Thank you for the support! We're so proud that Bill, representing both WPS Reptiles and Badgerland Reptile Rescue, took 3rd place in Snake Discovery: Reptile Store & Zoo's Enclosure Build-off Championship!!!

A huge congrats also goes out to Tyler Rugge & Maddie Smith of Celestial Exotics and Chris & Casey Leone of Garden State Tortoise. This was an awesome competition and we have had a blast getting to know all of our other contestants over the past two weeks.

🎉 ADOPT PERDITA! 🦎

Perdita is an adult female leopard gecko. She has been in a foster home with kids, and we think she would do well in a home with children ages 8+. She tolerates handling and has a wonderful, sweet personality!

Bane is a normal Ball Python. He eats F/T small rats and tolerates being handled well. We believe Bane would do well in a household with children ages 10 and up.

THE SECRET'S OUT!!! 👀

For those of you following the Snake Discovery: Reptile Store & Zoo 2024 Enclosure Build-Off Championship, we are excited to OFFICIALLY confirm that Bill created Enclosure #8, the "Princess Mononoke" themed enclosure!!!

This 6x2 enclosure from Custom Reptile Habitats was designed with a skink species in mind and features a variety of climbing opportunities and hiding spots to support natural behaviors. Bill's personal item was the glow-in-the-dark kodomas that were hot glued to a string of fairy lights (note: this took some trial & error to get them attached correctly!) and then adhered to the branches. Additionally, the enclosure is fully bioactive with live plants and a cleanup crew of isopods!

Our video is still coming soon - we're just putting the finishing touches on it! - but since others have seen the (awesome) videos from our fellow contestants, we wanted to showcase our build here!

Voting for the build-off continues through Sunday, August 18, and we'll drop details below!!! 😀

🎉 ADOPT SPEEDY! 🐍

Speedy the corn snake is up for adoption! He’s doing very well on F/T and never skips a meal. He’s a very explorative snake, spending most of his time climbing on branches, making tunnels, and burrowing in his substrate. He’s very handleable yet active and lively when out of his enclosure. He’s an adorable little guy looking for his forever home.

Speedy is currently being fostered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

That’s a wrap for the Snake Discovery: Reptile Store & Zoo 2024 Enclosure Build-off Championship!!! Don’t worry, we’re not sharing any spoilers, but you will definitely want to watch this - all ten contestants are beyond talented, and the enclosures are absolutely incredible. Plus there’s some pretty cool surprises involved this year 😉

Sarah and Bill are currently making the 5 hour drive back to Kenosha. If you have not been to Snake Discovery’s Zoo in Minnesota, it is totally worth a trip. We cannot thank Emily and Ed enough for their hospitality these last few days. It also wonderful to hang out with our fellow contestants.

And as a bonus, we have an extra friend joining us on the drive home… Badgerland Reptile Rescue’s newest educational ambassador, Kilo the Blue Tongue Skink from Snake Discovery’s Adoption Island! Kilo does great with being handled, so you can plan on meeting him at events in the future, once he is all settled in 🩵

Seri Dukart is an incredible reptile keeper & the owner of Creature Care Cards + Gallery Gekko. You may recognize her from reptile shows, which she often attends with Maxx, her hearing alert Cardigan Welsh Corgi - at this past NARBC Schaumburg, Badgerland Reptile Rescue was lucky enough to have Seri & Maxx hang out with us for a bit on Sunday at our booth 😀

Seri is currently facing major surgery to help alleviate some ongoing health issues, which will put her out of work for several months to recover. We want Seri to feel 100% as quickly as possible, which means she needs to raise some funds for business expenses, personal living expenses, travel expenses related to medical appointments, and boarding/care costs for her (absolutely adorable) menagerie of corgis and other pets.

Weatherly, Pennsylvania’s Borough Council has recently proposed an amended ordinance that would restrict the possession of “wild, exotic and farm animals” within the borough. For exotic animal species, specifically, the ordinance would restrict ownership to zoos, veterinary clinics, humane societies, circuses, sideshows, amusement shows, and facilities used for science and/or education; the ordinance would also specify requirements to caging that would prevent animals escaping. Currently, it appears there have been no updates regarding this ordinance beyond its initial proposition to the Borough Council, but USARK - United States Association of Reptile Keepers will continue to monitor its development.
