Announcing the latest additions to the Poplar Pawz family! If you want to read the entire story of how they got here, I have added it below. It was a crazy delivery! In the meantime, we need help coming up with a litter theme. We have two ideas. One is Yin and Yang as we have one male and one female and one is dark and one is light. The other idea is Nemo and Dory as the female was literally found swimming in Journey's abdomen when we had to take her in on emergency. So we are putting it to a vote! What does everyone like? Please let me know it the comments.
Here is the long version of how they got here. LOL!
Journey started her labor at 9 pm. She had the shivers and was dilating. My females are horrifically spoiled in that while they are delivering, I am right by their side. I’m rubbing tummies and back muscles, anything to make them comfortable.
At 3:00 am, Journey began having contractions. At 6:50, she finally had the most beautifully marked male puppy! He is exquisite! We worked together and got him cleaned up and nursing. At 7:15 am, she began contractions again. Not gonna lie, I thought, ‘Oh good! Bam Bam , all done and I’m going to bed.’
At 7:30 am, she stopped. She stood up, shook herself off and went outside to potty. She came back inside and laid down with her puppy, let him nurse and she went to sleep. I was like, ‘What?’
At 8:30 am, I called my vet. She wasn’t able to see Journey until afternoon and I wasn’t comfortable with that. So I called our backup vet who is 40 min away.
They said to relax and let her sleep. Give it a few hours. An hour later, I just wasn’t comfortable. I just had this bad feeling. So I called again and they said to come in.
They did an X-Ray and confirmed there was a 2nd puppy. We had done pre-labor x-rays so I knew there was a second puppy. The tech wanted to do an ultrasound to determine life. I asked if that changed the course of treatment. She said it did not. So I asked why not just put her on the surgery table and get the puppy out and save time. The vet agreed!
Within 5 min, she was under and prepped. The vet called me and said that Journey stopped contractions because she had pushed the puppy through the uterus into the abdominal cavity. Had I waited 15 min longer, puppy would have for sure perished and Mom’s life would have been on the line as she was going into shock.
I said, do whatever is in Mom’s best interest. The vet said she could fix the rupture and I would be able to breed Journey again. I asked what the odds were of this happening again. She said it was very possible it could happen again. To me, that’s not worth it. I said, ‘Spay her. Her life comes first.’
So Journey is now spayed. Am I disappointed. No, I love Journey, she’s my pet and often best friend first! And yes because we had big plans for future litters but it’s about what’s best for Journey! So, no regrets.
Now. We need to do a litter theme. One of my daughters wants to call them Yin and Yang because we have one male and one female. The male is dark in color and the female is light. So Yin and Yang works!
But….my other kiddo said, ‘So the female was basically swimming around inside Journey?’ I said yes. She said, 'We have to call them Nemo and Dory! Like just keep swimming, just keep swimming…"
So! God bless you if you have read ALL of this! Now it’s your turn. Are these puppies Yin and Yang or Nemo and Dorry? Yes everyone is ok!!!! And that’s what matters. I just refuse to call the puppies by number or color….Thanks everyone!
