Happy Sunday 💜💫

I am wondering if anyone would be in a position to help out with donations this month.
I had an extremely expensive December due to aviary’s breaking & repairing them and all the extra food & bedding changes during the cold & wet spell.

This month isn’t much different, I have already spent £223 since the start of January and that’s just on a new enclosure & mats / beds for disabled & blind birds inside who cannot go in the aviary, woodchip for my woodie aviary and the chickens coop & 2 bags of seed.
I still have 2 aviary’s which need cleaning next week, so lots more woodchip to buy 🥲

Ive yet to do my bulk bird food buy, which is usually around 20 bags of pigeon seed at £25 each and £12 for the wild flock. Which is on average £350-400ish 🫠
Luckily when I do shout outs I always get a few bags which helps too 💜

I hate asking for donations as I know a lot of people are struggling, but I genuinely can’t afford this without the extra help and struggling to stay afloat 😓
This month alone I’m looking at around £700ish.
This winter has been an absolute nightmare so far, with flooding / rain saturating all of the woodchip so needed to do extra full cleans and aviary damage & extra food due to the cold temperatures.

I’ve seen so many other larger sanctuaries, struggling with water, flooding and damage and I’m so sorry to see it all, as I understand how difficult it really is and I’m only a small scale sanctuary space. Wishing everyone much better few months 🙏🏼💜

My PayPal for donations is https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/pigeonanddoverescue?country.x=IE&locale.x=en_US

Thank you 🐦

Happy Monday everyone 💜💫

We hope you are all well and are back in to the swing of ‘normal’ life after the Christmas period 🙏🏼

Due to it being winter and having a cold snap, the birds are eating a LOT more than usual, trying to keep up their energy levels and to keep warm.

We are going through their usual feed and on top of that, lots of peanuts and sunflower hearts and even suet for the wood pigeons and doves. 🥜

Our wild flock of pigeons has grown again over winter, as obviously they are more desperate than ever for food, so we are going through absolutely tones.
All in all around 350 mouths to feed and that’s not including the wild woodies (we have around 20) & sparrows, starlings, corvids, seagulls, black birds etc) 😅

We ran out completely of peanuts, sunflower hearts and woodie food, we have 2 bags of pigeon food left and 1 bag of wild bird food, which will last until mid week ish, so any help towards their food would be massively appreciated.

Thank you so much. 🐦

An early Happy New Year to all of our amazing, supportive followers. 🐦💫

A heartfelt THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for the on going support this year.
I am incredibly fortunate to have come across some of the kindest, most caring, generous people on my journey this year.⭐️

Thank you to everyone who comments, sends their love and kind words, those who have set up standing orders, donated to PayPal, bought off my Amazon wish list, given items for auction & played a part in the raffles. Also the generous charities and individuals who have made us lots of nests for the baby birds 🐦
We couldn’t have carried on without this support 💜
I would like to do a special shout to Gill, her partner and son for being so incredibly generous and kind throughout the year with donations and Clare Andrew’s who has sent us seed either weekly or monthly for the entire year. I can’t explain how much that has helped us 💜
I wish I could do individual shout outs for everyone, but I’d be here all day.
The love we have received is off the chart🥰

From the new year, we have had to make the decision to continue as just a sanctuary space for all the little guys - so going forwards, we can no longer take in any more birds.
I have always offered wilding up space for other rescues, taken in disabled birds from all over the place, taken in unwanted ex racers, but I cannot continue this due to space, time and funds.

I have no more space for any more birds, I have been trying to rehome some of the birds over the last 6 months, but everyone is also full.
So the situation is out of my hands 😓
I make a record of every bird I take in and in 2024, (bearing in mind pretty much closed to new intakes in August), these are my numbers:

🐦4 Blind / house birds: 1 went to forever home, 3 still living with me.
🐦10 racers: unwanted by owners, with me for life.
🐦12 disabled birds staying with me for life. Out of the disabled birds 5 had been shot.
🐦12 birds have homed to my aviary.
🐦48 birds have been released.
🐦 8 birds from another sanctuary came here
🐦18 ferals I raised & 8 baby woodies were taken for soft release at another sanctuary
🐦14 passed away
🐦4 birds put to sleep

Which is 138 birds this year.
Out of the 138, I have 45 birds who are with me permanently, as racers, disableds or who have homed to me, just from this year alone.
So I had to build another huge aviary in the summer to accommodate them.

