Whilst it’s quiet in the rescue my mind turns to restocking the shelves ready for baby season 🦔

Replenishing food stocks, ordering medication & replacing & buying new equipment are all terribly expensive 😬

So I am declaring today “Two Pound Tuesday” and asking my lovely followers to help me by donating just £2 each 😊

I am organising a fun Disco to raise much needed funds for the rescue 🦔 🪩
It will take place on Saturday 5th April
In Geddington Village Hall
At 7.30pm

Casey is my first arrival of 2025 🦔 He was spotted snuffling around in a garden at lunchtime & luckily his finders realised immediately that he needed rescuing 🙂
Casey was cold, covered in fleas and had a very bubbly nose 🦔 He has started treatment and hopefully he’ll soon be running free again 🦔
I am running low on kitten biscuits, kitchen roll & wipes 😬

Spike, Bean, Maple, Alice & Sprinkle were the contents of just one of the disturbed nests that came to me last year 🦔
They weighed between 134g - 148g each on arrival, they all survived & they all headed back (individually) into the wild during September 😊

I’ve been looking at the number of hedgehogs that have come through the door of my rescue this year 🦔
Over 250 hedgehogs have been rescued, which is quite a few more than the 170 from last year 😬
Of that 250 🦔 144 have been returned to the wild, 81 sadly died in the rescue & 12 were PTS by the vet due to having injuries or issues that were incompatible with them ever being able to survive in the wild 😢
14 hedgehogs are either still in the rescue or are dotted around the county with some of my fabulous foster carers 💙 I expect all these hogs to survive & to be back in the wild within the next few weeks 😀
Every single loss is terribly sad & more than once this year I have felt totally defeated when it just seemed to be one hedgehog after another losing their short battle within the rescue ☹️
I am however proud of my success rate of around 63% 🦔

I must give a huge shout out to my fantastic team - my fabulous volunteers, my brilliant fosterers, my super taxi drivers & Val, my wonderful mentor 🥰 I couldn’t have done this without you all 😊
Thank you to every single person that rescued a hedgehog this year 🦔

Every morning each hedgehog spends a few minutes in their own private shoe box whilst housekeeping tend to their room🦔
Their bed is fluffed up & extra bedding is provided, the bathroom is blitzed & food & drinks are replenished 🦔
On returning to their room a brief inspection of the breakfast buffet is carried out before they snuffle back to bed 🦔
Tilly (in the photo) is always a little bit impatient & likes to check the job is being done to her liking 🤣

After declaring myself closed last week - along came Twinkle & Star 🦔🦔
Bizarrely both hogs were found by two of my fabulous fosterers on the very same day 😬 Twinkle was spotted in the feeding station at lunchtime in Claires garden & Star at Gemma’s dad’s house during the afternoon 😬
Luckily both Claire & Gemma knew immediately that they needed rescuing 🦔
Fingers crossed these two are soon fighting fit & heading back to the wild 🦔
