For those who don’t know how it’s done…your name will be added to the wheel (example below in another post) as many times as the entries you buy. The wheel is spun and the program randomly and automatically picks the winners.

Apparently Kiwi says it’s time for another raffle! She wants to protect the rescues that are in flight cages being scared by predator birds! It’s a good thing she can’t see them clinging to the cages outside! She’s right by that window! The proceeds will be put towards the shed.

I do this as a way to have fun, interact and hopefully give back to at least one of you!!! This time there will be three prizes!!! I know y’all are out there somewhere. We are still only at 170.00 for these 4 macaws coming in on MONDAY! I’m a bit surprised.

Is it because they look healthy so so you don’t think they need to be vetted? 1. Birds hide illnesses as we all know. 2. Being outside I think it’s even more important to vet them due to all of the illnesses wild birds transfer. Including the avian flu. 3. All birds should be vetted at least once a year.

Is it because you think other people will donate? Except for the 5 people out of my 20k followers on 4 pages they aren’t. If you all would donate even 1.00 we would have their vetting covered and then some.

Is it because they don’t look tame? They aren’t. But does that mean they deserve less?

Is it because of the holidays and they are following a few big fundraisers? Unfortunately, it’s not what I had planned either but it’s not their fault as far as when they are losing their home. AND in the past few fundraisers less than 20 people donated to both of them. I have over 13k followers! Even 1.00 from a good majority of you would make a huge difference.

As always…the clinic’s information is always included and listed first as a way to donate.

These birds didn’t ask to lose their homes especially around the holidays and do you really want my to bring them in with the other rescues and potentially spread any diseases to them? Really?

I know everyone is having fun with the AI posts but these are not AI birds. They are real birds that need your help!

So again…I’m pleading with you to help these babies. And I’m not asking for a huge amount from anyone…even 1.00! Please. Heck very few of you have even shared for these babies! I’m not sure what they’ve done to be ignored by 20k people but it’s very sad to me. Believe me I don’t take joy in begging…I hate it…but I’m committed to helping them. I hope you are too.

Emergency fundraiser!

This is one of the birds that the realtor took in from the hoarder. As you can see…there is something wrong with her eye and she has a large growth above her vent area. She got these babies out of the horrible conditions they were living in and did not expect huge medical bills. She did take her to one vet that dremmeled her nails, complained about not getting paid enough…said nothing was wrong with her and sent her on her way!!!! No labs…no X-rays on the growth…forget about looking at the eye…didn’t happen!!!! So I’m doing this fundraiser and sending her to Rainforest Clinic…Dr. Clubb is in India but the other vet, Jenna will see her. Please donate what you can!!!! These babies…especially this one…has had enough and needs help!!!

It seems we have completely stalled in our efforts towards a permanent structure. If you can’t donate that’s totally understandable but shares are always appreciated too!!! Thanks everyone!!

I think I’ve found where we will be getting our permanent structure for the birds. The Home Depot sheds come with everything needed to build them including the foundation! A supporter sent me the link to this one which would be wonderful but they do have smaller ones too. This shed will
allow for insulation as well as air conditioning. Due to my reception here I could not get a shipping cost so I had to guesstimate.

There are some things I need before I move down in order to keep the birds safe. I have an Amazon wishlist and I’m hoping I can ask you guys to help. It may look like I’m a diva with a few things but I’m really not. The filter systems for the water is to make it safe for the birds and dogs. As you’ve seen…it’s well water. The cell phone booster is because there is no service there and unfortunately bird theft is running rampant down there so being able to call 911 in an emergency would be great!!! The hose is to hook up the water to the RV and the extension cord…the electric to the RV. Everything else is pretty much bird related except for the dog run. Sheldon (my Great Dane puppy) will have full run of the acre except for weekends when we are open to the public. I can’t imagine anyone wants a 150 pound puppy running at and jumping on you! And he will be in the RV when I am. It’s far to hot in Florida to leave any dog outside full time.

My heart is beating fast knowing this is finally happening! The list is set so that once something is purchased, it is deleted from the list.

Once down there I will be ordering sheds. They are too heavy for me to move myself. So temporarily the big birds will be in tents with floors so the cage weight will help to keep them in place and the littles that I currently have are not tame so they will be placed in aviaries and live their lives out as birds…flying!

