https://naturesmicrogreens.com/shop/p/sunflower-shoots

Here are some facts about sunflower shoots:

1. Sunflower Sprouts contain approximately 25% protein and are a rich source of vitamins A, B complex, and E and minerals including calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus and zinc.
2. Sunflower Shoots also contain, healthy fats, essential fatty acids, fibre, and phytosterols. Numerous clinical trials have demonstrated that daily consumption of foods enriched with at least 0.8 g of plant sterols or stanols lowers serum LDL cholesterol.
3. Both sunflower seeds and their shoots contain high amounts of vitamin E. Vitamin E works synergistically with vitamin C and selenium to reduce blood pressure, increase the elasticity of arteries and prevent heart disease.
4. The sunflower shoot is a natural expectorant for chest congestion: In Ayurvedic medicine, these sprouts are thought to have the ability to encourage clearance of the lungs. Natural expectorants may also be used as a preventative measure against lower respiratory infections to deter the invasion of pathogens.

What is plant albinism?
Interestingly, lesser known albinism in plants is also a genetic mutation that may happen in the home garden. When direct sown, plants with albinism may go unnoticed. However, growers who start their seeds indoors in cell trays may be left questioning why their seedlings are demonstrating this unique trait.
Plants with albinism occur when they do not produce chlorophyll due to genetic mutation. Emergent albino plant seedlings will have a distinct white color. True plants with albinism will demonstrate no hint of green pigment at all. These plants can be either fully albino or demonstrate partial traits, creating variegated plant foliage.

Will Plants Without Pigment Grow? Chlorophyll is vital to healthy and continued plant growth. The process of photosynthesis requires chlorophyll as a means for the plant to produce its own food. While albino plant seedlings do emerge and may seem to grow, this early plant energy is the result of that which has been stored in the seed.
Plants having no chlorophyll are unable to absorb and produce energy for growth from sunlight. This inability to complete photosynthesis will eventually cause the albino seedling to wither and die once its energy stores have been exhausted. Plants that demonstrate only partial albinism are able to grow to larger sizes, but may remain small or stunted due to diminished amounts of chlorophyll within the plant.

Our recent addition to our menu is Broccoli. Broccoli microgreens have very soft texture. They have fresh, mild broccoli or cabbage flavor. They are rich in Vitamins A and C, Calcium, Iron, and phosphorus. Eating raw broccoli may not be the easiest way to get the needed nutrients so Microgreens are a great substitute to get even more nutrients than from the grown broccoli itself. That’s just a few examples.

What is included? Greenbox is 1 pound (16oz) mix of microgreens that will have 2 of our top sellers (green pea, radish, sunflower) and a third mix that will change every week (until we run out of varieties 🙂 ) By that time, you will have your favorite types of microgreens and we can tailor the right mix for you.
