Mama Carol is ADOPTED! She moved to indoor life and never looked back. She is such a sweet girl and deserves to be spoiled, and she totally will be. She has a lovely new mom and will have a cat sister. Love seeing the mom cats go home! 🖤

Cindy and Oliver will try their luck at some adoption events tomorrow. We'll be at the Chadwick apartments tomorrow (Saturday) from 9am to 11am, come scoop them up! If that's not successful, they will move into Pet Supplies Plus - Leawood, KS!

Oliver is a precious, perfect boy! He is very social and outgoing. He loves people and likes to snuggle. When he gets sleepy, he finds the nearest lap or, if he can't find one, the softest blanket. He has the pinkest toe beans and the cutest little face. He is very playful and spends hours running and wrestling with his siblings and mom. He would do best with another cat or kitten to be his friend or a family who can give him a lot of attention. He is in foster with his sister Cindy and his mom Carol and he loves to play and snuggle with either of them, if you're looking for a pair! Oliver is 3 months old.

So many people don't want a black cat, because they think black cats are bad luck or just don't look fancy enough. ☹️

You're in luck, because mama Carol is here to tell you that she is NOT a black cat. She is a black and WHITE cat! Look at these pictures for proof. Look at those sprinkles of white hairs. She's practically a tuxedo cat! And lucky for you, she is also very fancy. Only the softest blankets, tallest cat trees, and brand-nameiest treats for her! (Okay this is not true, she sleeps anywhere and eats all manner of garbage treats but shh don't hurt her feelings)

I don't usually think my mama cats want to be adopted with one of their kittens, they're usually pretty over them. But I think mama Carol would love to stay with one of her babies in their forever home! She's a fun mom! She has blossomed in foster care. She might be a little shy for a day or two, but once she settles in, she loves petting, headbutts for attention, makes biscuits on all the soft blankets, and loves to play. She has a chirpy little meow and a soothing purr. She will definitely need a window to spy on the neighborhood and will want to investigate all your cabinets. She loves catnip toys and they make her act very silly. She is a fun and funny girl.

Carol loves to play with her last 2 kittens, Cindy and Oliver. They play chase around the house and love to hang out. She would do great adopted with either Cindy or Oliver (who will be available mid-June) if anyone is looking for a pair! Carol also gets along with other cats after an introduction period. 14 kittens dumped in a single tiny carrier 😭💔

🆘 WE NEED YOUR HELP! 🆘 We just took in 14 kittens found in a box in the IKEA parking garage. They are from multiple litters, and we estimate some to be a couple weeks old and others to be around seven weeks old. We need kitten wet food and we need bottle feeders! Who can help us out?

The babies are going home! Marcia and Jan went home together, Bobby got adopted, and Peter got adopted! Greg moved to a new foster for a little extra socialization. And mama and the two littles, Oliver and Cindy, will be here for a little while longer! Cindy and Oliver aren't big enough for surgery yet and mama Carol is recovering from a dental procedure. From 8 to 3, I'll take it. 🤣

Greg, Marcia, Jan, Peter, and Bobby are ready to start looking for adopters! They get spayed/neutered early next week and will be ready to go home after that. They are all very friendly, super playful kittens who would adjust well to pretty much any home and would do best either adopted with another kitten or to a home with another playful cat to be their friend. They all love people, attention and each other. (Cindy and Oliver are much smaller and will need more time in foster before they will be ready to look for adopters)

Greg is the wild child, always playing and always busy. Marcia and Peter are a little more shy at first but are sweet snugglers once they know you. Marcia is always mothering and grooming her little siblings and Peter loves to cuddle and play with them. Jan and Bobby are the cuddlers, they are always in a lap if one is available. Jan will be your little shadow and Bobby never met a shoulder he didn't want to climb. Melissa's Second Chances

The Brady Bunch kittens are getting big! I told them they were born as little street window-well kittens but I don't think they believed me. Mama is getting very interested in being away from them. Which is okay because they're all eating wet food and joined the one-pound club!

I broke a couple rescue rules this weekend!

