And then there were four!

It's the strangest thing; all the girls have found homes straight away (along with one boy). The remaining kits are all boys - and what gorgeous, funny, mischievous boys they are!

The two white ones are 11 weeks old, and the smoke and sooty fawn are 9 weeks old. Happy to answer questions on the wool quality and character of each little bunny to help match them to their perfect home.

Cuuute! I got this awesome table for my birthday, handbuilt by my brother from pallet wood and with our Elegant Sufficiency logo engraved on top!

No doubt it'll be featuring in lots of future posts to display bunnies, rainbow eggs, fresh garden veg, and goodness know what else. The bunnies certainly seem to like it!

These two 8-week old does have come into the house for a groom and a play. They'll be going to a new home together where they are destined to produce gorgeous quality wool for spinning and crafting. 🥰

Oh, I love salad season! These soft boiled eggs were cooled in an ice bath before adding to my summer garden salad. They're still oozy and delicious but perfect enjoyed cold.

You may be wondering about the absolute explosion of seeds on the plate. Since reading and listening up on the benefits of a varied, plant-heavy diet from the likes of .spector and the project, I've been adding a healthy mix of seeds to just about everything. It feels like a quick win! 🙌

We've got a good number of eggs on the honesty stall today. The chickens have been enjoying freeranging around the front garden, foraging in the hedgerow, and pinching a healthy portion of perennial kale from the border. All in all, happy hens make for tasty eggs. 🐓🥚🥰

Just for fun, and for our own curiosity, we put 6 eggs from our new hen, Daphne, into the incubator. Daphne was missing a few saddle feathers, so we suspected her eggs might be fertile. Chickens can remain fertile for a good couple of weeks after being with a cockerell.

Lo and behold! We've had a 100% success rate with 6 healthy chicks hatched over the weekend. We're looking forward to watching these little ones grow.

What beautiful weather for the weekend! And a gorgeous evening to watch baby bunnies binkying about. 🥰

15/06/2024

It's so lovely to see the new chickens enjoying the morning sun out in the garden. They're now freeranging with the main flock and it won't be long before they're fully integrated.

We've got a good number of eggs on the honesty stall today. If you pop by to collect a couple of boxes, do say hello to the chickens!

This is our best year yet for strawberries! Previously, we'd grown them in pots, but this year, we decided to dedicate a whole raised bed to them.

Felicity has declared that she never actually really liked shop-bought strawberries and has always sprt of tolerated them but can't get enough of the garden ones.

New photos of the baby bunnies are incoming! This morning I gave them all a thorough groom and took new photos and videos. They change so much week by week at this age because their long angora fur is starting to grow in.

Stocked up for Sunday brunch. 😍

It's fantastic to see the egg stall well stocked again. It just goes to show that the answer to all the world's troubles is to buy more chickens.

We're having a lot of fun with our 4 week old kits. I feel like we learn something more about colour genetics with every litter.

We have a smoke vm with gorgeous bright blue marbled eyes, a healthy sized sooty fawn and two red eyed whites.

I'd never seen a red eyed white in person before and didn't realise how pretty their eyes are up close. They're not solid red at all (silly me) but have a beautiful subtle pale blue, violet hue. Really cool!

I think the sooty fawn and the larger of the two REWs would make lovely fibre bunnies. So chunky and soft! 😍

Introducing Penelope Featherington! She's a Rhode Island Red and lays a large, brown egg.

Many of our hens are slowing down now, and we couldn't keep up with the honesty stall, so we've brought four new hens into the flock.

We haven't named them all yet, but as we do, we'll make introductions.

How cool is this? The blue in this little bunnies eyes are caused by the vienna gene.

A huge thank you to everyone who came and bought eggs from our little honesty stall in our first week of this year's laying season.

Our children are learning so much about how to run a hobby business from our urban homestead. This year, we've all agreed that the chicken egg money will be split between Felicity and Seraphina as pocket money for their summer holiday. They'll be counting it up and dividing it out (and daydreaming about ice cream on the Devon coast).

We love that the honesty stall and rabbitry are inspiring an entrepreneurial spirit and demonstrating that a lot of joy and a little pocket money can come from having a hobby business. We hope it'll serve them well!

We've done it! We've got our parish council holding (PCH) number, built a new shed, hired a cattle trailer, saved up aaaall of our rabbitry pennies, and finally, this little guy is coming home with us!

Who said you can't have a Highland Cow in a back garden? Urban homesteads can do anything a farm can do. You just have to pull together! That's why our neighbours have all kindly agreed to take out all the boundary fences from their back gardens so this beautiful beast will have enough pasture.

Sometimes life happens, and you forget to share it. Here's Mr Thornbury working from home with me earlier this week. Don't disturb him; he's got a lot to untangle, and he's feeling stacked! 😂
