IT'S BEEN 5 YEARS SINCE .....
The information of Ding Dang crying in excruciating pain beneath a block of apartments went viral on Chinese social media. By the time she was found again, she was seen dragging herself with her front legs around a factory area. On 2017-08-20, the 7-month-old, semi-paralyzed girl in skin and bones was rescued by the National Animal Protection Team.
From diagnosis, it was believed that Ding Dang was struck with a heavy blow on her back causing the paralysis of her hind legs. Because her injury was left untreated for too long, the damage to the nerves became permanent and untreatable. Ding Dang remained in the hospital for a long while where she was caged for hours daily because she couldn't find anyone with the means to take care of her. She was later sent to a foster (in China) who couldn't afford the time for a special needs dog. We thought this would be the fate of Ding Dang until .....
On 12 Aug 2018, Ding Dang got adopted to the US. Look at Ding Dang now! Thank you so much, Stacy!
Please help us to sign this petition against the new animal ban.
https://action.animaljustice.ca/page/108873/petition/1?ea.tracking.id=u4nbdk2t
If this ban is upheld, it could mean a life of suffering and danger for dogs who would otherwise have found loving homes in Canada.

❓Why are we hopeful about Yulin and the trade❓
So, if the dog meat festival still happened this year despite China's strict lock-down, zero-case policy, "what gives us hope that this festival and the trade will ever end?", some of you asked.
If you had met the brave young Chinese activists who went to Yulin to protest in front of the Yulin city hall (which is a very risky activity and can easily result in jail time in China) or you heard Mr. Yu's story (blue shirt in the photo below) who intercepted the dog trucks, you would be as confident and as hopeful as we are that this cruel festival and trade will end.
"I grew up with my beloved dog, Fi Fi, who was lost to the meat trade. Rescuing these dogs feels like revenge for what happened to her." This is what Mr.Yu told Andrea Gung, our Executive Director, in 2017 when he was asked how he was so brave to stop the truck and climb up to rescue dogs.
We have come too far and accomplished too much to feel despair and give up. There is no time for regret or surrender. Our best friends are depending on us and waiting for us.

Together, we will end the cruel festival and trade - it's just a matter of time!

While this may be just another story about animal cruelty. It's our Founder, Andrea Gung's testimonial to why Duo Duo Project was started...
The nature of a dog is to bark when they see a stranger. For anyone who has ever visited a dog shelter, they can attest to how loud it is with the constant barking. That's why I was stunned at the wall of silence that met me, at a slaughterhouse filled with dogs.
Instinct told them, anyone entering would be leaving with dead dogs. It would not play out like a scene at a pet adoption shelter of new owners, picking up their new pet.
I knew for 11 million dogs to be killed in China, to supply the dog meat needed for the delicacy food market, countless buyers had caused the silence of the dogs. Their fear was the only sound I heard. The vision of hundreds of dogs crammed into cages is still a vision I never can erase. But, I can ask for your help. Every click of like, new follower, or donation act as a form of support to Duo Duo Project to keep on fighting to rade in China! 💪
From this lot of dogs which arrived in Canada on 2022-03-16, 12 dogs were arranged by Cats & Dogs China for re-homing.

Cats & Dogs China has for a long time collaborated with an incredible charity based out of California that many of our followers may already know: Duo Duo Project. Duo Duo Project has, since 2013, been singly focused on ending the dog and cat meat trade in China. Run by volunteers from all corners of the globe and working with schools, lawyers, and youth activists in China, this organization has the know-how, the empathy, and the dedication to make lasting change on the ground in China through a combination of education, policy, and rescue-related support. Duo Duo Project not only supports local shelters, its multi-pronged approach to ending the dog-meat trade includes the creation of jobs for local women to leave the dog meat trade.
We are sharing this information with you now because Cats & Dogs China has selected Duo Duo Project as our fiscal sponsor and is now under their umbrella. Henceforth, we will be scaling down our post publications but will still continue to send dogs out of China for adoption and we are available intermittently to answer questions via pm here on our page. We have utter faith in Duo Duo Project's ability & commitment to helping cats & dogs in China and we urge all of our followers to also support them.

HE DODGED THE CULLING BUT WAS KNIFED IN THE HEAD
BeiBei was a stray dog who'd been very wary of humans, even keeping a distance from our Rescuers/Feeders who'd been feeding him. He disappeared during the major CULLING exercise in the area in June 2021 and reappeared weeks later with a NASTY BIG CUT on his head so the Rescuers/Feeders had to tranquilize him with darts to take him to the hospital.
BeiBei is now in our Rescuer's shelter in Sichuan, fully recovered and ready for adoption.

Most of these 40 potential meat dogs were saved from the streets in China but unfortunately, when the rescues took place, our rescuers were often alone hence unable to capture the sorrowful condition of the dogs. Each of these dogs has a sad story, most of which were posted here on our FB page. They were brought to the US in June 2021 despite the restrictions imposed by airlines during the pandemic. They have now blossomed into beautiful dogs in a place called home.
PROOF! BREEDERS DISCARDING DOGS TO THE MEAT TRADE This is proven yet again that majority of the PUREBRED DOGS from the MEAT TRUCKS are "discards" from BREEDERS! How will the DOG-MEAT TRADE be ended when these BREEDERS continue to contribute to the TRADE? DOP: May 2021 Location: Jiangsu
ELLA is still looking for a home! https://www.facebook.com/secondchancechina/posts/496049421745068 A quick recap: ELLA (阿黄) was left behind when her owners moved away and often seen WAILING near the home where she was brought up in, a 'home' where she should be loved and cherished! Instead, she had to be saved from the streets in Chengdu on the evening of 10-02-2020. Ella is good with people and other dogs and is potty-trained. She isn't very active and doesn't bark much but guards her food. Sesame & Almond still looking for their Adopter! The Mother & Son were rescued from a construction site in July 2020 where they were tied up to be fattened for slaughter in the Winter. We have no information on where and how the construction workers caught the dogs. When they were saved by the Rescuers, they were skin & bones. Because they are inseparable we had to look for an adopter who could take them in a pair. https://www.facebook.com/secondchancechina/posts/427090708640940 Mom Sesame is sweet-natured and docile. She forms strong attachment to people easily and gets along with other dogs. Almond is active, people & dog-friendly. However, as Almond was abused before he was rescued, he only feels secure when with his mom. Please share our posts to find them a home.