If I carried on like I did this year, I could end up with another 45 next year and so on but I can’t keep building enclosures for the rest of my life 😅

So 2025 will be about the the current birds in my care, revamping their aviary’s (lots of work to do to them all) and making sure all of their needs are met 💜🐦

I will also continue to be on hand for everyone who needs support, has questions, I gave multiple training days at my house and at others houses at no cost this year, as we are are desperate for more pigeon rehabbers. I will be doing more of this next year as I will have more time (hopefully!!).

If anyone is interested in rehoming some pigeons, would like to learn about basic care for pigeons who just need cage rest, or would like to learn more about the rehabbing side of things, then please reach out 🙏🏼

Let 2025 be a positive year for our beautiful featehred friends 🐦💜

(Photo is 2 babies rescued from a livery yard where pest control were due - babies are called the Sprinkles and now have paired up in the aviary)🥰

🎄✨ MERRY CHRISTMAS ✨🎄

To all of our wonderful supporters and followers, we wish you all a lovely day, how ever you are spending it.

We are having a very quiet Christmas, with just the birds and animals & making sure they all get some lovely treats and love.

Lots of love from all of us 💜💫

6 days ago I was brought a little feral with severe leg wounds, which I had posted about.
He’d either been catted or caught by a dog, all his thighs had been skinned and multi puncture wounds all over him.
He’s been on antibiotics since, having his wounds treated with topical ointment and manuka honey and a couple of days ago he decided he was able to eat for himself 💜

With babies I always by a ‘dove’ food, which is smaller pieces which are easier for them to pick up and swallow.

Little man is still on a heat pad, so not providing perches just yet as he’s incredibly skinny still and stuggling to keep warm, but he does have a little teddy he likes to snuggle up to.

He’s doing really well, but unfortunately, none of his neighbours are happy as he SQUEAKS ALL DAY. He never stops 🤦🏼‍♀️😂 when he’s lying down, when he’s walking around, when he’s eating, when he’s drinking, when I clean him out, when I give him his meds, he just does not ever stay quiet.

But that’s a good thing right? Shows he’s happy and a fighter 🙏🏼💜

This gorgeous girl was found 3 months ago in my garden completely grounded.
She had 2 broken legs.
After strapping and cage rest she moved to my aviary to build up strength again and she made a perfect recovery.
2 weeks ago was reintroduced back to the wild flock.
She has the choice whether to come back to the aviary to sleep, but she chooses to stay with her wild flock family 💜
I say wild flock, they live on my roof from dawn until dusk and roost elsewhere at night, so they’re pretty much my flock 🤦🏼‍♀️

You have won the hamper 💜

Thank you so much for everyone who took part, every single penny helps more than you realise.
After a very hefty bill for repairs after the storm and the on going food, meds, bedding etc… this has been an incredible help towards it all.

Appreciate each and every one of you and for the on going support we have received through the year 🐦 ###

Although I am closed, I still end up with birds regardless… 3 this week so far 🤦🏼‍♀️
I don’t post about them all, as to be completely honest, I don’t want to advertise I’m still taking emergency birds.. as I’m completely overwhelmed with the amount I have in.
I really really don’t ‘want’ to take any bird, but when they are local and in need, I can’t turn them down.

This little guy Percy was found on a pavement, clearly injured, to the point the finder could just pick him up.

Little man is only 4 ish weeks old, had sustained quite bad injuries, but not life threatening.
All the skin on his thighs of been ripped off and lots of puncture wounds.
but he’s doing really well.
He’s being crop fed baby bird formula, passing through perfectly, I’ll introduce him to seed soon 🙏🏼

If anyone sees a grounded birds, please pick them up. 10/10 times they will need help! X🐦

Thank goodness the strom is over 🙏🏼

It’s a worrying time for any rescue or sanctuary when you’ve got animals sitting outside in those conditions 😓

We are lucky we didn’t have any structural damage, but have broken roof panels and 3 tarpaulins have broken. 3 aviary’s got badly flooded, but everyone is alive and kicking 💜

The main free fly aviary moved 2ft off the concrete base meaning a part of the avairy was sitting on 6 inches of flood water during the night and all their sticks fell down so they were very sodden.
This happened before 5am when I got up, so I just kept an eye on them to make sure they were ok until it was light enough to start moving the avairy back and secure it down.

Over the course of the day we had 5 roof panels break too, so we had soggy pigeons all round.

Unfortunately nothing could be done about the roof of tarpaulins until today, as we were having 73mph gusts here yesterday .😩

We had to replace 3 tarpaulins at £29.99 each
And 5 roof panels at £32 each
Which has put us back £249.97 today.

