✨Rider spotlight of the month✨

Kate

I have been riding since I was about 7-8 years old when I went to my friends house for a sleepover and she had a riding lesson. I immediately had to have a lesson too!! I got Jade, my current horse, as a free horse from my trainer when I was 15. She was intended for a lesson horse but was far too young and green so I got her. She has done a little bit of everything with me: western, trail, jumping, English, speed. She’s done it all. She’s even survived Strangles and getting some serious leg injuries. Jade is now retired and we just go for trail rides. While I had Jade, I showed a horse named Peanut for my high school equestrian team and we did a little bit of everything. I went to Meredith Manor, studied riding and got my certification in 2013. I haven’t done much riding in the last 8-10 years until this year. I started riding and working again at Milestone Farm and have been riding Delilah for a few months now. I am enjoying getting back into riding so much and it has made me so happy!

✨Rider spotlight of the month✨

Courtney

I wanted to start riding horses at the age of 5, but my mom told me I had to be 7 years old in hopes that it would be a phase and I would forget about lessons. The day I turned 7, I told my mom I could now ride horses! My parents acquitted and soon found a barn where I took lessons on a small gray pony named Lightning. A few years later, I began taking lessons with Dallas Bradbury at a farm near Chelsea, MI. Soon after, I got my first horse, a bay Appendix Quarter horse named Tempest. At the time, I was in Pony Club and attending rallies, but it quickly became apparent Tempest was ring sour, and we decided to rehome her with someone who loved her and wanted to trail ride. I became a working student at a barn, where I found my next horse. An OTTB named Tia whom I hoped to event and show dressage. Two days after acquiring Tia, she stepped on a nail and spent 10 days at MSU. After much rehab, Tia made a full recovery, and I owned her for nearly 15 years. Shortly before moving to Kalamazoo, I acquired another OTTB named Maestro, who I worked with until selling him to a young event rider. After losing Tia in 2019, I took several years off from riding. However, the horse bug became too much and I started looking for barns in 2023 where I found Milestone Farm and started lessoning with Kim Sullivan. I’m now leasing Rummy, an awesome schoolmaster, to get back in the swing of things and rediscover my love for dressage. We’re excited to compete in our second show of the summer at Waterloo this month!

Good luck to all our riders headed down to compete at IEA!

✨Rider spotlight of the month✨

Tara

Tara discovered her love of horses at summer camp in 3rd grade, and then rode at Fleetwood Manor until college. During college she ran the equestrian barn at Sherman Lake YMCA teaching kids how to ride and discover their own passions for horses. After college she started riding at a hunter jumper barn and purchased her first horse Xtreme. Tara always had a passion for dressage and eventually changed disciplines focusing on dressage until the unexpected death of Xtreme in 2012. After taking a 10-year break, she found Milestone Farm and started riding again, leasing Porter and taking him to the 2023 Region 2 USDF Championships. In the fall Tara found her dance partner, Vincenzo and is excited to see what they can accomplish together.

We have 4 stalls and a few small turn outs available for temporary use if anyone needs help from any storm damage in the Portage/Kalamazoo area!

Well that was a little nuts... Fortunately, we were pretty lucky with this series of tornadoes that passed by the farm. All people, horses, and other animals are doing well, but it will take some clean up to get things back in order. Neighbors close by might not be as lucky. Thoughts go out to all who have lost homes a businesses during this storm.

✨Rider spotlight of the month✨

Megan

Megan started riding when she was 5 years old out at a barn in Schoolcraft, MI. At age 10, her parents realized horses weren’t just a phase and they put up a barn which lead to her first horse, a little paint mare named Annie whom she used for 4-h.
Eventually she started taking lessons out at Sterling Acres where she began to take riding more seriously. In the spring of 2020 after outgrowing Annie, she purchased Corbin to be her show horse. Her plans were to just use him in Dressage and for the Highschool Equestrian teams until she spent the summer tagging along with a friend to her eventing shows. This is where she became hooked on eventing. Unfortunately, plans with Corbin were halted when he began battling some health issues with EPM. In the meantime, Megan competed on Cedar Lodges IEA team and went to Dressage Nationals. She was also fortunate enough that the Cannizzaro family let her use their horse Kimmy who helped show her the ropes of the eventing. Eventually, Corbin’s health had improved enough to where Megan and Corbin were able to enjoy competing and training together again in the world of eventing.