Trapping cats in the spring is tricky because if you find kittens, there's almost no help because every rescue or shelter is full already. So you're on your own to figure it out. (If there are groups who do this better and with more support I'd love to hear about it) This weekend I trapped at a home with 8 cats in the yard, who had 6 or 8 litters of kittens last year. Most didn't make it. 😭

Rule 1 is leave a nursing feral mom alone and trap her for spay and the kitten for adoption when the babies are old enough to wean from her. This is the advice I'd always give about feral mom cats outside. This is a good rule! But after I trapped the last of 8 adults at this property I heard a LOUD kitten. This little boy maybe 5 days old was tucked away all by himself. I had already trapped all the adults and I didn't know which was mom. If I released the cats, I might never trap them again and then they wouldn't be spayed. 30 kittens probably died at this house last year and I could prevent that. So I went ahead and took all the adults to be spayed. I have some angel friends who bottle feed and one could take the baby! So I arranged that. Yay!

Rule 2 is that kittens always do better with mom. And they do! It's a good rule. After their spays, the vet could narrow down which cat had recently given birth. So do we reunite mom and baby? One foster was willing to try to reunite them and foster them together. But as we set it all up, it just didn't feel safe for mom. Fostering feral moms is a different kind of fostering and needs the right setup. She's not social and if she is too stressed inside, she won't care for the baby. And if she gets loose in a foster home, it's not good and won't help her or the baby. So we decided to release mom back to her yard and let the baby continue to be a bottle baby. It was the kindest decision for mom. And he's doing well!

I'm sure other rescuers would have done parts of this differently and would have made different choices. It was incredibly stressful and I had a couple meltdowns 🤣 But kittens will not die in this yard this year and desperate mom cats won't be forced to try to fend for themselves and their kittens. And baby is getting a chance! I feel good about it.

Meet Jelly Bean, another cat cafe refugee. He's Ghirardelli's brother. He was also very stressed and skittish at the cat cafe but has become a floppy purry boy in a quieter environment. He had a pretty gnarly upper respiratory infection and felt pretty crummy but he's on the mend. He ADORES other cats, like cries to meet them when he sees them even if they don't like him (as RBG knows). He is very playful and would be a wonderful cat pal for another young cat. He will need some patience while he settles into a new home but he's going to be such a good boy! 🍊🧡

The are somewhere between 5 and 7 weeks and doing great! Greg and Marcia are of course head of the class and eating wet food and kibble. Greg will be able to escape their enclosure soon, just like an eldest boy. Peter is chill and loves to nap and Jan is needy and loves to sit in laps. Bobby, Cindy and Cousin Oliver are still mostly nursing, but getting a bottle a few times a day and starting getting interested in wet food. Runty Cindy and Oliver are a fraction of the size of the others and a couple weeks behind in development but they're growing and active. Spencer is a sweet and fun girl who loves a lap! 🖤

Spencer is a chatty and chill girl looking for a lap to sit in. She may be 12 years old, but she is healthy and still has a lot of s***k. She will meow for attention and loves to hang out with people, but she's just as happy to occupy herself. She likes to play, especially likes catnip toys, which she hilariously rubs all over her face. Then she'll settle down for a nice, long nap, preferably in a lap or a high perch. She can live with other calm animals who don't bug her too much ... no puppies or kitten siblings for this girl!

This ginger chonky chonk is Zanahoria, or as we like to call him Big Z! 🍊 Big Z is orange and large and has never had a single thought in his whole life. His vibes, naturally, are immaculate and extremely ginger. He is so goofy and will make you laugh all day. He plays for exactly 3 seconds at a time, which is exactly how much cardio I also like to do. He stands with his paws in his water bowl for no reason. It's so orange. He loves food and treats, like obviously, which is relatable. Here's where I say he could stand to lose a couple pounds, but who's gonna throw the first stone here?

Big Z just wants to chill and hang with his people, on a couch or by a window. Once he knows you for 5 minutes, he wants to sleep in your lap. And trust me, your lap will be very weighted down so don't plan on getting up.

Kitten season is here. Meet the Brady Bunch! This tiny, tiny mama was found outside with SEVEN babies. Their finder took care of them for a little while and now they're here to grow big and get ready for adoption. The 4 big kids, Greg, Marcia, Peter and Jan, are healthy weights, have teeth, and are starting to use a litterbox and get interested in wet food. The smol babies, Bobby, Cindy and Cousin Oliver are a lot smaller and underdeveloped. Poor little Oliver is half the weight of his cousins Greg and Marcia! I'm supplementing the 3 smols with a bottle a few times a day and they seem to be doing well. Mama Carol just can't keep up. She was very nervous but she's settling in well. 🖤
