It’s no secret that we shouldn’t be supporting puppy mills. Despite their best efforts, puppy mills are just that – mills. Profit comes before the welfare of the animals and often leads to the unnecessary and premature death of dogs. They’re inhumane and unethical, but they sometimes do a good job at hiding the truth behind their operation by selling to cute pet shops or using Facebook marketplace or Craigslist.
Also now, many pet rescue organizations are purchasing puppy mill breeding dogs for cheap at auctions and then adopting the dogs out as a profit.
That is where The Boaz Project comes in. The Administrator for The Boaz Project actually participated in a puppy mill second hand breeding auction, in which she placed an extremely high bid to make sure she truly rescued an older puppy mill dog ( whom she named Boaz). In doing so, she had to outbid other individuals whose main goal was to keep the dogs breeding for profit or to simply sell/adopt them out for a profit. The Boaz Project’s mission as a non-profit is to bid on auctioned puppy mill breeding dogs to rescue as many as they can, provide them rehabilitation, and place them in wonderful loving homes without all the stringent vetting and pricing that most private rescue organizations put in place.
