RECALL - MY DOG’S FREEDOM STOPS WHERE IT IMPEDES ON OTHERS!
🧡 Proofing your recall around competing reinforcers (🥩🐶🐰🦘🏃🏼♂️🚴🏽)! This is what makes it a reliable recall.
🧠 Setting it up so that you can create the outcome you are after and taking it into the real world.
🤯 The amount of dogs we are encountering off-leash that have nothing remotely resembling a recall is insane.
🎤 The embarrassing scream from a distance “It’s ok he/she is friendly.” - a statement that people have no control over their dogs.
⚠️ Teaching a solid recall doesn’t need to be an endless amount of engagement sessions, or a dog only having eyes for you and ignoring the environment.
❗️The reason I teach recall is so that dogs can enjoy life, move freely and NOT harass others.

🧡 Fraser’s Recall
We tested Fraser’s recall on Monday. And you get to see him today - 3 days later.
We rarely got the chance to recall him. He tends to stick around a lot, stops when too far ahead or comes back on his own accord.
But the few reps we did made sense to him. They provided the clarity to him what COME means. Trainers tend to keep repeating the phrase “it takes 100’s of reps”. Don’t be fooled. When understanding how dogs learn and how to teach correctly - things happen a lot quicker.
He will be back for his Board & Train in a few weeks and we going to solidify his recall around competing motivators 🐰🐶🦜🦘.

❗️You can’t teach an old dog new skills! Or can you?
👀 This is a common statement that gets thrown around.
🧡 This is my sidekick Storm, he turned 9 this year.
💫 We used to do a lot together - heaps of fun stuff. He loves free-shaping and learning new things. He would run up a wall to grab a toy, do pull weight and fancy obedience.
🧠 We have moved away from the high body impact activities due to his back issue and towards more mental work.
🐽 Scent work is our thing now.
👆🏻 Today I started to teach him directionals. Go where I point towards.
💪🏻 He is smashing it.
👵🏼 Your dogs getting older doesn’t mean everything has to stop! Providing them with age appropriate activities and enjoy their golden years together.

Reactive Dog on Leash
🤯 Having a dog that is blowing up on leash, lunging and barking at dogs or people can be overwhelming.
🥺 It often creates a sense of helplessness and as a result of that, we start to avoid these situations. And our world becomes smaller and smaller over time.
💪🏻 It doesn’t have to be that way.
🤬 Pixie was aggressive on leash - barking and lunging at dogs.
✅ We addressed the issue and showed her a different way.
🌟 With the newfound way she is now able to make better choices.
🏖️ This opens up her world of adventures!
💫 Pixie and her owner can live their best life together.

🧡 EBONY has created some interesting hobbies for herself.
At our first session a few weeks ago I’ve seen her going back to this statue over and over again displaying this behaviour.
Today I wanted to get a “Before-video”. As you can hear I’m quite “disappointed” - how little she reacted today compared to last time.
This being said, after these two little videos - we went and shown her very quickly and clearer that this hobby of hers is no longer wanted.
🧡 You can see at the end of this video how beautifully she has taken it all on board.
🌟 Providing our dogs with clear communication, rules and boundaries allows them to thrive and us to enjoy life together!

A huge benefit of play is the ability to teach your dog to listen to you in high states of arousal.
🐾👣 THE WALK - SERIES PART 3
🏆 Leash handling skills
Mastering how to handle the leash allows you to move more naturally and freely, and you can focus on other things instead of consciously thinking about what to do with the leash.
🪥 When was the last time you consciously had to think through the process of brushing your teeth? See, you know what I mean 😉
There are a lot of different leads available - your average 6ft lead, a longline, and the “much hated” retractable lead.
🤷🏼♀️ Like always, people tend to hate what they don’t know or understand.
We use the retractable lead a lot. It allows for more clarity on the walk and provides dogs more freedom to move.
💡 It’s easily adjusted, locked in and turned into your average 6ft lead when needed.
🧠 BUT - being smart about where you use it will keep things safe. As with any tool, you can do a lot of good, and you can do a lot of nonsense with it. Be smart 😊

🐾👣 THE WALK - SERIES PART 2
✨ OFF-LEASH FREEDOM
Teaching a reliable recall gives your dog a chance to experience being free and able to move at its own pace and rhythm.
⛓ LOOSE LEASH WALK
Teaching your dog what to expect when on a leash will create the clarity to walk harmoniously together. And you can utilise your dog's understanding of it rather than relying on the leash to keep you connected.
🛑 STOP
A great way to catch up with your dog - instead of constantly recalling or nagging. As well as being able to go ahead - around a corner or up a hill - if you want to check things out before your dog does.
