5 Tips To Improve Your Pups Diet ⠀
⠀⠀
1. Throw marketing to the wayside when it comes to nutrition. Read the label. It's as simple as that. The people who market the product are not the same people who formulated the mix. A marketer's job is to grab your attention not provide excellent nutrition for your dog. The ingredients list on the label will always list in the following order, largest amount to smallest. Take the top three to five ingredients and do a quick google search. Add in a phrase such as "good for dogs" after each. You'll be surprised at what you find.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
2. Introduce fresh whole foods to your dog's diet. Your dog is a living being, just like you and me. The vitamins, enzymes and other compounds in natural foods such as vegetables that we usually consume, can do wonders for your dog's health. Just as we are commonly told not to eat a diet filled with processed foods, neither should your pup.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
3. Avoid cooking meats. It may sound gross, but keep this in mind. All species on earth eat raw meat except for humans. Also, a host of the nutritional benefits found in meat are lost when the meat is subjected to high heat. ⠀
⠀⠀
4. Do not overfeed your dog and limit treats. We know, those puppy eyes are just too hard to resist, but a piece of cheese here and a biscuit there can lead to an overweight dog in no time. On the same line, limit your dog's meals. Some dogs may look "skinny" but this is just their natural, active body. Try splitting their total food intake into two equal meals. One in the morning and one at night. There is no magic number of meals. Just like us, dogs require a certain amount of calories based on size, activity levels and age.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
5. Try washing your dog's bowls with vinegar instead of dish soap. Vinegar is a chemical free alternative that becomes odorless and harmless when dry. Dish soap isn't going to necessarily hurt your pup, but if you accidentally miss some during the rinse, it can cause problems such as diarrhea.⠀

A common argument against using a for pets is that over time the pet will find ways to eat their meal just as fast as they had done in a regular bowl. It is true that they will learn to eat faster even with a slow feeder, but they will never reach the speed that was observed when using a regular bowl. If your or has gastrointestinal issues due to consuming their food too fast, a slow feeder can be a healthy alternative to a bowl.

Check out this clip from a study performed at Harper Adams University. The rate of consumption using the slow feeder does slowly increase, but it is still insignificant compared to a bowl.
