Corgi4Christ
Corgi4Christ was started as a result of a short-term mission trip to Costa Rica by the Scherencel family in 2001.
We spent three weeks in a small town called Upalla, building a evangelism center. A combination school and church. At that time our excitement to help other countries to build churches for worship increased. We made my new friends, one was with the translator and his wife, Manuel and Elizabeth, from Costa Rica and we kept in contact with them. Even meeting them again four years later in Peru to build a church there.
A year after that Manuel called us at home and said that he knew of a congregation in Costa Rica that had just started and they needed land to build a place of worship. Manuel asked “was there any way we could help them financially”?
Well we had been breeding Welsh Corgi puppies already, so we agreed to donate the next litter to the project. Darla & Spanky, our Corgis, had a litter of eight puppies and after selling them we were able to send them the money. Using the money from the next few litter from Darla’s puppies to help pay our expenses. Even meeting Manuel again in Ecuador and Chile.
One Sunday morning in 2008 Don received another call from Manuel. He started the conversation by say “Brother Don, it is time to build the Puppy Church.” That is what the land they bought was called. We were able to put together a team, raise the money, and replace their 2 x 4, covered with plastic structure, with a block building, with a metal roof and a tile floor.
Our Darla & Spanky have passed away and we have started with a new girl named Princess Aleha (Ally) and our male is Prince Joseph (Joey). Again we have partnered with God to donate at least 50% of the money we get from selling our puppies to mission projects.
Our first litter of puppies was born on October 1st, 2020, and 1/2 the money of this litter will be going to help our Pastor’s in the seminary in Venezuela.
