Way to go!!! A Star Student from Tuesday night's first Clicks & Tricks class taking home what she learned with one dog to teach both dogs at home. Working with the black dog who is more treat motivated will help get the golden dog more interested in the fun :) Keep up the GREAT work!!!
Teaching your dog to "Touch" their nose to your hand is a useful skill that can be used for recall, to move your dog from one place to another (even in the presence of distractions) or for physical exercise, can replace a "Leave It" cue, and be used to teach new behaviors and tricks. It is a great first skill to teach any dog!

First Day of Spring Break Camp!!! Kids each made feeder toys out of everyday household items (old socks, empty tissue boxes, TP tubes, old take-out paper bags, etc) so Kea could have her breakfast. She was very thankful! 🐶💕
We did SO much more! Find out what by checking out the Posts.
Looking forward to tomorrow.😁 Play, Learn, Grow
At today's puppy social we worked on attention, how to willingly drop something from their mouth and recall games. Looking forward to the next session as we build the skills of both dogs and humans.😁

After short breaks to calm the puppies down, we can allow play to resume so long as the dogs still want to.😁
After on leash class time at today's puppy social to try out different surfaces to walk on (preparing for odd things like storm drains and shiny floors), these two pups took a little time to get to know each other before they felt comfortable romping together. There was a third puppy but that proved too stressful for the fluffy brown and white pup, so everyone got to play in sets of two, which was a much better fit for today's group.
Such a beautiful day to March back into Puppy Socials @brightenuppup. After a nice social skills lesson on leash, the puppies had a chance to play if they wanted to. Play only lasts a couple minutes before we call them away from each other. Because these young, inexperienced pups do not yet have good name recognition or an attention cue, we use treats to noses and then lead them away before their arousal escalates beyond a manageable level. Looking forward to each Friday at noon!!!

How to know when dogs play well together?
Look for M.A.R.S.
Meta-signals: Since many behaviors dogs use in play resemble those they use in predation and offensive and defensive aggression, they use meta-signals to tell another dog that they mean no harm and would like to play. Some examples of meta-signals are play bows, bouncy movements, loose bodies.
Activity shifts: Dogs will incorporate brief pauses in play so they can check in with each other to see if they are both still having fun. It can be a reset button and help keep the dogs from getting overly aroused, which can lead to reactivity. It can also signal the end of play, such as a shake off or ground sniffing.
Role reversal: Dogs with good play skills will take turns doing the behaviors they find fun, such as the chaser becomes the chased or when wrestling one may lie on their back, then the other.
Self-handicapping: Dogs may inhibit the intensity of their play to adjust to the physical or emotional needs of the other dog, such as when an adult or larger dog lays down to play with a puppy or small dog.
Do you see M.A.R.S. in this video? Which ones?
Kids learning about enrichment and making their own DIY dog feeder toys using household items like TP and paper towel tubes, packing paper and tissue boxes at Brighten Up Pup's Dog Savvy Kids Day Off Camp- Nov 2023.
This is an example of teaching your puppy how to play and providing them an appropriate outlet for their normal canine behaviors, such as eyeing, stalking, chasing, mouthing, biting, chewing and dissecting. Thanks @amyspuppypreschool

Parkour "Over". A week before K wouldn't do this at a Parkour in the Park event. After a little training in the backyard with me, she is now jumping over this swing on cue.
Thanks @baddoggooddogtrainer for your fun and totally useful parkour classes. Parkour is a great team activity for any dog of any age and their care giver. It is a great way to have fun together indoors and out. It increases your dog's focus on you during walks and enhances your communication and training skills. Parkour in the Park events are also great. They help us practice our new skills in new areas and to try new things, all while socializing around new dogs and people. I highly recommend dog parkour to all my clients!

Lure toys and flirt poles, such as the Outward Hound Tail Teaser & Squishy Face Studio Flirt Pole, are great fun for pups of any age and humans alike. They tap into a dog's natural instinct to chase and catch prey. This is an especially great toy for young puppies and a great way to keep young kids safe from dogs' mouths.
DIY:
1. take a piece of rope or old leash and tie one end to a sturdy stick or old broom handle
2. tie the second end to a toy
3. bring the toy to life by dragging it around
Pro TIp #1: If the dog doesn't let go of the toy, drop the flirt pole, then go play with another dog toy.
When the dog drops the flirt pole toy from their mouth say "Yes", enthusiastically praise them and engage in play with the second toy.
Toss the second toy so your dog chases it then switch back to the flirt pole.
Repeat and have FUN!
Pro Tip #2: Teach your dog to "DROP" something from their mouth on cue. To find out how, email [email protected].