I feel like I’m forgetting to tell you so many things! Ugh!!! Thank you again for always being there!!! You are my army of angels for these babies!

I wish everyone knew how much I really hate begging…but I do it for the birds. I have to. I made a commitment to them. One of our supporters has offered to match all donations received through 5/15/23 up to $5,000.00! Please share and give! Donations will be put into our medical emergency account! We are using this forum as a way to track the amount received! Many large organizations use this platform. Let us know what you think and rather it was easy to use or not. They don’t hold on to the funds for a month.

Update. Facebook seems to have fixed the issue we were having so this challenge has been added to Facebook too..but will only be allowed on these platforms because they give a running total. Donor Box allows for multiple ways to donate but if you are more comfortable with Facebook that has been added too.

Please…I really need your help. Donations have all but stopped. We never raised enough for the last vet appointment and we still need at least one more shed for the birds before we can move. Please. If we can’t get what is needed to protect the birds and keep them safe, we won’t be able to expand and will have to start turning away rescues. If we don’t have what is needed medically I will have to start turning away rescues.

Please…every donation counts! Whether it’s 5.00 or 500.00…it all helps. I know it’s a hard and scary time for all…but I can’t do this alone. Most of my disability checks go towards the birds…feeding them…supplying them with toys, etc. I really need you guys.

I think there are times everyone just assumes others will donate…but it doesn’t happen unfortunately. So please…maybe skip a coffee or soda or two…???

Let me introduce myself, my name is Sarah Edwards and I am the founder of Rickie’s Parrot Rescue and Sanctuary, Inc. (“RPR”), a 501(c)3 charitable organization (FED EIN 82-1640814…all donations are tax deductible) founded in 2017, located, in the State of Florida. RPR takes in parrots and birds that many other rescues turn away. We specialize in the special needs, sick, neglected and abused. RPR welcomes these babies knowing that they come with large medical bills as well as physical and emotional damage. RPR provides medical care and works to gain the trust of these babies so that they can be placed into good, loving homes. We work hard to ensure that the perfect home is found for each one. Those that are deemed not adoptable, remain with us for the rest of their lives. Our services are being needed more and more and we have outgrown our current space.

Unfortunately when hurricane Ian came through, a ceiling collapsed in one of our rooms. Destroying cages, brooders and medical supplies that we were forced to replace. So our funds were depleted.

RPR will be moving to an area in Redland, FL that will allow us to expand and provide the birds with a more natural, healthy environment. We will be building aviaries as well as outbuildings for medical and new intakes.

I am asking for your help.

This move will give the rescues a much better life and will allow us to continue to save lives. It will open the rescue up to the public…it will allow for events, etc!!! But more importantly the rescues lives will be so much better!!!! It will also allow us to keep saving the medically needy, handicapable and abused birds. I was able to find a sponsor for the fencing, electric and well but we still need at LEAST one more shed or tiny house, car port, fencing (for cages), septic (estimated at 5000.00) and a used RV! Or someone willing to owner finance or rent to own an RV. We need you…these babies need you!!! Please please please…give and share!!! It’s not me saving lives…it’s you!!!

The nitty gritty

It Takes a Flock is a program originated and facilitated by Rickie’s Parrot Rescue and Sanctuary (“RPR”) RPR gives children the chance to own a pet (bird) that they may not be able to own otherwise. The minimum age of each child must be ten years. The child must be of an age capable of taking care of their new companion. RPR, with the help of it’s supporters, will supply each child a starter cage, food and toys for their new companion upon pick up. Food and toys will be replenished once a month for each child. If for some reason more is needed prior to the replenishment period, parent or child will contact RPR and every effort will be made to assist the child and their new companion. RPR will continue replenishment for one year from date of adoption. If more time is needed, parents may request an extension and show need for that extension. Each extension request will be evaluated on a case to case basis.

This program was designed to give children a chance to own a pet that they may otherwise not be able to afford. They are given the chance to learn responsibility while experiencing the love of their new companion.

If for some reason placement does not work out, said pet must be returned to RPR.

We are currently working with children in the Homestead/Miami-Dade area with the hope of expansion.
