Happy International Wolf Day!!!! Today is a day to celebrate one of the greatest animals of all time. Wolves are incredible animals belonging to the family canidae (dog family). These large carnivores are essential to the health and prosperity of many of the worlds ecosystems. Wolves are a keystone species that help keep prey animal populations like deer and elk in check. Without wolves, these animals would overpopulate and degrade vegetation leading to ecological collapse. Today is a day to recognize the importance of wolves and why they are essential. 🐺

Happy World Elephant Day! Elephants are amazing animals that are both keystone species and intelligent beings. Sadly, elephants are facing immense pressures from humans including habitat fragmentation and poaching. Thankfully there are many people and organizations like WWF and International Elephant foundation working hard to protect these unique giants. Believe it or not, by going to your local accredited zoo with elephants, your admission costs goes directly to the care of the elephants at the zoo and elephant conservation. Also by visiting an an accredited zoo, you get the opportunity to observe these incredible animals up close and learn all about them!!! 🐘

Hello everybody! So I have a big announcement. For the last 2 weeks or so I’ve had sometime to do some thinking about my goals in life. As you all know I love all animals, but of course I have my favorites deer, wolves, and zebras. These are the species I am most passionate and knowledgeable about. I feel like I always have something I want to teach you guys about these species, whether it’s how white-tailed deer have some of the fastest growing tissue in the animal kingdom, why gray wolves are essential to the health of ecosystems, or even why zebras have stripes???? So, John’s Animal World is going to undergo some changes. Instead of focusing on all different species, I will be devoting this account and my YouTube channel to my favorite animals. I know I can’t save all species, so I feel that with my knowledge and passion for the species I love most, that’s where I am going to make a difference. I want to devote my time and energy doing what I can to educate and protect these animals. So I will be making a new Instagram account soon for a new start. I feel like I’ve had a lot of pressure in my life so I need a fresh start. If you would like to continue following me, the name of this account will still be John’s Animal World with the same logo. I hope people will continue to enjoy my content as I have some pretty amazing posts and projects planned in regards to white-tailed deer, gray wolves, and of course Grant’s zebras. So stay tuned for when I create the new page. Thank you for those who have supported me all along. I can’t wait for this next chapter! 🦌 🐺 🦓

Hey everyone! Hope you’ve been enjoying my posts and videos on this account. I am currently dealing with some stuff in my personal life. So I’ve decided I will be taking a break from social media to take better care of myself at this time. In the meantime, please keep yourself informed about all things wildlife. We must keep fighting to save the incredible animals we share this planet with.

It’s that time of year again! Happy National Zookeeper week!!! Zookeepers are some of the most incredible people out there. These people dedicate their lives to provide the best care possible for the animals they love. By doing this, they are ensuring there are healthy populations of many different species to help prevent them from inching closer to extinction.

Sharks maybe scary to some people, but an ocean without sharks is even scarier!!! Sharks are essential for the health of ocean ecosystems keeping fish and marine mammal populations in balance. Without sharks, prey populations would over populate and run out of food ultimately meeting their own extinctions. This would also harm global fisheries as there would be less fish to catch for fisherman which means less seafood for us to eat. Sharks help to ensure that all these animals continue to thrive as all species in the ocean ecosystem are interconnected. So please, instead of falling for media traps and false information, educate yourself about sharks. You might just turn that fear into fascination.

Some sharks prefer to wait at the bottom of the sea floor to hunt their prey. Wobbegong sharks are perfectly adapted to life on the ocean floor by blending into their environment. From above, these sharks look like part of the ocean floor waiting to pounce on unsuspecting prey.

Sharks are vital for the health of the world's oceans. Many species are top predators that help regulate fish and marine mammal populations from getting over populated. Also, many shark species are food for a variety of marine predators including other sharks!!! Thank you for the awesome photo of these sharks from SeaWorld Orlando!

One of my favorite weeks is almost here!!! Shark Week starts tomorrow and I can't wait! Not a fan of all the celebrity stuff though. Shark Week should only be focused on the sharks and shark conservation to educate people to protect these vital predators.

The owner of the foot from the last post is none other than the common ostrich. Ostriches are the largest extant bird only found across sub-saharan Africa. The ostrich has some bizzare looking feet as it only has two toes on each foot. This bizzare adaptation allows ostriches to run really fast to avoid predation. If they can't get away, an ostrich will kick its attacker. An ostrich kick is nothing you want to mess with as it is powerful enough to kill a lion.

Can anyone guess which animal has feet like this?

Hey guys! I wanted to update you all on my current project. I've been able to get some awesome footage of seagulls and I can't wait to show you! Sadly, life has been a bit hectic and the weather has been uncooperative. I am hoping the weather will get better soon so I can continue filming seagulls for you guys. So far I've been filming at some beaches in the South Shore of Massachusetts, but plan on doing some more filming in Cape Cod! Thank you all for your continual support and Shore of the Seagull comes to the channel later this month.

So guys I had another incredible white-tailed deer encounter this morning!!! I went out early to my favorite deer spot. As we are currently in a heat wave, I wasn't sure if I had a chance of seeing anything. About 20 minutes in, I heard rustling from the woods. Suddenly, a fawn comes booking it out of the woods running towards ME!!! The fawn ran 2-3 feet passed me and ran to the woods on the otherside. Then I look back to where the fawn came from, and a eastern coyote comes out of the woods!!! The coyote saw me and ran back into the woods. I was speechless because I couldn't believe I just saw another predation event so close to me. I just feel so fortunate to have witnessed an amazing natural event so close! Animals are just amazing!!! By the way, the photo on this post is not of the fawn I saw.

Like my Russian tortoise Chester, Butch the yellow-footed tortoise also does not enjoy baths. Yellow-footed tortoises are a tropical tortoise species found across much of South America. These tortoises get their name from the yellow spots on their front legs.

This was one of the most incredible wildlife experiences I've ever had! A few summers ago, I witnessed seeing my first and only piebald white-tailed deer in the WILD!!! Piebald deer are white-tailed deer with fur coats that have blotches of white and brown. Out of the whole North American white-tailed deer population, about less than two percent are piebald. Truly an experience I'll never forget!

Happy World Camel Day!!! Camels are a true icon of desert ecosystems and zoos. Many people often ask if camels have one or two humps. As a matter of fact they have both! There are two species of camels, dromedary and bactrian camels. Dromedary are smaller and have one hump, while bactrians are larger and have two humps. If you love camels, please visit your local zoo! Your visit helps pay for the care of the camels and conservation in the wild!

Happy World Giraffe day!!! Many people do not know that these animals are very endangered. There are more elephants than giraffes across Africa. This is why zoos are vital to save wildlife such as giraffes. So please, if you love these animals, go support your local zoo by visiting. Your money goes into their care and conservation to save these charasmatic animals.
