun!!

He was only entered in preflights, and we made some awesome progress! We’ve now added jumps and ball retrieves to his turns on the wallboard, so now we really just need to get him turning on the box, add in the rest of the jumps, and get him accustomed to passing other dogs! If I can continue to get him practicing consistently, he’ll be in the lanes doing full runs in no time !!

I’m so excited for his future in this sport, and I loved his engagement and enthusiasm throughout the weekend. He had a rough spot with a spot on the mat that smelled REALLY good, but we worked through it with minimal fuss!

This video is a bunch of clips for the highlights💛

Kimchi had another great weekend in the show ring, taking the CH class 2/3 shows he was in this weekend, and going BOB and Group 2 today! all of his competition was lovely and way more deserving of the recognition, but he showed beautifully for me, and we had fun! We were in great company, per usual, and it was nice to see the wins so nicely distributed! Keem is now one leg away from his Grand!

I didn’t take a single picture of him all weekend lol so enjoy an older one from a prior show this year haha

I was the event photographer for a FastCAT this weekend, and the club was gracious enough to let me run both boys in fun runs!

Reaper clocked 29.65mph his first run, and 30.62 his second!

Kimchi managed a 28.75, and I only ran him the once.

We don't often get times, so every opportunity is exciting, and I feel pretty confident Reaper could hit 31mph sooner rather than later! Kimchi has clocked 29mph at another event, and I would guess that to be pretty much where he averages, sp*ed-wise! Sp*edy boys!
