As the Holidays come around - training sessions are filling up! Please be sure to let me know if you'd like to set one up.
This is a fantastic time for your pup to learn a "place" command so if you have any guests over they aren't waiting at the door to be your welcome committee. The place command gives them somewhere else to be so you can take coats, treats, and just greet your guests without having to worry about your pup jumping and knocking food or wine from your guests arms.
A place command is also great so when everyone is in the kitchen nibbling on snacks or when you're all at the table eating dinner your pup doesn't have to be under grammy waiting for scraps to fall.
We can schedule a one-on-one session ($50 for an hour) to go over "House Manners" which include; not jumping on guests or counters, place command, safe house zones for the pup while all the festivities take place, learning a "leave it" to avoid getting into wrapped presents or your beautifully decorated tree. All small things you don't necessarily think about UNTIL it's happening.
Send me a message if you'd like to set up a training session or if you have any questions about training in general for your pup. No pup is ever too old to learn some new tricks :)

Does your pup have a hard time walking on the leash? Or a harness?
•
•
Ruby is a very loving but scared of a new harness! She wasn’t walked much as a puppy so getting her on walks was a challenge. But working with her the last few weeks she’s been doing amazing!! She is using my favorite harness - the to help keep any tension off the neck. Front clip harnesses are amazing for dogs who pull a lot. It comes in various sizes as well! (Not an ad, just a plug for me) 🙃

Can’t believe Tucker is so big now!! Crazy that I had him for his board and train when he was a youngster. He’s 6 months now and still does amazing walking with his Harness! It’s the first harness I recommend to owners who have issues with their pulling on walks.
Does your pup struggle on walks? Or do you struggle to keep your pup calm and controlled? DM me to schedule a walking training session. And definitely try out this harness if you’re looking for one! 🐶

Big shoutout to Greg Hamilton at Indian Trail United Methodist Church for the mention at 23:00!
Greg and I were connected through a mutual friend. On Friday afternoon I met Mr. Hamilton at the church with his Mini Pin, Molly! Who is so very sweet and loves people. But sometimes she's not sure of new dogs. Hamiltons daughter was coming into town to stay with them during this time of quarantine and bringing their new 5 month puppy, Abbey!
The dogs have never met before and both owners were worried how Molly would react to a new dog in her home. So they reached out and I was able to meet them for the introduction to help them introduce the dogs correctly and in a fun but safe way.
We met in a neutral setting so neither dog could be territorial and it was super controlled.
We had Molly walking around giving her treats a little before Abbey showed up so she was already focused on me more. And as Abbey approched Molly got reactive to another dog, which was expected. But as soon as Molly started reacting I quickly REDIRECTED her attention back to me with treats and as soon as she would calm down I'd praise her with love and treats as needed.
Once she calmed down, we'd repeat this and let Molly go up to Abbey and smell her and give him a little time, if she reacted, we'd redirect.
Abbey did amazing at staying calm and stationary with her owners and not trying to antagonize Molly too much but just enough.
This introduction took about 30 mins, maybe more. But we were able to get the dogs right next to each other without any issues. I did explain what the families should do when they get the pups home to keep them on leashes and let them explore the house and if treats trigger Molly, to give them in different areas, to give them breaks and separate them if needed, etc.
But it was amazing to see Molly go from reactive to not even caring about Abbey. And I checked in on them the next day to hear the pups were doing well and getting breaks as needed and adjusting. So grateful to help these two pups!

Had so much fun working with Remi for his first visit. Remi is having trouble staying calm when new people come over and wanting all of their attention. We worked on redirection to pull his focus back to the owners so he listens better and doesn’t feel a need to jump for attention.
We also worked with some basic commands; Sit and Stay - to learn patience opposed to his demand barking to get things he wants - even my treats!
I also went over with the owners some recall exercises to practice inside, outside, on walks, in the yard, or when Remi is being stubborn, etc. These exercises will help turn the tables on Remi’s “game” and take back control in the right way. By the end of the first session Remi has already made progress and with some consistency and positive reinforcement he’ll be better in no time!