We’d just bought 6 new tarps and roofing at the beginning of December too 😔

Please if anyone could give £1, we have over 1000 followers, even if only 200 people gave £1 it would nearly be paid off.

I can’t financially afford the running costs without the help. 😔
All these little birds have been brought to me for one reason or another, I do my best to keep them well fed, clean, safe, give them any treatments they need etc but 90% of the cost comes from my pocket. And it’s situations like this, that is out of my hands.. where I really need some extra help.

I have had a couple of really generous donations at the end of November which I was so grateful for and I was able to get food in bulk for the first time in months and months. Any donation no matter how small or big, helps more than you’d realise 🙏🏼

Please and thank you 💜🐦

Hi everyone🐦💫

I’m wondering if anyone would like to give me a little helping hand by purchasing an item off my Amazon wish list to get us through December 💜

My spends have gone up considerably over the last few weeks, mainly on winter proofing the avairys by buying more corrugated roofing to replace broken ones. Lots and lots of tarpaulins, some more wood / shelters for everyone to keep them warmer.

I’ve had an incredible amount of poorly birds in also, a few with canker, crop infections, coccidiosis, PMV, salmonella and the usual parasites, so a lot has been spent on medication.

My numbers are more than ever, although I’m desperately trying to get numbers down, they won’t stop growing. 🤦🏼‍♀️
Which means many more hungry mouths to feed, especially during winter time… they eat a LOT!!

I’ve got a few people who have set up monthly direct debits, from £2,£5,£10 a month, which is amazing as this is guaranteed funds for continual outgoing cost, if you’d be interested in this it can be done through pay pal or I can send my bank details 🙏🏼

I understand it’s coming up to Christmas so everyone’s got more spends than usual, but any help at all will be hugely appreciated as I am struggling to fund everything.

I have a lot of items on my Amazon wish list, everything is needed, but more than anything is the food and forumula. I go through around 7-8, 20kg bags weekly as I also have my wild flock of 200 to feed daily 🙈

I’d like to think of any items bought for them as a Christmas gift 🎁

Thank you so much to everyone’s on going support and care 🐦💜 we appreciate it so much xx

We can’t wait until spring so we can be released 💜☀️

I have a handful of juvenile woodies still to be released, the majority are ‘ready’ but with the inconsistent weather and having some extreme weather a couple of weeks ago with snow and hail and more due on the way over the next week or so, I feel it’s in their best interest to hang on until spring.

Not only the weather worries, but in winter woodies struggle for food. The majority of their diet consists of greens, roots, shoots, brassica crops, grasses, leaves & berries.
Brassica crops are spring crops and there isn’t much greenery for them to eat, they do enjoy indulging on ivy berries in the winter though!

On top of this, being released without having any adults show them feeding grounds whilst growing up and wilding up properly, their chances of survival will be a lot less.
Woodies are incredibly needy as babies and very reliant on parents, they will hang around parents for a few weeks after fledgling, to be shown the ropes of being an independent juvenile in the big wide world.

As rehabbers and rescues, we need to have each and every birds best interest at heart and do what’s right for them, after all, we have spent weeks, if not months, tending to them, all that hard work should pay off in the end 💜

I always release them from my garden regardless, so they know where to come for food when struggling or need a helping hand. But right now, they’ll have to wait a little longer until they have the best chance out there 🥰

3 months ago this teeny tiny was brought here, badly scalped and pr*****ed - 1-2 days old. 💔
She had cuts and wounds all over her, likely an attack from crows/magpies.
She was so delicate, usually when this small I would put straight with a foster parent who is broody, as they will do a much better job at raising them, but unfortunately I couldn’t due to the her injuries.
I hand raised her for the first 8-9 days until I knew she was completely stable and then I put her with one of my broody couples and they accepted her and continued to raise her.
After 2 weeks, for some reason they abandoned her 🤦🏼‍♀️ So I tried her with another broody couple and they took her straight in.
It’s very rare for pigeons to accept older babies, but these did at 3ish weeks old and raised her perfectly until she left the nest 💜

She’s got a piece of skin hanging over her eye from where the skin on her head was pulled off, so this will need to be removed soon by the vets, as it obscures her view.

Apart from that she’s a healthy, gorgeous girl 🥰

She does need to be named though… so throw some name suggestions my way 💜xx

Happy Sunday from my happy flock 💜