One of the biggest "trends" in dog training, is also one of the biggest issues. E-Collars and Prong Collars - call them what you want, none of that is good for your dog.
From all the dog owners that message me, 80% ask this almost immediately, if not first. I understand numerous trainers believe these are the 'only way for your dog to behave and listen to you.' But these are also the best way to instill fear into your dog, rather than build a strong bonding relationship. If you wouldn't want to be shocked, why are you so willing to do it to your dog? Do you really want to carry that remote around 24/7? What if the battery dies?
I can't tell you how many times I get calls from owners saying "my dog went to this expensive board and train place and they used an e-collar (or prong collar) on our dog and now our dog is scared of everything, or has severe anxiety, etc." Or when I hear they behave so well now, but we got the dog home and have no idea how to use the collar the right way. Then you end up paying even more money for refresher classes. No thanks. Enough of this bad information....
Let's talk about Positive Reinforcement :)
I ONLY use Positive Reinforcement Recall training. It might not be the fastest approach for training, but is it the most effective. Even these horrible collars aren't an overnight fix, so why not use a positive approach while having fun with your pup?
I typically see results while training dogs with just one session. Part of the Positive Reinforcement Training is the owners to understand HOW to handle and be comfortable in ANY and EVERY situation with their dogs. I try to be as interactive with the dog and owners as possible. Doing a demo of something first while explaining how and why I'm doing it. Then having the owners go through it with their dog and I assist when needed.
How can you be prepared for something if you don't learn how to be? Don't worry, I'll help go through REAL LIFE situations. It's one thing for a dog to learn to Sit, and Stay inside a classroom, but what about at a public park where tons of distractions are present? Again, I've got you!
Have questions? Or would like to set up a dog training session? Feel free to message me or email me at [email protected]

Working on recall with dogs is so important if you want to take them anywhere and have them listen to you. As a trainer I always like to start off with dogs in their own home to work on recall and make sure they know how to listen and get them to do something perfect before adding in any harder elements.
This doodle has great recall inside the home and on walks. So I then take owners and their pups to public settings like Lowe’s and work on small things in empty isles. Or I’ll ask people shopping if they’ll just walk past the dog once we have them sit and stay so the dog learns to hold focus.
Lowe’s is super dog friendly and it’s great to take your dog there on rainy days to let them smell everything and interact with new people. Also great to work on any kind of training (basics, leash reactivity, introductions, recall, etc.)
(Not sure why the video saved to my phone without sound)

Anytime I set up a training session I always ask the owners if their pup has any allergies or dietary restrictions. I want to know beforehand if their pup can or can't have the treats I use. Or if they have a specific treat they like to use for their pup. But I always carry various types with me because some dogs do have allergies, but also because some dogs aren't motivated by the same treat!
What's in my bag of treats? See the list attached! All training treats are very low calorie, and I always tell my owners if they get worried about weight, on days you do a lot of training - just use a little less dog food during meal time to balance it out.
Each treat company has so many different flavors and dietary fixed treats as well.
*Helpful Hint* - if you're using any of the soft chew treats - rip them in half and use as two treats!

Every time I talk to an owner for the first time I can hear how overwhelmed they are and how much they just want help! I get it because I've been there right with them. I've sat on my couch attempting to watch a movie while my dog barked excessively at every leaf that blew by the window. And all I'd do was scream his name and tell him to stop or NO or whatever else we do when we're frustrated our dogs won't listen. I even tried a bark collar and e-collar - nothing worked!
I've been in your shoes. And that's a HUGE part of why I'm so passionate about training dogs - I love seeing something new CLICK for the dog AND the owner! I hear about so many different behavior issues or just little things dogs do to annoy their owners. The important thing to remember is that every BAD behavior, can be RESHAPED into a GOOD behavior!

Is training the new puppy a little harder than you thought? Are those puppy classes just not what you were looking for? Maybe you went to a board and train and haven’t kept up with it. Or maybe your four legged friend is 80% perfect and you just need some help for those little things. - You’ve come to the right place!
I absolutely LOVE training dogs for so many reasons. But the biggest reason is because I’ve been EXACTLY where all of my clients have been. I’ve adopted a puppy who was 8 weeks old and had to learn all about the razor blade teeth, the accidents in the house, teaching a dog to ask to go outside, crate training, leash handling, and everything in between.
I’ve had my pup grow up and learn to sit at the front window and bark NON-STOP with no way to control it or make it stop. I tried the bark collar, the e-collar, closing the blinds, etc. and none of it worked. Or when he would pull on his leash and try to drag me around on walks, I was so against using a harness until I learned how amazing they truly can be. I’ve had dogs in our family my entire life and we always love our furry family members. But we don’t always realize how much work a pet can be.
I’ve been there. So when I have a client call me for the first time saying their dog is so smart and so sweet, BUT he/she does x, y, and z. They have no idea how to fix it or how to control it. I always tell them “for starters, take a breathe! I know what you’re going through.” The behavior issues I hear from my clients are always similar in some way so I promise - you are not alone in your dog ownership struggles.
I would see people post questions on pages about their dog hating the crate, barking non stop, jumping on people, pulling on walks, etc. And I thought to myself, I can fix that for them, I can fix x, y, and z. It just takes A LOT of patience, practice, a positive attitude, and lots of love for your pup!
Positive Reinforcement Recall training for a dog has been so effective that even after one session with a dog, I already see improvement! There’s no better feeling when you train a dog and you can see them start to get it, you see it click in their brain! Plus when that happens the owners typically get super excited and shower their pup with love. It’s such a rewarding process, and it helps you bond even more with your pup!
Interested in scheduling an intro training with your four-legged family member? Shoot me a message and let’s get that 80% perfect to 100%!
